Fantastic Narratives. Always enjoyed this flick (came out in my late teens as well). Never understood why it didn't get more of a following. It is far more clever than people give it credit for. The first time I saw it was just after the clinton scandal happened. So naturally I thought it was just keeping up with the times. Mind blown!
Mark Knoffler was the musical director of the Film. His haunting slidey guitar sets a very serious stage. The Willy Nelson Charecter appears to bring your head back to reality occasionally. Merle Haggard was excellent as well......
Who are you sons of bitches? And where are you taking me? I think you failed to look at the plane scene that really stands out. It is like if it was from another movie. The rest of this film is pleasent, comfortable and easygoing. But the planescene is gritty, scary, chaotic. I think Schuman is a symbol for "the people", to caught up in his daily routine, beans, laundryday, excerciseyard, to really understand what is going on around him. But since the film is told from the perspective of the elites, Schuman is really really scary. We do not know that he really was crazy, we just know that the elites perceive him as crazy and scary. Thats not the same thing.
