Starting in 2011, I had severe spells of nausea, vomiting, and passing out that would come on suddenly and randomly after eating. It started with once a month in my 30s then after a few years these episodes could be 1-3 times a week and basically shut me down for 1-2 days. Id wake up with full body tingling like I was being hit with a cattle prod. After finding out that I have the MTHFR TT and MTRR AA (ironically from Rhonda's genetic services), I started taking a methylated B-complex, methylfolate, and alot of methyl b12. Results after just a few days -- 100% my symptoms were gone and that was over a year ago with no relapse. This information and vitamin therapy literally saved my life as I was becoming terrified to eat yet my doctors couldn't find anything. Cant stress enough how debilitating these episodes were and how radically different my life is once I gave my body what it needed to survive.

FoundMyFitness - Thank you! This is brilliant. I just read an article on sensorineural hearing loss and 5-MTHF in a Life Extension Magazine. But your discussion is more in-depth, hence allowing a much better understanding, not only of polymorphisms and 5, 10-methylenetetrahydrofolate plus supplementation of 5-MTHF, not only of how riboflavin (B2), pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (B6) and thiamine (e.g., benfotiamine) fit into the picture as co-enzymes, but of polymorphisms and everything else you discuss. Top post! !

Considering for example that sometimes there are more than one SNP involved in an specific disease or one SNP is in metabolic pathways associated with more that one disease or physiological process (ie. injuries, sports performance) . It is very important to consider that there is not enough information yet to personalized nutrition based on genetics for every health, sickness, etc profile. But is totally true that genetic tests are helpful to improve nutrition and supplementation strategies.

THANK YOU Dr. Patrick! I've been geeking your videos for a week, and I've learned a lot. LOVE your approach.
So all the SNPs you talked about in this video are in the 23andme?
How accurate and actionable is the data? The disease predictions are just correlations right? The SNP seems to be more actionable, as in take these supplements, eat this way ect..I'm I correct? Just having the gene doesn't mean its on though so I'm questioning the usefulness, what I'm missing?
I've been researching about the MTHFR and it seems like the pathways would be more usefull as it tells you whats actually going on in your body instead of just your genotype. Am I wrong?
So is it in fact possible to over methylate?
Thank you for all your work. I just subscribed.

I am just an average 45 year old guy that's at a point where I want to do something good for my health now and into the future after spending my youth pretty much abusing my body.Your podcast with Joe really brought home to me just how poorly educated I am and I dare say many others are about how to fuel and treat our bodies in order to have the best possible life both physically and mentally. I don't mind admitting that I find the prospect of educating myself about the different facets of health to be more than just a little intimidating, particularly when I have now become aware of just how little I know. Dr. Rhonda, would you please share your opinion on magnesium stearate, the flow agent manufacturers use for the making of supplements . One study shows there is nothing to worry about the next study shows there is great concern. When trying to balance my nutrients and diet I find this confusing when shopping for supplements.

Fro MTHFR if my ...1133 is good (CC) and only my ...1131 is bad (AC) am I still in the second category of 70% decrease?
Same with APOE4 if my ...358 is good (TT) and only my ...7412 is bad (CC) must both be bad for it to be bad?
Also I'd love for you to cover mold sensitivities and do 23andme show data on biotoxins, etc? Love your podcast!

Brilliant video and thank you so much for listing the rsid numbers! This is really fascinating to learn about highly useful!
I noticed that on the MTHFR gene, for rs1801133 my raw data is showing AA (in the video, it's either T or C) and for rs1801131 it's showing up as TT (in the video it's either A or C).
Did these numbers become switched around somehow?

    • @FoundMyFitness
      @FoundMyFitness  9 років тому +3

lucabrazi36 Luca, I used 23andMe for my data and ran it through Promethease. You can, however, use other testing companies and still use the Promethease interface (though, they may not test for the exact same SNPs).. 23andMe is just one option that does give you access to download your raw data.

Go to www.23andme.com and pay $99 for your saliva kit. Send the kit off and wait 4 - 6 weeks for the raw data to be available, then go to www.promethease.com/ondemandagreed and pay $5. Results are displayed almost immediately.

I wish to take advantage of 23 and me testing to determine a personalized nutrition plan. I looked the 23 and me website and saw that they have 2 levels of testing, Ancestry Service and Health and Ancestry. I wonder if the basic Ancestry testing have the raw data to use either Promethease or Found my Fitness? Since this video was released in 2015 I don't know if things have changed.

    • @DaveThomson

Regarding MTHFR: Supplementation with 480mcg of L-methyltetrahydrofolate? Do you mean 4800mcg? 480mcg is only .48mg (less than half a milligram). That is nowhere near enough to make any noticeable difference. I think you're confusing the 480mcg daily intake for folic acid
