    The 62MAS is one of Seiko’s most iconic divers. I was delighted when this model was released. I much prefer the case size and handset of this model to the previous generation SPB051J. Looking forward to the full review! 👍🏻😊

    If you like the looks check out the Bulova 98B 203...it looks very similar to this and came out about 4-5 years ago...yes the Bulova is a budget watch being a quartz and only 100 m water resistance...but a nice alternative.

    SEIKO J watches are completely made by robots in Malaysia or elsewhere in Asia with the J simply meaning that the staff that supervises production is Japanese. Thats it. K‘s supervision staff is Malaysian. Even JDM models ( only for the domestic market) are not ‚Made in Japan‘. Only the highest price point SEIKOs and Grand SEIKOs are ( partly hand) made in Japan as non insiders would understand that label.

      If you are willing to look at watches outside of Seiko, have a look at the Glycine Combat Sub. Saphire, screw down crown, 200m water resist, ETA2824 or Sellita SW200 depending on the year model, but basically the same Swiss movement. It's modified and some say are factory regulated. A lot of watch for the money and can be picked up well under $500 USD.

    • @gavanmitchell9095
      @gavanmitchell9095 3 роки тому

      @@silverghost4206 it does, yes. It's a renamed Sellita SW200-1, modified rotor and bearing and regulated. It's the same movement used in Oris, Baume and Mercier, and Sinn among many others. Some of these watches are well over $3000. It's a high beat (28,800) Swiss movement. Because it's a commonly used Swiss movement, come servicing time you won't have an issue finding someone to work on it or sourcing parts. Don't get me wrong, Orient are a well made and reliable watch and also awesome bang for buck! A great suggestion for anyone looking for an excellent value for money watch. With Seiko pricing themselves ever higher, I think Orient is starting to take their crown for best quality for the money in the Japanese watch market.

  • @LouisWinthorpe622
    @LouisWinthorpe622 3 роки тому +2

    For the money, I would like to have seen a better, closer, fit between the end links, case and lugs. Something more like that of my Longines Hydroconquest, would have been nice to see. I actually love the dials, markers and hands of these 62MAS recreations, which I've admired since seeing the less affordable SLA017 coming out.
    These ones piqued my interest when I heard and saw renders prior to release. But yet again, Seiko proves that, when they charge as much money for their watches as the Swiss, you are probably better off just buying something Swiss.
    (BTW: There is no point in any Seiko, spunk bucket, fanboys coming at me about my Hydroconquest. I know what it's shortcomings are. They are few. I also know from experience that the engineering tolerances in the end link to watch case and lug, fitment, are impressive and I was specifically talking about that: low tolerance, precision engineering. An area where, even the lower tier, Swiss Swatch group companies excel and one in which Seiko, unfortunately, is still lagging far behind in their maximisation of profit vs expenditure on design, machining and quality control. I've had my watch fan, Seiko fanboy, puberty period. It's over. Now I can see things for how they truly are).

      It's sort of an homage to Seiko's very first dive-watch, the 62 MAS. The lack of crown-guards is pretty typical for an old school diver, so I guess you could call it a retro-design-choice. Lots of early divers (late 50s/early 60s) didn't have crown-guards, either.

    It's a very nice looking watch and I was interested, until I looked at the accuracy. +25/-15 seconds per day just isn't good enough, I think unless they can match a the best of Swiss watches at 2-5 seconds per day they should stick to solar quartz or the spring drive. If I am gaining or losing 25 seconds per day then this useless as a timekeeping device because I only update my (eco-drive) watch every six months as the clocks change. By that point I am 77 hours out with this watch lol.

I selected one of each model with the lowest variance, bought them, got them regulated and they are now running around +5. If you get one that is accurate out of the box, that’s really just luck.

    I love the watch, good review, however you stated the bezel is as good as Rolex, and in the very next sentence mention that Seiko has QC issues and the bezels don’t align sometimes. For that very reason Seiko is not even in the same realm as Rolex, and I’m and owner and fan of both brands.

    • @TimeAndCrown
      @TimeAndCrown  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Alex. Thanks for watching. I state that the bezel action - clicks and sound - is not far from Rolex quality. I do not state that Seiko bezel action generally is on the same level as Rolex. I also also own both brands.
      Best regards,
      Anders

    • @alex_m_edc
      @alex_m_edc 3 роки тому

      Watch On fair enough. I didn’t mean to pick apart the review, I’m a fan! I see your point. If Seiko would only fix these small QC issues, I think their value and image could be on par with a company like Sinn, which I feel most watch fans would view as a step above Seiko, but they could be on that level.

    • @Emaratilfy
      @Emaratilfy 3 роки тому

      @@alex_m_edc no, not really. Sinn also has quirks. The clasp on the 104 is trash. The bracelet needs an upgrade and they don't produce their own movements like e.g. Seiko. The 104 case is also somewhat very basic and all polished. You want to go beyond a Seiko Prospex you move up to Grand Seiko. Also, even Rolex Submariners have QC issues. Watch Jody's video of a two toned Submariner that costs over $50k. It has a misaligned bezel insert and rehaut. No watch is perfect but I do acknowledge that Seiko could do a better job on their QC.

      Great options. They are two very nice options for a first watch. I would probably go for the Nomos as the first one. It’s more versatile. Then your second watch can be a diver. Happy hunting.

    The only 65mas replica I really liked from Seiko was the SLA037J1 with that smaller bezel and boxed date window. Unfortunately that one costs more than 6000 Euro's and was limited. Luckily there are some pretty good replica's to buy with an aligned bezel and Seiko inside. This one is nice but not nice enough for this price with the alignment issues I hear other people have.

    OK you know watches. I am having a hard time finding a watch to meet what I want. Maybe you can help. I am looking for the following:
    1. A chronograph watch
    2. 44mm bezel or bigger since I am a big man so 42 or less looks likes a women's watch on me.
    3. Tritium capsules so I always can see the watch, not just when the paint is charged with light.
    4. the ability to add NATO band, some case shapes don't allow for NATO straps
    5. Sapphire crystal glass
    6. Unidirectional or clockwise bezel movement, just not stationary.
    7. Under $900 American if possible.
    8. Decent company, not some off brand but maybe a Seiko. I have had there watches, good quality.
    It seems like I will find most things I want but not all and it SUCKS! :D Any ideas and I would appreciate it. Thank you.

    Had the choice of getting this watch but went for an Adina instead. Saved me $700. Also I liked the fact that Adina has the numeral face. It’s a lot easier to to check your dive time at 300 meters when you don’t have to think about what time it is.
