As a young car enthusiast who owns 3 older cars, I can happily say that all 3 cars plus maintenance and modifications have cost me less than what my friends have paid for their newer cars, I haven't had to take on any debt to purchase them, and insurance is cheaper. All for 3 cars that make me wayyy happier to drive.
New cars with all the new technology, luxury features, etc are going to age very poorly because many of those over-complex systems break over time. If you get a used car yes maybe the initial maintenance cost is a little bit higher, but you don’t owe $500 payments every month, and if you put work into something, you can be truly proud of it.

As i always say: The good tuning only adds extra things and never takes away. If you can find a part that performs better than the OEM version, it's not rice. You can put everything on your car, just do your research, and do it on the correct way. I spent 2 months to find myself the perfect set of aftermarket wheels. Yes, the main point was the visual appealance. But i checked other details like mass, best tire options etc... If you keep this simple hint you will never be a ricer.

Owner of 2 Subaru SVXs here. On the "if it's not factory it's rice thing". So right. So many factory parts don't even exist for it anymore. We HAVE to retrofit parts to keep our cars on the road. On the loud not equal fast. Our slowest car (95 Legacy wagon) is our loudest (fully straight piped). It sounds amazing and is fun to drive and we love it, but it obviously isn't any faster. No video has ever truly done it justice either. Also, love the way my SVXs sound despite how much quieter they are. And old cars, yeah, often waaaaaay more expensive to maintain, at least in the case of ones with rare parts. Regardless, I love old cars. They're just built differently. They have a different style to them. To each their own though. Enjoy what you have.
I am a big fan of valved exhaust systems, so Mustangs don't roll down my street at 4AM with the loud rumble of an unmuffled V8, but still sound glorious on the track.

I’m actually glad he brought up the new vs old car thing because more than price there is also a lot of cars you can’t get new that a lot of people prefer to own. Such as Supra’s. A mk 4 can very easily cost more than I paid for my 2021 vette. Same with most of older muscle cars. A lot of people also get old cars because they want to do an insane build that just wouldn’t make sense on anything new. Or they just want to beat a car to the ground. So big appreciation for him mentioning that just because your car is old doesn’t mean the owner has no money. It just means they want something different than you do.

Not really a car guy quite yet but I'm learning and starting to get into the off-road scene for a start. I have a 92 4runner that I'm beginning to learn on and mod over time, and the previous owner lost some bolts working on it over the years. Turns out I'm a ricer, who knew!
Personally, I like tastefully loud cars... that being said, there are some very annoying cars/trucks in my area where the drivers like to slow down and floor it to hear their exhaust, and I hate those people with a passion.

One thing I will say is I hate cars being SUPER loud when they're going like 20 mph, I do like a purr and whatnot, but if it's super loud and not going fast, I feel like it's obnoxious to me

Older cars make for better project cars tbh, mostly because you can use new parts to fix up what is old on the car. Thats the mind set I get whenever I see someone with an older car. Then again not everyone thinks the same as me

Honestly, these lines (except the OEM parts one) sounds like something that would come out of some normie's/non-carguy's mouth. A real car enthusiast would never say something like "old car equals trash car for poor people" or "why buy a car if you're changing it anyway". That's so stupid on so many levels...

Owner of 2 Subaru SVXs here. On the "if it's not factory it's rice thing". So right. So many factory parts don't even exist for it anymore. We HAVE to retrofit parts to keep our cars on the road.
On the loud not equal fast. Our slowest car (95 Legacy wagon) is our loudest (fully straight piped). It sounds amazing and is fun to drive and we love it, but it obviously isn't any faster. No video has ever truly done it justice either. Also, love the way my SVXs sound despite how much quieter they are.
And old cars, yeah, often waaaaaay more expensive to maintain, at least in the case of ones with rare parts. Regardless, I love old cars. They're just built differently. They have a different style to them. To each their own though. Enjoy what you have.

an addition to the loud cars part, alot of people hear a loud car and say things like "ur not impressing anyone", as in that person just deleted their muffler all to impress u when its not the case

I’m actually glad he brought up the new vs old car thing because more than price there is also a lot of cars you can’t get new that a lot of people prefer to own. Such as Supra’s. A mk 4 can very easily cost more than I paid for my 2021 vette. Same with most of older muscle cars. A lot of people also get old cars because they want to do an insane build that just wouldn’t make sense on anything new. Or they just want to beat a car to the ground. So big appreciation for him mentioning that just because your car is old doesn’t mean the owner has no money. It just means they want something different than you do.
