Loved the progress!! A ratchet strap wrapped around the boat will make lifting the keel easier and safer…. Just a consideration.

I am so sorry this happened to you. The wide open cabin without a compression post is awesome.
Not sure if you've tried this or not, but MacGregor swing keel boats could sail themselves on a fixed heading relative to the wind once the keel was adjusted right. The wheel or tiller is tied off so it doesn't move, and you adjust your heading with the keel. Raising keel moves crosswind drag aft, turning the boat away from the wind and lowering the keel a bit turns the boat more toward the wind. Once tied off and trimmed, the boat sails itself by maintaining the same angle relative to the wind.
Fixed keel boats need a self-steering vane to do this, but keelboats can do it if the keel is far enough forward to let you balance the tendency of the wind to blow the bow or stern around.
My boat liked to turn side-on to the wind when adrift. In relatively calm water, it made a smooth spot on the upwind side that was like a window and you could see everything on the bottom clearly. We had a tiny drogue chute that would keep the bow into the waves if adrift in big waves where we didn't like the rocking of being side-on to waves.
The boat liked to wag back and forth at anchor instead of pointing into the wind as you'd expect. Not sure if a bow sprit or roller would have helped that. I think the anchor line going over one side of the pointy bow tended to turn the boat off the wind a bit and the hull acted enough like a sail for the boat to swing to one side. Momentum took it past the stable point and eventually it would move way off the wind and get pulled enough to turn and tack the other way. It never settled, it always tacked back and forth like that at anchor all day. Someone suggested a stern anchor to keep it just to one side of the wind would keep it in one place. It was kind of entertaining to have it move so we could see stuff on the bottom in a larger area around where we were anchored.

I think that due to them being different shapes, that's why id doesn't fit. But great job on cleaning it up.

Damn, it happens to the best of us. I’m worried mine will end up being too thick after my fairing and epoxy layers. We’ll find out…
