Since we're on the topic of defense, I don't think people realize Luffy's durability isn't that far off from Kaido's. Luffy took just as many hits from Kaido as Kaido did from him and he brushed it off. Kaido is dominating gear 5 when he's giving his haki speech, and Luffy still survives.
