I've had one of these in my kitchen for about 9 months now, I really like it - our main (ceramic) hob is a bit rubbish and I'd been keen to get a induction burner. The app temp control is pretty accurate, but does have a weird gap between 80c and 110c - so holding something at 90c for a time (eg heat treating milk for making yoghurt) just has to be done manually adjusting the power, not a big deal really. Temp resolution is in 5c gradients which is alright for the price I guess. The app isn't that great, wish you could manually do the temp mode on the dial control. For something like using it for sous vide, getting a notification when the timer is up is sorta handy. Otherwise it's a solid, really thin induction burner and the price is pretty good too.
Ok, I work on the road out of my personal vehicle and a lot of people do. We are the tiny tiny niche that would benefit from a steaming lunchbox and I *still* wouldn’t pay that much sheesh.

I got that Steambox and I love it! The water goes in silver part at the bottom, ebbers appeared to have just dumped it all around (it doesn’t funnel to the middle). I’ve found steaming 1 dish for the max 25min gets it incredibly hot, to point where I gotta wait for it to cool off a bit.
For future gadgets that have voice assistants, it would be a good idea for the editor to mute or change the audio so the viewers devices don't go off 👍
The Thermometer pan would be useful if the Thermometer displayed the temperature of the center of the pan itself to control cooking making sure your pan doesn't get too hot. But just having a handle compartment for a detachable Thermometer is uncessary at best.
I do like the extra induction burner. I bought one for $10usd at a yard sale a few years ago. My son often takes it to the camp ground when they go as they have a plug in there but it also has a car adapter plug in. I guess they use it for days its raining too hard for building a fire. I use it when we go to pot lucks to use as a dish warmer. Keeps things at a perfect temp. Handy little thing if you have room for it.

I bought it as I hate cooking on electric, but want to move away from gas… so this was primarily to see how I got on with induction. I love it and plan to go that route on my main hob.
It looks much easier to store than a sous-vide, and at a similar price. If it can match the performance then I would seriously consider it a better choice.

The sous vide hob really got my attention. I've been doing that for years in a large pan on a gas stove, controlling the temperature by fiddling with the heat and the placement on the burner, cause I tell myself I don't need another expensive device that makes cooking easier, it should provide a bit of a challenge and blablabla. Once you have mastered the hard way, if only to understand just how a process works, embrace anything that will make it easier.
watching Jamie just forever looking at the cooked steak on the induction test, letting his fingers wander towards it, but not being able to eat it is pure comedy gold! Don't make him do that again though, I could see his soul leaving his body!
I don’t know. I’ve got all of my Mom’s old cookbooks with notes written in the margins, recipes clipped from the local newspaper decades ago, and handwritten recipes from her and friends. All of that kind of thing is going to be lost for most families.
I keep a magnetic Thermapen on my fridge which is steps from my stove. I always know where it is. I don't need it stord in the handle of one pan that might be in a cupboard or hanging up when I really need it.
Most battery powered appliances do not opperate while there is voltage running through a charge port as a safety precaution against fire, to prolong the battery life, and prevent user error induced damage.
The slimline hob is really nice, I have the ikea one in a place where there is only a tea kitchen and it is more than sufficient for making the odd hot meal. very convenient to have.
One of my flatmates loves her butter spreader, its a butter knife with little holes on it so when you go to get butter it makes it into strands and makes it easier to spread.
When I was travelling a lot and basically living out of my car the Tokkit hob I had was a life saver. Small enough to fit anywhere and runs off a single plug. Cant recommend them enough.
Thanks guys, you never fail to make me smile 😊 ... Though I really do miss seeing you guys all together and out of the studio... Maybe a trip is on the horizon?? 🤷🏽♀️
Ben saying “sorry I’m out” as if he’s a shark on shark tank investing in the steamer box killed me!! He’s right though, the steamer box was overpriced for a gadget that didn’t work. 🤷🏼♀️
I have a japanese made plug-in portable steamer "box" (it's roundish) that I had intended to use while traveling to reheat food in my hotel room. It does a good job of steaming food even cooking from raw. Because it's plug in, you can steam for as long as you have water available.
I've been wondering why regular induction hobs (the full sized ones) don't have temperature controls built in. It's such a useful function to have when cooking. If you're cooking something that wants you to get milk to just below a boil, being able to set your desired temperature to 97C would be a great help. Or if you're making something like cacio e pepe, or a bearnaise sauce where you don't want the temperature to go above a certain level, this type of function would be a god send.
Yeah, there's full-size ovens these days that have a temperature probe to stick into your large roast, chicken, whatever. Having that, but for the hob, would be great.
my family's hob does have temperature control built in, but in large steps, like 60-100-120-140 C etc. it doesn't have precise control like the one on video
If it's slow enough it could probably just measure the outside of the pan, knowing the inside will always be at that temp or lower. Great for something like keeping chocolate at dipping temps, but probably not great for like searing a steak. Probably why it's not common on full sized ranges, they're more designed to just dump power in as fast as possible.
"One pot to rule them all" -- The Hubbitt -- I have noticed that you don't really use any heat visualizing aps nor gadgets. Certainly someone makes one to see the external temp of a cooked thingie and if it has any cold spots.
Ive been looking for an induction burner that comes with a temperature control app because i love cooking, but I have a degenerative vision condition. Having something where a screen reader can tell me, or i could verbally control exact temperature is an incredibly helpful feature!
The accurately programmable burner would be ideal for cheese making where you have to keep a constant temp for a certain time. Now I need to see if I can get one that will do temperatures low enough!
Look at the Sage/Breville Polyscience Control Freak - much more expensive than the Tokit, not wi-fi app controlled but it is programmable. You can save the settings used (time/temp/'name' - the memory is limited but you can also save it to an included usb for later use. The connection to wi-fi for the Tokit can be quite 'sensitive' and it took me several attempts to set up (the instructions aren't great). Overall, the Sage/Breville is easier to use, feels more robust and is more flexibility regarding temperatures and timer, (I have both of these hobs).
The smart hob was the only one that seemed practical and that was because it looks storage friendly. None of these needed to be smart devices, except the first one. And I wonder how many features you lose if the apps stop working.
@@earthiswatchingBit of an assumption about what "most people" would cook if they were able to control temperatures accurately. It does mean learning about what temperatures different foods and types of cooking need but IMHO, worth the effort.
@@elizabethconvey3242 Most people aren't going to be into cooking, beyond the "I need to eat and I want it to be tasty" level. That's true for humans and any activity. Some will be really interested, some will avoid doing it, and the vast majority will do what they need to and get on with other things that interest them more.
We got a pair of induction plates so we could do Chinese hot pot at home. Sometimes I'll drag one out for making pasta because it boils so much faster, and I can set a timer and it will turn itself off if I'm busy when time is up. If my kitchen work top was larger I'd probably use it more often.
"It comes with an app" is becoming one of the most obvious and fastest turn offs for me, especially in the kitchen. For the love of god stop making me download stuff onto my phone, make an account, sync stuff up, etc etc. I'm so over it, just lemme turn a knob and start heating up. Unfortunately, by making you download an app they get your info and can sell it on, that's why often the cheapest things might have an app attached to them. I have a friend that needed to get a new clothes washer on a budget and ended up getting a "smart washer" with an app because it was the cheapest. Awesome, now they can start their washer from their app. Not sure how they're supposed to load clothes into it from the app but hey, it's SMART!
Dude I know it's becoming unbearable. We were looking at window ac units and some of the boxes advertised controlling thru an app. The ac alrey comes with a small remote. Why would an app be needed? Hope its a short lived trend.
Since the guys were talking about it! Are there any plans to bring an iPad supported version of Sidekick out, even better one which might work well with other apps (such as Netflix) in Apple's dual app mode?
Never in my life would I think a cooking show would have a segment of trying to get an alexa device to stop farting, but here we are!😂 You can also set reminders with alexa to go off at a certain time, and there's been a few that i've made before that were... for lack of a better term, not very PG! Maybe some pranking Baz could be in store for the future?😁
@@SortedFood Well, if you must know...😏 I _maaaaay_ have told someone that it's time to, let's say, eat a "particular phallic object" 🍆 randomly one day. You can leave little funny reminders, or straight up just bag on someone through alexa.🤣 Oh, and you can leave, like, actually *useful* reminders of course. But what's the fun in that?
On the Griddle Pan, is the thermometer in the handle so the probe reaches down into the body of the pan to tell you the actual pan has reached temp? That would make more obvious sense for putting it in there surely? Being able to take it out so you can check the core of the food would be an added bonus.
I always dislike the pan tests because I’ve never used a pan for the first time and it was bad . They should use it for a few days , run it through a dishwasher a few times and then do a test.
I have an extra stove ( wood burning ). If cooking a large meal, the extra cooking space is very useful. So, in a regular kitchen, an extra burner, for large meals would be nice. I have heard that induction is wonderful, so the electric stove might be the backup.
I just want _less_ smart appliances. Too much "doesn't work after a year", "needs to update at the exact moment you want to use it", "this is now a paid feature", or "we have just sold all information to keep our software company afloat".
I have one of those induction hob and I use it in the office to cook my meals. It means I can work longer hours and it doesn’t take up much room in my desk drawer.
One thing I like a separate induction burner for is cooking outside. Particularly for high heat things in the summer to help keep my apartment cool, but also for things that might get smoky or smelly.
I’m not even all the way through and already wheezing laughing 😂😂 Jamie being peak dad, Ebbers being defeated by farting AI… it was worth the battle with the Alexa for this 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Honestly we should stop having build in hobs in kitchens, it made sense back with gas since it requires a very specific connection, but with electric? do away with build in hobs, have few portable ones, when not in use store on a shelf and reclaim the counter space!!! This one is very tempting due to it's fine temperature controlls. I've been looking for something like this (my current ones have 9 settings, and every single one of them is to strong to reheat rice)
So much App Controlled garbage. An induction cooktop that requires an app is one iOS or Android update after the company goes under away from being a chunk of unusable ewaste
Something I would like to see evaluated for each device is if the app requires an account. If an app does, it should probably just get automatic zero because there (usually) isn't any justification for these types of gadgets requiring you to surrender your personal info, and, more importantly, if the service ever shuts down or just stops supporting the product, you risk the product becoming partly or totally unusable
Please please don't say Alexa. Actually joke's on you because my Fire TV stopped your video when I tried to get her to stop. Not worth restarting it. You should know better.
Electric Lunch Box (works for us) I bought this one from Amazon for ~$40. Plug in steamer (no battery). Metal trays, 3 compartments. Does its job. Switch is iffy. Works when plugged in until water is gone. Don't carry it w/ liquid inside! ? Use it at home and works fine.
If you sous vide in a pan on an induction hob like this, it's recommended to use a trivet (silicone would probably be better) underneath the food so there are no hot spots. Remember, it doesn't circulate like an induction circulator. The connection to wi-fi for the Tokit can be quite 'sensitive' and it took me several attempts to set up (the instructions aren't great). Also worth looking at is the Sage/Breville Polyscience Control Freak - much more expensive than the Tokit, not wi-fi app controlled but it is programmable and has a limited memory. You can save the settings used (time/temp/'name' to the machine and you can also save to an included USB for later use. Overall, the Sage/Breville is easier to use, feels more robust and has more flexibility regarding temperatures and timer. Sage/Breville is a well-known brand with a (generally) good reputation (I have a few of their appliances), whilst the Tokit is ‘a new kid on the block’. However, ‘if’ the latter proves to be durable (only time and usage will tell), it represents better VFM, IMHO. (I have both of these hobs.)
Omg, when Ben said Alexa farts off and it went to play a song I had a mouthful of tea and actually spat it out as I laughed that hard! I was listening to you via earphones as my husband and son were watching the football and they wondered what was wrong with me! 😂😂
The Tokit induction hob is something that would be good when going to a cabin up north or in a dorm or when you are cooking all-in-one pot dinners and don't feel like cleaning the whole stove top.
13:58 The app is really useful from an accessibility POV, as someone who is blind being able to have the temperature amd settings in the app means I can use a sxreen reader
I have an induction plate to cook certain things outside. When I need to fry something, I just plug it in outside and do it there. Not sure I need a smart one for that, but another reason to grab a moveable induction plate.
I'd say it's worth getting for being very low profile and quiet, having precise temperature control. Plus it seems to support defining presets in the app and uploading to the hob for use offline so shouldn't actually need the app most of the time. That's quite a few good reasons to get this one.
What happens if the hub server goes down? If your hub still works, but the manufacturer has decided not to support it anymore or has gone bankrupt, will it stil work?

All of that kind of thing is going to be lost for most families.
The best part about the steam lunchbox was watching them peel the layer of plastic covering off the top. That was satisfying.
"25 year warranty"
good luck getting the app to still work after 10 or even 5 years 😂
hell sometimes it months if they sell their company
I keep a magnetic Thermapen on my fridge which is steps from my stove. I always know where it is. I don't need it stord in the handle of one pan that might be in a cupboard or hanging up when I really need it.
Same! And the cast iron skillet isn’t even oven safe! What’s the point?
It's not cast iron, it's aluminum@@Huff-and-Puff
Most battery powered appliances do not opperate while there is voltage running through a charge port as a safety precaution against fire, to prolong the battery life, and prevent user error induced damage.
My poor Alexa was deeply distressed by this whole thing 😂
Waiting for the sidekick update that transports one of you guys into my kitchen to cook my dinner for me! Now that’s the smart gadget I’d like!
Should also fart on command!
The slimline hob is really nice, I have the ikea one in a place where there is only a tea kitchen and it is more than sufficient for making the odd hot meal. very convenient to have.
"Farty Tarty had a party
All the farts were there
Tutti Fruity did a beauty
And they all went out for air.
One of my flatmates loves her butter spreader, its a butter knife with little holes on it so when you go to get butter it makes it into strands and makes it easier to spread.
Normal vs chef, with only instructions and help from Alexa 😂
You have been uploading so frequently and this is all I want to watch right now so thank you 😂
Ben, we love you. Please, never change lol.
"Cook with your head and your heart", love that.
Yes!!! Ben on was on 🔥 today!!! 😊
Love it! Jamie being Jamie!
Yeah was great. He would have been channeling Dragons though not Sharks…
@@TheTeamGates yea I’m from the US and we sadly only have the sharks here 😂
I'd recommend getting the "everything" pan in the same Jean-Patrique range. The handle is removable so it's not awkward in the oven.
Wouldn’t it depend on the type of pan being used ? Aluminium, cast iron, copper ?
If it's slow enough it could probably just measure the outside of the pan, knowing the inside will always be at that temp or lower. Great for something like keeping chocolate at dipping temps, but probably not great for like searing a steak. Probably why it's not common on full sized ranges, they're more designed to just dump power in as fast as possible.
@@justjane2070 nah, they just put a thermal sensor under the glass surface to control the power of the hob. The material of the pan doesn't matter
"One pot to rule them all" -- The Hubbitt --
I have noticed that you don't really use any heat visualizing aps nor gadgets. Certainly someone makes one to see the external temp of a cooked thingie and if it has any cold spots.
2:02 this is so reletable. Right guys? 3:59 Alexa farting is peak comedy😅😅😅😅
Defo want one of those smart induction hobs! With ANOVA oven. The lunch box thingy, should the lid have been removed before cooking?
Both are great and can lift your cooking to a new level ... but ... you need to invest the time to learn to use them to their full potential.
Cheers mate, Alexa's crying
😂😂😂
I love that the number of released videos has increased! Keep up the energy!
Ebbers is the kind of guy who says "thank you" to his alexa
We must stay on the good side of our potential robot overlords
Ive been looking for an induction burner that comes with a temperature control app because i love cooking, but I have a degenerative vision condition. Having something where a screen reader can tell me, or i could verbally control exact temperature is an incredibly helpful feature!
I love you guys. And the induction hob.
The smart hob precision temperature is also key.
@@gikiryu Most people aren't going to need that level of precision.
Never in my life would I think a cooking show would have a segment of trying to get an alexa device to stop farting, but here we are!😂
You can also set reminders with alexa to go off at a certain time, and there's been a few that i've made before that were... for lack of a better term, not very PG! Maybe some pranking Baz could be in store for the future?😁
Ooooooo tell us more! 👀
@@SortedFood Well, if you must know...😏
I _maaaaay_ have told someone that it's time to, let's say, eat a "particular phallic object" 🍆 randomly one day.
You can leave little funny reminders, or straight up just bag on someone through alexa.🤣
Oh, and you can leave, like, actually *useful* reminders of course. But what's the fun in that?
Surely it's to be expected on vegetarian food channels!? All those beans.
"Never in my life would I think a cooking show..." Welcome to Sorted Food 🤣
Is it your own business?
0:58 Did Ben test out the splash proof system or is the gadget now baptised?
One thing I like a separate induction burner for is cooking outside. Particularly for high heat things in the summer to help keep my apartment cool, but also for things that might get smoky or smelly.
Y`all really gotta stop calling yourself "normals" at this point...
Anyone have a link for the hob? All I see is a round one and none that look like this one.
In future please change the wake word to something other than alexa, as it set off all of our devices at home
I have been loving the most recent videos lately!!!!
So much App Controlled garbage. An induction cooktop that requires an app is one iOS or Android update after the company goes under away from being a chunk of unusable ewaste
YAY! Love kitchen gadgets! ❤️
WE LOVE GADGET DISCOURSE! Just like Pringles, you can never have enough of them.
Happy Wednesday, everyone!
? Use it at home and works fine.
super fun stuff as always, guys. love these videos
Would it be possible to include a link or the names of the items in the video description? Maybe they are listed somewhere, and I missed them.
Ben: "This would drive me mad!"
*already driving him mad*
Would love to see you do more with the induction hob, like can it be used as a 'Sous chef' using custom presets?
Omg, when Ben said Alexa farts off and it went to play a song I had a mouthful of tea and actually spat it out as I laughed that hard!
I was listening to you via earphones as my husband and son were watching the football and they wondered what was wrong with me! 😂😂
I love the idea of that induction hob but I question it's longevity. Is it going to be useable if the product is no longer supported via an app?
I love the idea of the steam lunch box, love chinese dimsum and whatnot. For that price, oh heck no, even if it worked flawlessly.
I had to watch the first one about four times. Laughing so hard had tears in my eyes and couldn't see the screen.
I bought the hob last year when it was on offer, it's pretty good. Really comes in handy at Xmas/ Easter when you need extra burners
"that was a triumphant one!" 😂🤣😂 don't need alexa to rewind that 50 times in a row by myself 😂🥳😂
That's quite a few good reasons to get this one.
the hob alone costs less than a sous-vide machine.
GET IT
What happens if the hub server goes down? If your hub still works, but the manufacturer has decided not to support it anymore or has gone bankrupt, will it stil work?
The whole farming session was hilarious!!! Great episode overall
