I still have no idea how he does all of it at the same time!
by simplifying the mental load of the vocals...see, at the points of musical complexity the vocals simplify, making the blend easier to control. On the edge, it's spectacular.
Could have been another guitarist backstage maybe
@@66hats Nah, that's Lindsey Buckingham. He's just that good
@@burtlangoustine1 there is no simplifying of anything, this is insane, it is genius level guitar playing. There are no “tricks” or quick ways to play anything even close to this this other than being one of the most hard working and talented acoustic guitar players on the planet….. very under-appreciated by us. So many of FM’s songs would not have had the depth they had without this absolute god with them, he takes guitar music to the highest level.
@@66hats nope
People say that he is the most underrated guitarist, but they tend to forget that he is also an underrated producer, singer, arranger and overall musician. no one can pull that song off live other than him, this is so intense, keeping that fast rhythm, doing those extreme fingerstyle patterns and still having the breath control to truly sing, and it’s all on him, no one to lean on musically, just unbelievable.
Glen Campbell could've played the guitar on this song as well as Lindsey, but he's the only one that in 55 years of rockin' that I could think of. He, the guitarist in The Wrecking Crew who made so many star's songs truly great, was the only one with the finger speed and touch to be able to match Lyndsey. Still, Lyndsey's the one and only to originate this song, play a mean guitar and sing the lyrics all in one live take. The man's level of musicianship is that which anyone taking up guitar should hold as a level to aim for.
Well said, friend
Maybe not singer. The rest true for sure.
@@randomdude6136 try to sing along with Fleetwood Mac song, you will realize that singing along with Lindsey is not that easy
@@ranmitrani3948 the act of singing while playing wasn't what i was talking about...it's impressive. His voice isn't that good. Off pitch a lot.
One man, one guitar, a million chills.
amen.
What's the sacrifice here?? Love, family, personal life. All to reach millions...is it worth it?! FUCK yeah
His finger work is fanominal in this song.
One man, one guitar sounding like 2 guitars
One man, million talents
I think this is still one of the most amazing solo performances I've ever seen.
ABSOLUTELY!!
I agree. You should watch John Mayer Neon live in l.a. It’ll blow your mind
Juan Sebastian Castro Molestina theyre actually my two favourites!! Love it
Agreed. He is very very precious this cat. The new album sounds amazing

For those who don't play any instruments, let me just tell you, what Lindsay is doing here is nothing short of genius. People really don't understand just how difficult it is to play & sing in sync. But for Lindsay to pull off singing whilst fingerpicking the guitar, is a technique that even todays artists cannot pull off ! He really IS that good !!
Lindsey's style is so uniquely his. Others try it and come close but none have his feel. He's one of those real artist that gets inspired by others and then just incorporates his own thing to it. Him, Mark Knopfler, they just do things you don't see anyone else do, and they immediately sound like them, so incredibly recognizable. God they are awesome
It's more like fingerstyle really ... He does show how it's done though❤
That’s a three man band for us mere mortals. I used to play piano and couldn’t sing at the same time. Hes incredibly gifted.
It’s the speed he’s picking aswell unreal talent that takes
@@rjlcfc The speed and the power he plays with. I (and I think a lot of guitarists) can keep up with this speed but not coming close with the same power he plays this at this speed
Imagine playing what sounds like three different parts at the same time on guitar and singing too? In front of an audience? Live? Without any slip-ups? This is the reason he is in a different league from others.
Hes def top 5 for me, no question
I know how to play this song but not nearly this well obviously and I can't sing while doing it. But let me tell you that the part at 1:38 is the hardest even though the picking pattern is fairly easy. you simply can't play it in tempo it's so fast even after months of practicing. Practicing this song gave me months of shoulder tendonitis because it's simply impossible to relax your arm while playing like a fucking machinegun.
He's excellent
I was just thinking the same thing. You would guess at least 2 guitarists if not 3 it’s just incredible
@@tamasvarga9862 it was easy enough for me....but I have a classical guitar background and also play bluegrass banjo
They needed two guitar players to create the sound he made by himself. A VERY underrated talent.
Insane perfect. Fou. Irre. Danke.
Any competent guitarist can play this song quite easily
@@nj1978and sing the song as well, OK
@@nj1978 OK, we are waiting for your video. It must include the vocals and recorded, live, one take.
@@prestoncrewnarrowboaters8619 I never said that 👍
My man played the lead guitar as well as the whole freaking rhythm section as well. He's a beast!
And sings😮
Shame he forgot to bring his drum kit.
Who’s still listening in 2024?! This is an amazing live performance by Lindsey!! He’s an exceptional singer, guitarist and extremely talented!! This is one of the best live performances of all time!!! 🎶💯💙
Love this.
I definitely am. I got my 1st gtr lesson from Lindsay when I was 9 years old. He & Stevie lived next door and used to watch me while my folks went out and partied. This was right before they joined Fleetwood Mac. I’m 57 now, been a professional musician most of my life and still regard Lindsay as one of the most talented, passionate and ingenious musician/songwriter/producers ever. Although I’ve never met him as an adult, he remains a huge inspiration to me. (And btw, Stevie was a total sweetheart to me as well)
@@jonnyroxx7172 how wonderful 😊
Lindsey has inspired me to learn guitar he's an incredible talent
Me
I worked at their concert in 2003 in Dublin and as I was taking the locks of the fire exits he was doing a sound check on the stage ,he then sang this exact version with just me and him in the arena I was no more than 20 feet away from him ,I was stuck to the floor ,played with the same passion even in the sound check
Wow! you lucky git!!
Agreed what a neat story and a wonderful gift.
@@glenkindillon9398 memorable !
I've been playing guitar for 23 years and can play songs from some of the most legendary virtuosos and I just cannot fathom how someone can play this and sing at the same time. Hes an absolute legend
Im 52. Ive been playing daily for the best part of 40 years. Im pretty sure with a little time and the sheets I can play practically anything within reason. I wouldnt know where to start with this. Lindsay is in a league I cant even see from where I am sitting.
No and he's an amazing singer as well.
THIS. I made it a new year resolution to learn this song this year, it’s May and I’ve got about 30% down, it’s a ridiculously genius piece of music. And as for singing at the same time? Cannot get my head around it. Man’s a genius.
Couldn’t agree more 🙌
@@dannymarley5817 how’s your progress?
The moment your fingers start picking those strings, you've got nowhere to hide. We can all hear what's going on, clear as day. Every note. So you better not fluff it, man! An outrageous piece of musicianship.
Not only a virtuoso guitar and vocal performance….but to keep up the bassline, his stamina must be near superhuman!
just so impressive how he continually improves. This sounds miles better than he did in the 70s. So much more sincere and fullllll of heart.
As a life-long metal head, that's seen and heard so many extremely talented guitarists over the last five decades, there's no way Lindsey Buckingham doesn't belong in the top 10 of all time discussion! The definition of talent exists in people like this!
Last time I saw a Top 100 list of rock guitarists, they had Lindsey at #100. Music critics are outstanding clueless
@@ja3482 Yep, I actually once saw Kurt Cobain in the top 10 of an all time greatest guitarist list. SMH
@@tipigi3570 yep 😂 the one that always pisses me off the most is when they put Bonnie Raitt in like top 30 or something. "But definitely not because she's a woman" right?
Well we now know what he was doing at home practicing while she worked so dam hard being a waitress with in the first nine months with Fleetwood Mac they together made a million bucks to me she got her reward in the time to have a baby . And that's a whole nother story
He's not just a great guitarist, his own personal style is also extremely hard to try and emulate. This superfast fingerpicking nonsense he is doing, goes so counter to what we are normally taught in musical lessons. The only thing that comes close is spanish flamenco or some of the more offbeat classical etudes.
Honestly this has to be up there as the most impressive performance of all time. The guitar playing and singing at the same time is unbelievable.
This brother didn’t miss a note and sang
The fact that he's playing rhythm and lead at the same time is incredible.
This man is unusually gifted. What a beast
You right here, *described him with PERFECTION!!* Finally, someone has the words I could not come up with. Thank you 😊
Oh! May I quote you? With credit of course.
Mick Fleetwood couldn't have made a better decision than to sign Buckingham & Nicks to their group…incredible musicians! Lindsey is far underrated - he deserves much more acknowledgement. He is a genius!
I LOVE WHEN ITS JUST MICK AND LINDSEY ON STAGE!!! Those two have an energy...that just connects! 🎶🎶🌌🌌😍😍
And a bigger mistake getting rid of him on their “last” tour.
Don't get the big deal about Mick Fleetwood, the band should got rid of him even though he is a co called founder
Under rated yes!
He gets a lot of recognition... I don’t understand why everyone says this lmao. He’s one of the most successful and highly rated musicians of all time. There are millions with incredible talent that get 0 recognision.
So much better than the album version. Chilling...sensational. A real artist of our time
I can't get enough of this version gives me chills
And he even feminized his voice without a sampler!
This is beyond words of explanation
Only professional guitarists can grasp how insanely difficult is the guitar playing in this song...and to top it all up, he sings as well!! Out of this world!!!
Jaw dropping, subtle changing in phrasing all the while keeping the bass clean...and yeah, add in he's singing too
Yeo, to sing whilst performing that Travis picking style at breakneck speed is just incredible.
Sure thing,
One has to have put your own fingers into his playing style, to be able to understand how
crazy difficult it is ! 😊
It’s crazy how he plays the guitar like a piano. Since he finger picks instead of strumming and he’s coordinated/musically inclined enough to play two parts on one guitar, he’s able to play a melody at the same time he’s playing rhythm guitar, kind of like a piano. If you watch him play landslide you can notice this. There’s good videos of just him playing. That song totally sounds like two guitars but it’s just him. I can’t name another guitarist that does that. Maybe Jerry Garcia?
I've watched this amazing performance several times but I still find it hard to believe how he was able to play the whole song flawlessly. It's like watching the impossible.
He wasn’t a part of one of the biggest bands ever for no reason. Dude is a beast
Mastery. To Be able to play this AND sing is unreal!
And he’s self taught!
What a performance wow just wow
LB is 100% Fabulous in everything, from head to toe, even now in 2024!
I’ve had to apologise to my guitar after seeing that guitar playing, absolutely brilliant.
😂
Me too 😂
As a guitar player i must say. Sometimes you watch an amazing player doing great stuff, and maybe you are don't have the skills to pull the same off, however you understand how is done, with this song... damn, is so much going on at the same time and watching closely Lindsey's playing i can barely get a grasp of what is going on and on top of that he's also singing. Truly outstanding.
Not much really
Absolutely, a guitarist technician's dream...And yes, to have that guttural voice on command is a huge bonus. He def is FLEETWOOD MACK!
@@russelllagow9169 So I guess you can play it exactly in the same speed and accuracy while singing?
@@dietermieter2866 He probably couldn't play a spoon and swallow at the same time.
The degree of difficulty, particularly with the thumb on the bass line defies logic.
Never really seen anything like it
Making the ladies scream for 30 years. Well played, Lindsey. Well played.
The mental and physical coordination required to play that guitar and sing is mind boggling. One of the best guitarists ever but never shows up in the "Top 100" guitarists crap
I believe he's rated (or should I say under-rated) at number 100!!
Hes a Total Musician ( composer , songwriter, arranger , great great guitarist )
Lindsey is supernatural.
I've literally watched every live version of this song I could find. Lindsey's guitar on this song is a stand out!!!!
me 2
me too haha
Just showed this to my 8 year old who's learning ukelele. Her reply- " he'd had to have done a bunch of practicing to do that."
Very true little one 😂
He will forever live in the Olympus that he himself created.
Lynsey slides into everyones top 10 guitarists after seeing this. Just incredible
Lindsey but yes totally agree...
Agreed
That’s how he carries Fleetwood Mac. Just one guitarist and a bass. All you need is buckingham. He’s incredible!!
@@victormoon2349 I slighty disagree . He definitely sparked the band ina new direction but the band was blend of talent . They needed each other. Never break the chain!
I can’t watch it enough. You have to see it a few times to really appreciate what sound he creates. There is no Fleetwood Mac without LB
I'm not a big Fleetwood Mac fan, but this is REALLY impressive. His arpeggio picking is mechanically, metrically flawless. Live. While he's singing. Again, WOW!
Imagine: he wrote this, it didn’t exist before he did. That always amazes me how much we take this and similar talent for granted
Greatness is when you can make 1 guitar sound like 3 guitars.
…while making it look effortless…
I'm still watching in 2025. I saw him play it at the O2 in London a few years back with the full line up of Fleetwood Mac. Incredible !
This is my favorite solo-performance ever. Any version.
Brilliant.
man i come back to this once in a while, the music video to this song with fleetwood mac is one of the most trippy and ahead of its time. people should check it out
neon john mayer live in LA trumps this by a loooonggg mile
The guys got skills.
Old school.
Un petit orchestre à lui tout seul. Quite magic ✨
I have been playing guitar for over 20 years and can appreciate what is going on here! It’s literally mental! Then add the fact he is singing over it all ❤
It's so good its ridiculous
If my close my eyes I can visualize a guy playing bass, 2 guys on guitars and one guy on vocals
One of the best accoustic guitar players of all time.....
No accompaniment necessary! Just him and his guitar. Powerful! Lindsey is arguably one of the best finger style guitarists ever.
Saw him in Boston, best thing I've ever seen
I've been listening to the song steady, trying to determine if he uses fingerpics, or if more guitars were involved. Then I saw the video! Amazing!
still love this from all those years ago...love is eternal.
Any song is tough at 280 bpm. This is insane!
Went to his concert in Durham on this tour. He got over half a dozen standing ovations.
This song alone would be worth the price of a concert ticket. The rest of the concert would be a bonus. Literally unbelievable performance, and the song is so good.
He deserves to be mentioned in the same pantheon of greats such as Hendrix, Beck, Santana, McLaughlin and Van Halen.
SRV too?
@@Joe_Comino Of course!
Add Knopfler, too! Do we add Fripp to that list?
@@cherrypepsi2815we don't. :)
Pacho DeLucia? Sergovia? Al Dimeola? Granted, they don't sing at the same time.
Playing this is hard enough… playing this and singing at the same time is GODLY!!
UN-Godly!
I've seen him do this LIVE in ~1994.. spraying sweat off his forehead into the first 3-4 rows of the audience in the song's final moments..
The raw ENERGY of this man is a sight to behold !
Lindsey Buckingham is a pure virtuoso his body transcends to another space and time when he plays live forever my friend
Good Lord, that guitar playing is simply off the charts. Cracking performance all round.
Wow wow!! Just gorgeous !!!!!
One of the greatest performances I've seen.
Nov 24 just saw this. Putting everything out there! Brilliant
Lindsey is in my top 10 of all time influential guitarists.
This is master work. I've been playing for half of my life and there is no way, at this moment, I could pull off that level of accuracy, tone, accents, with a guitar hanging halfway down my body. I couldn't even do this playing in the classical position that I do. This is some bullshit.
It sure is, mate. He makes it look effortless and I know he wrote it, but damn.
A real "save some pussy for the rest of us" moment.
And he’s also doing awesome singing at the same time… 🤯
😂😆💀💀
There are 8 billion people on this planet, but I'm happy to be one of the 12,000 who liked this piece.
Had to take my guitar back, must have been broken as it didnt sound anything like this. What planet is LB from? Just unbelievably talented.
Playing that is hard enough on its own. Singing along with it. Wow. His hand control is phenomenal. Great songwriter too !
Mind blown, how the hell does he do that? Brilliant xx
His arpeggio style is incredible 🙌
this is effing amazing! now who would cut it off just before the thundrous applause???!!! its a part of the whole experience don't you know? such an incredible performance...i keep watching over and over. wow.
The pain in his voice just punches you in the heart so much soul
This is Audio is so clean.
Never gets old!
A special performance indeed
Only people with no sense would call lindsey underrated. The guy is a genius.
Lindsey Buckingham: Reminding guitarist that they have two hands for nearly half a century.
Ever wondered how a man feels when his lover leaves? this performance will open doors where words alone cannot go
An act of sheer genius. Spellbinding. Thank you Lindsey.
Starts playing - really impressed
Starts singing while playing- mind blown,
Buckingham is the goat
Best guitarist. Sounds like multiple guitars at times.
For multiple guitars at a time genius sound try Alex Degrassi Turning Turning Back or Southern Exposure
...so amazing...
To play those parts on guitar and to sing at the same time, his mind is a machine
And that lady’s and gentleman is how it’s done!
Putting yourself on the line with such complex guitar work really is the mark of a genius ❤❤❤❤
75% of Fleetwood Mac's talent right here.
At least.
Understand your point
Not sure I quite agree
But him and mr Knopfler are the most underrated guitarists and he’s a great songwriter too.
But Fleetwood Mac were alchemy so even Fleetwoods understated drumming and McVies bass provide the foundations for Buckingham (mainly) but also Nicks and Chrissy to create beauty.
But when I talked guitars to my kids this performance is the peak
this song alone proves that
I agree with some iteration of Mac. But “Fleetwood Mac” and “Rumors” were more collaborative. Christine McVie did a few song. The original white album he had 2 1/2 credits, Rumors was 3 1/5, Tusk was 8 of 15 song (and I agree that album was more of a forced vision of Buckingham). But the sound of Old Mac was more bass and heavy percussion and the latest Buckingham/McVie collaboration which features Mick Fleetwood and John McVie sounds more like a pure Buckingham album. Tiny rhythm section. His vision took over the band and had “somebody” not gotten upset he’d still be there. There are albums where “somebody” barely showed up to work!
@@injuredtabletennisplayer1474 Lindsey's share of the work is not a question of how many songs he wrote himself. No, the thing is that he was largely responsible for the band's sound due to his work as their musical leader, arranger and producer. And he is the one who came up with all of the famous guitar riffs and also many of the keyboard riffs.
Mick and John provided drums and bass, and Christine played piano, organ and synthesizer. Stevie didn't play any instruments and was absent most of the time (not only during the making of Tango in the Night, but also during the making of the band's other albums), except when she has to sing lead or provide backing vocals. She and John weren't as much in the studio as Lindsey, Christine and Mick. You can read more about it here: stevie-nicks.info/1982/09/01/fleetwood-mac-wheres-stevie/

...while singing.
And he wrote it
Many people play acoustic like that (see Davy Graham's "The Guitar Player") but few have this level of control and skill.
And that's before we mention singing while playing this relatively difficult piece.
Hands down the best guitar performance to date.
