Their own fault, when orders adopt street clothes, young girls won't join, the order that kept habits have no problem recruiting. Contemplative orders have the most new recruits.

And you STILL can’t figure out where you went wrong. The answer’s an easy one: the day you decided to secularize. That was the beginning of the end. Goodbye, good women. Sad. Tragic.

Had they kept the habit they may have attracted new recruits. Orders that are more traditional have less issues with dwindling numbers.

It wasn't only discarding the religious habit. It was also discarding a common apostolate (usually teaching), discarding communal living in convents, and discarding the traditional interpretation of poverty, chastity, and obedience (the vows). All this discarding business happened quite quickly (roughly between 1965 to 1975). Many orders have not seen a postulant or novice in half a century, with the average age of sisters now well over 65. Just a matter of time until even the retired sisters are just a memory. Very sad.

They committed suicide when they drank the Kool aid of the 1960s. Sad

And pray, why are communities with the Latin mass and who keep their vows and constitutions and wear the holy habit still have enough vocations to expand?

I agree with a lot of the comments that are on this page if the nuns would have kept the traditional habit they would have kept on doing what they were supposed to do teach help the poor not going to take her clothes like other people the Dominicans in Tennessee they have a lot of vocation because they kept their habit they modified it a little bit but at least you know they're nuns when they took the Habit off where is the vow of. Poverty

Wearing the habit has its lure to men and women. Look at the Dominican Sister Mother of the Eucharist. One monastery started with 4 nuns in habits and grew to 200 nuns in habits in ten years.

I would hope that the sale of their huge property ( mortgage free?) would pay for a smaller facility for the remaining nuns that would include proper care/nursing and a comfortable conclusion.

From 180,000 to less than 47,000...Wow!😬😲 It's sad but also good that they lost convents, because they aren't catholic. Real catholic communities should buy these convents.

In contrast, the Nashville Dominicans enlarged their motherhouse a few years ago to accommodate all the new entrants.

The Catholic Church is the wealthiest entity in the world. Why can't they take care of this?

Educate yourself! Each religious congregation supports itself.

Clergy and Religious were too busy and corrupted by Vatican II reforms.
