awesome video. recently replaced a 10 years old netapp with dell unitiy and need to remove old datastore then decommission the netapp. steps work great.
very much appriciated you are truely a life saver, been messing around with this for 2 days how to correctly unmount it, if you ever set foot in Denmark ill buy you a beer!
Thanks a lot for making the excellent videos. Requesting you to make more videos like....ESX host Decommission process.....How to re-add VM from VMX file....any many more...Once again Thank you
Thank you so much Mike, you explained very well, I have query regarding same. Post successfully done inaccessible of datastore i could see the dead NAA id disk in storage device. But the option of detach is not visible after selecting that disk. Not sure what is reason behind this.🤔
Thanks very much Tarun! .. I'm not 100% sure, but it could be because the storage device is already inaccessible. Was it already removed/unpresented from the SAN? If so, you could attempt a rescan. If that doesn't work, you may just need to reboot the ESXi host.
If I want to move a single host out of the cluster can I simply unmount and detach the datastore from that single host and not worry about evacuating the VMs?

Very clear a concise video. I am in the process of doing this now and was wondering what was best practice. thank you!

Thanks for sharing 👍
Awesome. Can you make one about adding a LUN?
@ vswitchzero Yes. I need that too, if possible ca you please share that video as well ?
Sorry for the super slow reply, but yes I'll definitely look into doing a video on adding LUNs as well.
Nice video. But you missed to show how to move vCLS.
If I want to move a single host out of the cluster can I simply unmount and detach the datastore from that single host and not worry about evacuating the VMs?
Yep. Just make sure the single host is evacuated and in maintenance mode and you can unmount/detach it.
Can you please guide if we dont need to delete data stores in vCenter after following above mentioned steps ..
Shouldn't be necessary to do anything else beyond the steps outlined. If done correctly, the datastores should disappear from all vCenter views 👍
Just like to add my thanks to all the other positive comments - made a job I've been putting off a lot less worrisome.
Eres lo que no hay, me parece una verguenza que engañes asi a tu publico. Porque ocultas los DISLIKES?
