  • Economics claimed the 2024 Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes after a titanic tussle with Auguste Rodin.
    The William Haggas-trained colt had impressed when romping away with the Dante at York in May, before following up in the Prix Guillaume d’Ornano at Deauville.
    Sent off the 7-4 favourite for his first taste of Group One action, Tom Marquand was content to bide his time from his position drawn widest of all.
    He was always travelling powerfully and improving his position with every stride, with Marquand waiting to push the button aboard the strapping chestnut straightening for home.
    Long-time front-runner Luxembourg initially proved a tough nut to crack, but the closer the winning post came his Aidan O’Brien-trained stablemate Auguste Rodin proved the main threat to Ecomomics.
    Having battled it out with the defending champion in the closing stages, Economics stuck his big white nose out best to claim a thrilling neck victory.
    "It didn't look very nice, but he got the job done. I loved his head carriage in the last furlong, he really put his head down," said Haggas.
    "I thought the other horse was going to come and beat him, but he beat him.
    "I'm really pleased with him and he's coming along nicely. As long as we don't overdo him this year, he's got a big future."

    We learned quite a lot here:
    1) Economics is on par w/ City of Troy based on being 3 or 4 clear of Ghostwriter & unthreatened by Los Angeles
    2) Auguste Rodin is a middle distance horse despite his big wins at 12 furlongs

      Think you’re wrong with point 1. Los Angeles was getting closer to Economics as the line approached and the finishing margin was only 1 length and three quarter lengths. If that’s over 12 furlongs, Los Angeles might’ve at least matched or even beaten him. When City of Troy beat LA in the derby, he was 6 lengths clear. Plus, COT beat Ghostwriter by twice as far than Economics did today when he got his favoured ground at York.

    The Japanese jockey did a terrible job, he waited for a long time to get shin emperor outside, the two horse in front of him are closing to each other, there will never be a gap from that position, when he finally got him outside the horse is still full of run but it's already too late. Shin emperor is a very good horse and could have won if they just got a european jockey to ride him.

      Doesn’t work like a handicap.
      It’s on age / development.
      The lbs diminishes after every month where they fully develop. On average it wouldn’t matter what the weights were down the line if a 3yo and 4yo+ met again.

    Oh no Los Angeles was never even seen in the race who would have thought it I said it a few times 1m2 too short too fast especially in small fields. Aguste rodin is the same horse just can't find his distance doesn't know if he wants 1m 1m1f 1m4.. horse is lost. Retire him.

      why wasn't wayne lordan on LA? that was a poor ride by dylan... look how wide he comes around that bend sure you might aswell go for a cup of tea over there before your back... poor stuff real letdown of a weekend in irish racing the entire thing felt like a breeze up with the wrong horses brought. and not enough of them either.

      won at longchamp on soft ground at age 2 and he loved that track and probably excels in soft ground because of his powerful hind legs big strength and stamina i think he wins longchamp or at least places top 4.. If COT goes he wins i would say both of them like one in the same.

    coolmore smacked around in your own irish stakes with 4 of the top horses in like 7 horse field.. i mean top 7 race in the world.... city of troy just sitting around in his peak... enter him yeah then use the other good horses to win those weak grade 3s. Rodin 1m or if 1m2f on fast. LA 1m3 to 1m6 maybe even 2miles. City of troy 1m2 - 1m4. Enter city of troy he wins this easy.

    • @aman2340
      @aman2340 2 дні тому

      LA wants at least 1m4f he also likes a dig in the ground he wants it a test of strength and heart that's where he excels he likes a gallop not a sprint like this race was turned into, only way he would of got into this race was on soft ground although he was picking up at the end but he wanted at least 2 or 4 more furlongs.. if you can find the big graded handicaps he should go well in them, the more weight required in the race the better... he will hold the weight easier than a rodin or a city of troy.. graded handicaps.... also go to longchamp with this fella. Meet White Birch...

    • @aman2340
      @aman2340 2 дні тому

      1 more thing... i heard people saying City of troy can't win or run on soft ground or longchamp....and im just sitting here wondering if people are blind or stupid.... horse has 7 races with 6 wins, from those 6 wins 2 came on soft ground 2 came on Good to soft ground 1 on Good and 1 on good to firm. so 4 races where he won on soft goings.... what city of troy doesn't like is a straight track, that's it. He'll run on all the goings including dirt.
