I experimented this some week ago for a podcast. I'm designing to turn it into Atos. The resulting voices are more natural on both: with headset and also with speakers. By exporting into HRF and send it via radio and by podcast platforms, it makes the Listener experience way more interesting.

Fiedler Composer supports Dolby's personalized HRTF for binaural monitoring too, can be an improvement for some users I think.

Although this feature is interesting, we recommend not to use it for mixing because only you have your profile but most people do not use it or have their own. The binaural feature of Atmos is a reproduction format, not only for monitoring.

Anyway we can monitor like what Apple Music does to the atmos mixs without using a Mac or logic ?

For that you first need to convert your ADM/BWF file to mp4 and then listen to it on an Apple Music capable device. Currently there are two ways of converting to mp4, either using the DAR or through Amazon Web Services. It is still a major PITA and unfortunately we all depend on Apple to make it easier for all of us.

I listened with two diferent headphones and they both sounded like the sound was moving around the top of my head. Very three dimensional , but not what I expected.

What exactly does Apple Music do? Does it set everything to, say, Mid? Or is it like turning Binaural Mode to Off? I'm not clear on what happens in Apple Music. Thx

Hi Rob, it is different from what you can adjust in Atmos. They binauralize every channel with the same setting, I guess it is something like mid. But since they use a different algorithm than Dolby, it of course sounds different.

@@fiedler-audio Great answer, thanks. Am I right in saying the binaural modes included in Fielder are Dolbys own binaural modes / algos? Also, if you're listening on a real ATMOS system with say, 9.1.6 speakers and using Apple Music, I assume it's not stupid enough to apply their binauralisation, considering you actually have the physical speakers and you're not listening on AirPods, etc? Thanks very much.

@@frozenmist8873 The algorithm in the Composer is legit Dolby Atmos, including the binaural part. And no, of course binauralization is not applied to speaker reproduction. So no worries.

Binauralization parameters in DAW apply only to the Dolby AC4-IMS codec, which is supported by Android devices that support Dolby Atmos. The AC4 codec is available in Tidal and Amazon Music streaming services. Since Apple uses the E-AC-3 JOC codec, the binaural settings that are set in the DAW do not apply to it. So this is probably something like Mid for all objects when E-AC-3 JOC plays in binaural format through headphones.

Hopefully @AppleMusic will fix this and quit making every thing so simply complicated and frustrating.
