  • The drum sound Bonham achieved on this song is the most sampled in history. Keep in mind his drums only had two microphones. Zeppelin recorded the song in a lobby of a mansion with a 20 foot staircase. Bonham's power is in full display.
    I used the same 50s echo unit that Bonham used to record the song. It is super rare (Binson Echorec). I also mixed with some Universal Audio Plugins, which all ran into outboard equipment such as an ADR Compex compressor (a clone of the type Zeppelin used in that era), and the Heritage Audio Motor City EQ. The original drum track was removed using Moises. There is no drum sound other than my kit.
    Special thanks to NASA Engineer John Hamley of @BrunswickAmplifier. He's the Binson wizard in the USA who restored mine back to its old glory. Nothing comes close to the sound a Binson makes. Enjoy
