Yes, I like the hybrid as it only adds 60lbs over stock. After you add the winch, it will be around 120lbs which will reduce the stock height of the front by 1/4" - test done with young son who weighed 140lbs sitting gently on my edge of the hood :). The 2.5" Daystar spacer lift kit left the GX with very slight 1/4" rake (higher in front by 1/4") so this mod should level her out perfect! The reason I chose the hybrid over a hidden winch option was that it offered more protection as a bumper (obstacles and for vehicle safety in case of an accident), more access to the winch (do not need to reach in behind the grill), and has two recovery points built into the design (LFD Hybrid). A full metal bumper would weigh too much and sag my front end forcing me to upgrade the suspension. For what I do (forest roads in PA) - the hybrid was definitely the way to go! LFD makes an awesome product - easy install, fit perfect, great powder coat finish, and super heavy duty (see my unboxing video, if interested). I highly recommend!

Here are my constraints that I would like to address: (a) IP68, (b) Synthetic line primarily due to weight savings, (c) Stainless housing hardware, (d) able to relocate control box due to limited height, (e) 10K minimum (1.5 x 6600GVWR), but since synthetic requires several winds (5) around the drum to keep secure - 12K+ is probably better (max pull occurs with the line out as mech advantage decreases as you spool up), warranty length/type, and price. Right now the benchmark seems to be the Smittybilt 12K X20 Gen2. If a company were to reach out to me to test their winch and highlight it in a video, I would certainly consider it.

I just found this info - looks like a GX460 could go with either a 10K or 12K Smitty X20 Gen2. Not all winches pull the same (see the data).
@@johnwrightoverlandingrobotics The Smittybuilt x20 12k synthetic is the one we are going to gonwith when it's time. We have a friend that has a 10k of the same brand on his 4runner and he loves it and reports.food results. Please keep us posted 😃
