I know! I liked to have died laughing, especially at the expression of amazement on Christy's face in response to the children's immature understanding of their own spiritual faith, ha ha!
Christy & Neil were combustible, which makes for a great relationship b/c it's never dull & there's lots of making up although as Neil grew to know Christy, he understood her more & she the same for him. They were a perfectly matched set the two of them. It didn't seem so much w/David.
I remember when this first came out on television. From the first moment Christy & Neil met that they were perfect for her. It was even more so after he laughed when she was scolding him for the smells she remembered in the O'Teal house I think it was. He laughed then explained he wasn't making a joke at her expense, it was just funny the way her nose crinkled at the remembering of it. They complimented each other. Heck, David's sister should have been written as a betrothal - snore-fest!
That fact that she was unaware of him *courting* her screams a lot about how little chemistry there is between them. The girl is literally blind to him.
I’m team David all the way. The doctor is technically married, comes with way too much baggage in that department, and he’s too old for her. David is more her age, sweet, hard working, would do anything for her, and oh so perfect. (Swoon) I like the doc but Christy seems too young compared to him. Doc feels like he’s at least 10 years her senior.
OHMYGOSH! I remember renting these from the library/Christian bookstore and watching them on VHS. I loved David sooooooooo much - in the book, show, and EVEN the movie (even though they didn't portray him well). He was sooo sweet and just such a good guy (and cute!). He just needed to grow up a little bit more, but so did Christy. They were just awesome together. It broke my heart that things didn't work out better. I never liked the doctor guy, at all, EVER. URGH!
Yes, she is. I wish it would've been possible for her to continue playing the role of Ruby Mae in the "Christy" movies. But she had gotten too old for that part by the time those were filmed.
I'm sorry but I just think David is a cutie pie!! He's like a nervous teenage boy around Christy and it so cute to watch!! I never understood the whole Neil and Christy thing. I always saw them as just friends who bicker a lot!! I think if I had been Christy I would have chosen David
Never, ever, not in a million years .... With Christy, there is a slow burning fire with Doc -- it's passion, it's that warm feeling that starts in the "nether regions" and works its way up to the heart .... Doc also sees Christy as his equal, someone he can trust with his patients, someone eager to learn - not just about the world around her but about Doc's world - medicine and research; with David, as we've seen with his sister, he is the "man" there is a gender superiority that Christy would resent within the first few months of courting, not to mention marriage. There are no fires burning for David, not even a spark .... it's a "thought" process and if you have to think about, it will never be love and I cannot begin to imagine someone as headstrong as Christy marrying without love. Plus David is more a boy - Doc is a man ... big big difference. I know I'd sure take Doc over David ANY day ... emerald or no emerald ... and that's a NICE sized emerald.
While IRL Christy married the pastor I think some of us, myself included, more the romance of a newcomer marrying a rugged mountain man, who has the sensiblities of modern man, ie Neil. LOL.
What makes you say she married the pastor in real life? In the books, she still married Doctor and the book is heavily based on real life. So, why would the writer copy most of the real life, but change who the husband is for the book? That doesn't make sense.
*a nervous teenage boy* I agree with teenage boy part and that alone is enough to repulse me. As for nervous part, I have to say I disagree. From what I could see from David so far, it seems like he only became interested in Christy because she was the only eligible female close to his age in the vicinity and most of the time he comes across like self-entitled child when it comes to her. There is nothing cute about watching them, most of the time when he's alone he also feels like he's one inch away from ravishing her in a storm of hormonal passions. Very unbecoming of a preacher. And as for Christy and Doc are concerned, like Dixie said, they are standing on equal footing, they bicker but in the end they grow together as people. And, everybody knows that there is nothing better than also being friends with your lover, too.
Okay I'm assuming I find this very offense of this is just beyond defensive because pretending to be a preacher pretending to bury a kid that's not even really dead are you get the fact that they're acting but the preacher not may not get that fact like I'm finding it offensive he might find it even more offensive than I find it offensive but I found an offensive first
I think it would be understood that the kids were just playing. As Christy said at the beginning, these kids see a lot of death and funerals are common in their lives. I don't find it offensive. I don't think a preacher would, either. They'd understand it was just play acting.
"Me, I used to enjoy life too, but then I got religion, and I don't enjoy life NO MORE. Praise the Lord!" I laugh every time I see that scene.

That first shot of the smoke rising from the valley… ❤
It’s so crazy how I was team David as a kid and did NOT like Neil at all but now I’m older and…the tables have turned 😆
Same here!
Me too!
I was just thinking this too. Lol
Same. Lol.
Her face scrams *Lord, I want this ring so bad, but just the ring and it sadly comes with this man attached!* to me...
You know it!!!
THank you so much for putting this series up
OMGosh!!! That was such a cute scene! AHH!! I loved it...
I had to replay it twice cause it was just too cute and irresistable
Courting did come first but I think the preacher believes he's been courting Christy since she got there.
That fact that she was unaware of him *courting* her screams a lot about how little chemistry there is between them. The girl is literally blind to him.
Wait....I thought courting came first and then the marriage proposal??? Now it's the marriage proposal and then you start courting? lol.
That's the way it was done in the old days.
Simple yet so deep.

1:20 Emily is really a great actress.

I like David also.

Okay i am SO team David but i do wish that they developed his and Christy's relationship more!!

@@MegaMilenche "Very unbecoming of a preacher."
It's very unbecoming of anyone. Why single out the preacher?
@16isminedonchaknow haha that part was sooo funny. They are all soo cute! :)
LUNDY!!! I missed him...
David was never right for Christy! Neil is perfect!
You said it....
Not quite the end of Christy
