The folks at DEERFAMY sent me their BLUE 301 Lightweight Ice Fishing Tent to review and test. This tent will accommodate 6-8 anglers. It's lightweight, easy to set up and comes with a ton of great features. This double-hub, pop-up style, ice fishing shelter is simple, easy and very well worth the price. Watch the initial unboxing and gear review video below for my first impressions. Subscribe to the channel because you'll see a second video of me using the tent as soon as the ice fishing conditions permit. Thanks Nico for stopping by. I can't wait for Ice Fishing season. The new gear already has me itching. We have deer season up first, but then I'm sure we'll be on the ice in December. Stick with me!
Easy to setup. Nice reflectors to be seen when other vehicles are close. Good idea for the skirt to put slush. Easy to take down too! Thank you for sharing!😁
The reflectors are a must. I've slept out overnight on the ice in tents before and sometimes, unfortunately snow machines and alcohol go poorly together. I've seen people just ripping around like crazy people in the dark. I do think that the reflectors may help against accidents. It's super easy to set up and take down. I really can't wait to take it out this winter. If I use my propane heater in there, it will be warm enough in like -30c to be fishing in a tee-shirt.
It is a great tent for ice fishing. Looks like you can have a comfy time in it when out on the ice fishing. Hope you get out and enjoy the beautiful Autumn. 😊😊😊
Thanks so much! Yup, ice fishing will still be about another 6-8 weeks down the road. Deer season first! Although, we have some snow in the forecast, so I'm curious if that might get the big bucks moving tomorrow. I have the morning to myself to go (no snacksquad), wish me luck!
They're really well worth it. It makes a big difference to get out of the wind and even without a heater, they trap a lot of body heat to keep you warm. I have a couple different heater options I'll run in it and likely we'll try an overnight camp in it on the ice too! Lots of fun to come when the ice hits.
Absolutely Dug! We usually host a bunch of families out on an ice fishing day in February. I'll bring out the BBQ and cook a bunch of dogs and we'll set up all the tents we have and all the rods I have so families and folks can try fishing when they don't normally get to. It's one of those bucket filling things we like to host for families and friends. This will come in handy to keep a good group warm and toasty - especially if we run a propane heater in it too.
Thanks - it sure is huge! It will definitely fit our family in it but I'll likely use it for an overnighter on the ice in the winter. You could quite easily fish a half dozen holes in there or more if you wanted to.
You're right! Getting out of the wind makes a big difference, but we have a couple of different sizes of propane heaters that we can run in it when we really want to heat it up. I think this thing will fit a cot or two, so hopefully we can do some ice camping in it with the kiddos in winter.
Thanks Kev - Deerfamy seems to make good quality products that are valued price. I have a smaller single hub tent that you can fish 2-3 people out of and I've even slept in it before at hunting camp and also on the ice for ice fishing over nighters. These things are great if you use a propane heater in them (just don't forget the carbon monoxide detectors and ventilation).
So quick to set up. I had it up and ready to go in like three minutes - probably less. The hardest part is screwing in the ice anchors. In thick hard ice that can be pretty exhausting, but I've seen people get attachments for their ice auger or a battery electric drill to help speed up that process.
Thank you so much for watching the video. I hope people who are in the market for a tent consider this one. It strikes an awesome balance between features and cost. It's a great intro tent I think. I'll test it more in real fishing conditions in mid-late December. Usually we get out on the first ice around Christmas. Thank you for watching the video - for the support and for leaving a comment. It means a lot to me.
Hey Mr. Garry - thanks for watching and the support. I can't wait to get this thing out on the ice. It's roomy and will be great for days where I'm taking out the whole Snacksquad! Also, I like to do an ice fishing overnighter on the lake, so this should be enough room for a few cots in there and a heater too to keep it toasty warm!
Thank you so much for checking out the video. It packs up easily and I kid you not when I say that it takes under three minutes to set up. It's so easy! I can't wait to try it out on the ice. Usually we're ice fishing in mid-late December, depending on conditions!
Thank you so much! I really like it to on first set up. I can't wait to try it out on the ice. I don't think I've seen you here at the channel - so make sure you subscribe since I'll be using it as soon as the ice is safe to use! Thanks so much for stopping by and see you again soon!
What a cool looking tent and looked real easy to put up and take down. Like you, really liked the directions being attached to the tent, that is cool. Very good price point and great review, can't wait to see you and the snack squad put it to use.
Thanks! I can’t wait to get out there and see if we can put a few fish on the ice! November will be mainly deer season for me, but by mid to late December we should be good to ice fish depending on the weather. The forecast overnight is temperatures below freezing and we have a few centimeters of snow in the forecast.
That has to be a big plus having that easy setup. Last thing you want to do in the cold is take a lot of time on the setup 👍 Very nice looking tent for sure Dan! Great idea with the reflectors 👍 Nice easy breakdown too. Good stuff brother. Looking forward to seeing you guys out in it😉
Thanks Chris - these tents have come a long way over the years. Honestly, I probably had this thing up in like two minutes. The tricky part though is hand cranking those anchors down into the ice. I think you can get an attatchment for your ice auger or a drill that can help but that's the tiring part of the set up. Hope you're having a good week and hope you had a happy Halloween.
Thanks John. I can't wait to get out on it. Deer season is up next , but I'm sure we'll be on the ice sometime in December. It's already getting colder and we have our first snow in the forecast tomorrow morning.
Thanks Mark. We have deer season up next, but it won't be long until we're on the ice. I can't wait to get out here in this tent and get on some more fish!
Thanks Age - can't wait to try it out on the ice. We have our first snow in the forecast - a few centimeters, it will be ice fishing season in a blink of an eye. Hope you had a good Halloween and have a great weekend too. Good luck if you're out hunting. I'm going out solo tomorrow morning - hopefully the fresh snow gets some deer moving.
HaHa, no joke! We have some snow in the forecast tonight and into tomorrow. Not much - a few centimeters, but the temperatures are below freezing most of tomorrow so I can't see it going anywhere too fast... time to dig out the snow brush..
I have the Otter 9x9 Pro Lodge. I love it. Planning to do some Fall camping in it as well before freeze up happens. I mostly bought it because of the velcro windows. Using a welding blanket I cut out the same size of the window and added velcro around the edge and a stove pipe hole to make it a hot tent for winter camping. Then I discovered those diesel heaters so going to experiment with both this year.
I'd love to mod this to use with the wood stove. I've used propane heaters in ice fishing tents in the past and they do work well as long as you have ventilation and a carbon monoxide detector. Wood gives so much more cozy camp vibes though. This big tent has enough room to set up a few cots - I still have bunk cots too, so I might try to take out both boys for an overnighter on the ice later in the season when the ice is mega thick. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have an awesome weekend.
@DCOutdoors yup, I'm planning to go out and work any bugs out of my ice hut/ hot tent in another week or two just on some crown land to figure out what works and what doesn't before going out on a lake at 20 below and finding out a certain heat source didn't quite cut it or was too much heat etc. Plus figure out all the other winter camping stuff before winter actually sets in for the long haul. I've used propane in mine as well with the vents open and it was fine. But your right, wood heat is so cozy.
Hey Christina, great question. I think it will hold up really well in the wind. The only struggle with these hub tents is that on a windy day they can be a nightmare to put up. You're trying to anchor it down quickly before the tent blows clear across the lake. It's tricky because screwing the anchors into the ice takes some time. On windy days I need an extra set of hands from the Walleye Whisperer to help me set these hub tents up. No joke - a few years ago, I saw a guy setting one up and his turned into a kite on the lake. I ran over the best I could to help but he'd already damaged his tent by the time I got there to lend a hand.

Bring on the winter . Please hit that like , brilliant .

I’m new to ice fishing and I appreciate seeing this review. Interesting how it has blackout feature.
Easy to setup. Nice reflectors to be seen when other vehicles are close. Good idea for the skirt to put slush. Easy to take down too! Thank you for sharing!😁

It looks to be a good ice fishing tent. They are getting more and more popular here last years now.

That is a big shelter. The snack squad can bring buddies.

Great review Dan !! That’s a great winter color !! Pretty sharp looking! Anything to block that wind is plus!! Thanks for sharing 👍🏼🎣

Very good looking intro ice fishing tent. Something I'll definitely keep in mind! Thanks Dan!

The Blue 301 looks awesome Dan! Deerfamy created a great product here. Assembly is EASY. I like it!

I was surprised at the price. Not bad. Thanks for showing us, Dan!
It's a great deal for the features, right? I can't wait to get it out on the ice. But first I gotta get a deer, lol. Have a good weekend.
Great review and walk through of the fishing tent.

Very nice review Dan, it's almost that time again, looking forward to seeing you use that one.
Thanks for watching, I'm looking forward to getting out on the ice with it too!
Looks pretty solid.
Thanks for the video brother
Thanks Mark. We have deer season up next, but it won't be long until we're on the ice. I can't wait to get out here in this tent and get on some more fish!
Great review, very thorough and detailed. 👍
Thanks, glad you found it helpful!
Looks like a great product Dan
Thanks - it's priced really well and seems to be a good value option. I can't wait to drag it out on the ice this winter.
Looks like a nice tent😁😁
Thanks Age - can't wait to try it out on the ice. We have our first snow in the forecast - a few centimeters, it will be ice fishing season in a blink of an eye. @@DCOutdoors I plan to head out tomorrow to see if there are deer roaming around🦌🦌
Good luck on your hunt tomorrow😃😃
Sure hope you get some pretty awesome use out of it...just not too soon though! lol

Great video and review, Dan!!! Looked pretty simple to put up alone, that's a win! How do you think it will hold up in the wind?
Hey Christina, great question. I think it will hold up really well in the wind. The only struggle with these hub tents is that on a windy day they can be a nightmare to put up. You're trying to anchor it down quickly before the tent blows clear across the lake. It's tricky because screwing the anchors into the ice takes some time.
