My thoughts on this video are: The next time anybody complains of the lack of an absurd number of megapixels , the absence of IBIS, or the must of ISO 50.000 and all the other useless ballast, watch this video and try to understand what Photography is all about. Great video, thanks for sharing !!
you made a lovely look at the work of GT. really appreciate the effort and the sharing. big thumbs up. film photography will survive. but convenience always trumps inconvenience, cost always decides over quality. there are still calligraphers and folks doing daguerreotypes it's all good.
Beautiful photographs including the ones from the Brownie. He had an eye early on. I love the full range of white to black in his photos. He also uses contrast extremely well. I find his water tower and gas station absolutely compelling that looming grey presence in the background! Tools may change but hauling about a 61 Mpixel camera still doesn't make one a photographer. Look at Tice's Brownie shots they are better than 50% of much of the post-processed digital stuff. Tice is a photographer not a "I got the latest gear" carrier.
I did film from 1979 till 1992, I also did all the process, from taking the picture to printing it on paper, also preparing the chemicals from raw. Film photography was special by the fact that you only had 36 frames, all the same ISO, and you never know the results until the film was developed. Anyway, I kinda miss those days, but I think I miss more that age rather than working with film :-)))). I think that this digital era give more opportunities, good pictures can be made (and are made) nowadays also. It's all about inspiration, talent and a bit of luck.
What are your thoughts on the art of film photography?
