I think that's going to be a hard argument for Anet to make unless they make that the core feature of another expansion. They're essentially making these big themed, complex weapons as a replacement to elite specs, so they're kind of like elite specs on their own.
@@VamanaGW2But they can't be seen like that because people still use other weapon for a lot of things. I don't think complexity is really needed. They just need to tweak numbers and add some QoL changes for them to compete with the newer one, just like the way they went back to remove the animation lock from Guardian's weapons or how they turn Ele's scepter into a ranged power weapon.

Thief is the biggest winner with this expac so far. Absolutely beautiful! All those gw1 skill names, the condition set of skills are from a popular skill chain for assassins back in the day😁
The warrior looks really lame, I don't care if the warrior had no cool ranged weapons, I was waiting for a gladiator based combat with powerful heavy attacks but instead the warrior uses magic to summon spears out of thin air.

I feel like "Spear" is being given the ol' Zoro treatment: "Do you even know how to use that?" "Yeah! Pointy end goes through the other man."🤣 I will say, though, it's a far better showcase than when they tried to unleash all of the new weapons on the other classes and then subsequently failed to deliver on some of them, while nerfing others to the bloody floor. This is a better-prepared showcase, in ANET terms, but they have to make up for lost ground with other performance issues in their expansion(s).
I'm so excited just thinking about the prospect of a viable, ranged Warrior weapon. Longbow is good but requires you to be close because Fan of Flames loses massive damage outside of like 300 range. And the Paragon nostalgia!!
Unpopular opinion: Engineers using bows make complete sense. You don't always want to alert your foes and so using your intellect to enhance a silent weapon is right up their wheelhouse, and same with enhancing bows to make them better (compound bow anyone). Personally I don't particularly like the canister system, but bows themselves make sense. My thoughts: I was kind of hoping for melee spear for WAR but it looks pretty cool, but for me the real show stopper here is the engineer, that looks cool and I can't wait to try it.

NEW WEAPON PREVIEW"
Proceeds to show thief spinning and attacking with spear wielded in a single hand...
Also this attack I mentioned has some serious insect glaive vibes.
I hate how they do the spinny thing for EVERY spear they throw... dude.. just grab it the other way around from the start........ don't know why it bothers me so much but it does... and every ranged spear animation does the same thing......
Ooh, I love ranged weapons for heavy classes, so the Warrior Spear looks kind of like it'd be up my alley! I also feel like the current ranged options for the Warrior are kind of lacking. I hope it does decent damage even at range, and the bonus damage when close is only a cherry on top, because otherwise that would kind of defeat the purpose of the weapon being ranged, if you still have to get close to make it viable.
Hit me baby one more time?
(In a thief voice) My loneliness is killing me, I must confess I still believe.
(While in stealth) When I'm not with you I lose my mind, give me a sign, hit me baby one more time (weapon skill 2 finisher)!
Ok... "two" handed weapon in the name only. They are used mostly onehanded in the clips. Where are my offhand weapons?! I hoped to have offhand like paragon in gw1. It makes little sense to not have them if your characters use them mostly in one hand ffs -.-
Haven't been excited for an Engineer weapon since Hammer. Love Holosmith idea but felt the weapon was kinda meh but damn spear looks like fun very excited.
Warrior : How many more power-oriented weapons are you going to give me?
Devs : Yes
it's honestly kinda ridiculus at this point...
I take it back. Elementalist isnt cu cullain. Warrior is. (Which feels a lot better). But I’ll really miss out on not being able to scream “lancer died” when eles die
So they aren't going full palm strike noob with the thief "assassin" combos. Good to know.
Aww man I wanted the warrior to have a more spartan feel. I thought there'd be a kick knockback animation
Engi shortbow is the kid in weapon school who got pushed into the lockers by mace and shield
Paragons are back! Can’t wait for devishes though
Engi Shortbow is meta for Heal Scrapper in WvW.
Finally I can play warrior with shield and Spear like a Spartan
It’s insanely nice that the warrior skills are named and somehow work similar to the paragon spear skills in gw1 ❤
mukkkkk you are drastically misremembering Aloy’s spear abilities hahaha
Horizon Zero Dawn - The Frozen Wilds DLC
- Banuk Stormslinger: A spear shaped weapon that also fired lightning charges
- Forgefire: A spear shaped weapon with a sack attached to it holding flammable fluid that was essentially a flamethrower
- Icerail: similar to above but was a close range weapon with low damage and high amounts of freeze
I feel like "Spear" is being given the ol' Zoro treatment:
"Do you even know how to use that?"
"Yeah! Pointy end goes through the other man."🤣
I will say, though, it's a far better showcase than when they tried to unleash all of the new weapons on the other classes and then subsequently failed to deliver on some of them, while nerfing others to the bloody floor.
So far there doesn't seem to be a lot of support-oriented skills, which makes me a bit sad.
But spears are my favourite weapon type so I'm still hype.
Since when are bows silent?
@@CorwynGC Since always.
If you have a lighter string and some string silencers on it you can reduce almost all of the noise. And the default noise from a bow could be considered essentially silent.
They're a damn sight more silent than guns!
@@Bunstonious In other words, not. Certainly not from any distance that counts as agro in game.
@CorwynGC hey man, if you want to be disingenuous and combative for no reason, you do you. You're wrong, but that's OK.
@@Bunstonious You were the one who wanted to be combative. You said at the very beginning that yours was an unpopular opinion. And then claimed that lighter strings and string silencers have always been available, and bows have always been silent. Of course having someone point out your mistakes is always going to cause you to use insults.
Me: "Warrior's been feeling meh for a while; think I'm gonna need to pick another new main"
GW2: "We're giving warrior a ranged power weapon that doesn't suck!"
Me: "...crap, well played Anet. Well played."
They simply transferred paragon from gw1 into gw2 now
Paragon's are back
