Excellent video!!! Thanks!!! Personally (riding for fun), I own and ride the same XR600R since 1994. (Is this 30 years? my god!!! 😂) I also owned and tested some other things... I would say that XR is a very universal purpose machine, but beyond that for some common dirty riding conditions it prevents pilot fatigue, much more that any other bike I tested. After some 4 hours following tracks with many mellon sized rocks my much younger friends with new style bikes are destroyed, while I feel little fatigue. A bit the concept that Scott Summers was explaining about his GNCC success. He was slower in the first hour, but well faster in the third hour. Of course the XR is a handicap in a trials section, specially if it stops 😂for some reason, but at the same time it is impressive how it climbs better than lighter new enduro machines in rought terrain, while not adding fatigue to the pilot. A total pleasure !!!
@@RAWBikesTV - question for you: I have 2 engines for my XR600R - the original kicker and a 1998 NX650 with estart. They are both good - which would you choose if you were in my shoes? Thanks!
@@nicowarr ... The XR600R feels a bit more "peppy" than the NX650 engine but in fairness it's just been rebuilt... I like kick start engines for the Sandraiders as the battery cannot go flat but many prefer the electric start as if stalled on the side of a hill, it's much easier to get going .... In one of my Sandraiders 2023 (pt4 The dead camel), I got lost and dropped the bike... It nearly did not start and the battery was running low ... It made me think about having a flat battery in the middle of nowhere on your own 😳 ... Yes, we have an emergency GPS tracker fitted, so you should be safe .... It really depends if you are happy to "kick" ...
@@RAWBikesTV Thank you - just watched that video - losing your way must've been frustrating as hell! On the XR, how do you find it to kick when the engine is hot?
Had both the dominator and the xr ,really hankering now for another XR great build good jpb it pays to be thorough especially in the Desert happy trails ...
Great video love these bikes . One thing you should probably check. The two banjo bolts that hold the pipe between the head and crankcase are two different part numbers and have different size holes for the oil feed. The darker one goes next to the oil filter and the zinc one goes to the head. I noticed your head bolt was the darker one. Might be worth checking .
great work mister when the cost of upgrading a bike is not an issue then we do great bike works .. what i like most is the after market oil cooler and its guard ! , those bikes and many more air-cooled suffer from heat ,, so i would like to know who makes those coolers and where can find them and check for my bike ... ....
Hi, I'm not sure if it's common but the heads do crack and from over heating .. hence the oil cooler to help. I'm not sure it's going to be an issue only time will tell.
I'm booked for Morroco 25. Who did you insure your bike with + yourself? The 650R is ready for MOT, but I can't find full comp with a green card. Cheers, Chris.
Sandraiders can offer insurance that you pay on arrival to Morocco … just let Marc know in advance that you require insurance… I believe it’s around €100 Euros… I could not find cover in the UK.
Hi, sorry not for sale as I intend to use for a few Sandraiders events and possibly others ... You can buy new/second hand XR650L versions in the USA .... XR600R's are hard to find in the UK .. Good luck with you hunt!
Hi, I'm not sure I can send DM to you? - I did try. I'm not sure I have room myself for another bike right now, but I if you send details via email I can ask within Sandraiders and others. jeremy.miles@raw-e.com
I have a 1988 xr600r and it's an awesome bike!!!!

Enjoyed seeing your bike refurb. Well done 👍
Thanks 👍
That looked like a nice Xr600 to start with but a comprehensive prep for the future well done.
Thanks 👍
Worldclass video record of this epic rebuild Jeremy!
Thank you ... very kind
Good video and a detailed build. Busy renovating an XR400R for Morocco next year myself, so a useful reference.
Yep, me too, see you all there..
Glad it was helpful!... See you there!

A part here and there, reality bites into the restoration dream pretty fast too, enjoy and have fun Jeremy.
Greetings,
As always another brilliant detailed video production 🇺🇲🍾🎉🇺🇲

Nice vid. Your channel and Harry M's have inspired me to run in Sandraiders, likely in 2026 now as 2025 is sold out.
Hi, maybe see you in 2026... Morocco 2025 sold out in two weeks!
Excellent video Jeremy :-)
Many thanks!
Great video! I had no idea about ABR I’ll be planning a trip next year with my XR.
Great video! I will see you at Sandraiders Tunesia. I think you will love this bike. Im almost finished with my intensive kickstart training ;)!
great video, don't know why you don't have more subscribers!
Hi, it's probably as the channel is new and not too many videos yet ... Perhaps over time ... Thanks for the kind words

Great service and value from HM Racing
Hi, HM gave great service .. Top bunch of guys!
Great content, looking forward to this journey 👌
More to come! ... I'll be recording in Tunisia Nov '24

Grande moto così non ne fanno più le rigeneri sempre e danno le stesse soddisfazioni di quando sono nate,ho un'xr 93 stupenda ❤
Great video! Which sand raiders event is better fun ? Tunisian or Morocco?
Hi, I've only been on the Morocco event... After November I can answer that question.... The Tunisia event only started last year.
Is that cyl head crack a common issue, l would be a bit concerned abt it but the builder seems to think it's ok and doesn't suggest any welding.

@@RAWBikesTVYes maybe leave it till the Winter then l would perhaps take head off and take it to a very well reputed ally welder.

For sale ?? I dream of a xr650r but none here in Ireland so a clean xr600r would also do

cracked head from plug to valve seat ..common problem on 4 valve honda heads...when that heats up the valve seat will fall out ...bye bye engine
Hi, yes that is a worry ... only time will tell... I do have spares but hopefully will not need them
I race XL 350 vintage Mx and it's quite a common problem. I've had a few heads with cracks there .. I wouldn't risk it ..
Hi I have a all original 1996 Xr600r 17000 klm no leaks or damage its for sale.
