+Mattie Smith I have a mortar & pestle, and I gave my reasons, why I don't like using it in the video. Whatever works use it, I wasn't trying to twist your arm in switching to this method. This is just a how to video my way. Tfw & take care
Yes, indeed. But unfortunately, I still buy colored acrylics powders, cause some colors I can't make, or don't want to bother to make, lol. But don't get me wrong making it is way cheaper, Tfw & take care
DaWanda, it is so refreshing to sit and watch a video with out a bunch of loud music and crazy movements! Hey, if you have a walmart, or dollar tree near you, they have the little bitty spatulas. I found mine at walmart!
I’m glad, cause sometime the music can be annoying if it’s to loud, or obnoxious, thank you for the info on the spatulas. I love little bitty anything. It’s annoyingly wrong working with something to big for space you in, lol, Tfw
+DaWanda Barton a really don't know if it is maybe uf a add bottom and top coat . a will give it a wee bash even if its just to make 3d jems for the nails
Yes ma'am, that wouldn't hurt to give a try, long as you test it out on the base coat, keep me posted, if your idea is a success. Thanks for the info, I'm going to research porcelain paint, to see all the things you can use it for. Take care
Yes, that is realistic, but pigments shadows can be clumpy and when you do it that way, you are still left with specks of unmixed pigment. I hope you this answer helped. Tfw
+mtlycru85 you can use any glitter or pigment, but the amount of acrylic matters. I always use double side measuring spoon, the pig end for the acrylic & the glitter or pigment or both together measure or fits in the small side. I hope this helped, good luck. Tfw & take care
Hi, it's really not a ratio,it's about how light or dark you want the color, but you must have more acrylic powder then pigment. Example start off with 1oz of clear or natural acrylic power to 3 pinches of pigment. Continue checking your ball consistency, when applied it's smooth and opaque as it flows well as you pat down the nail, not gritty lumps of just to much pigment. Write down what you did, so you can remember for further making. I can't Determine your ratio on pigments, because the pigment formula potency you are using might be different, eyeshadow, chalk, pure pigments. It's easier to mix glitter with any ratio because their sparsely, but pigments are more densely and require eyeballing pinch here and there until you get the result you are looking for. I hope this info helped you in some way. Tfw & take care.
👏, thanks for the compliment, and I do understand where you are coming from. We are out of the box thinkers. Don’t matter how hard or time consuming it is. The things I come up with, it’s like take it or leave it, but this is just how I see it will be done, and this the way it’s going to be, lol. I’m glad you did enjoyed. Take care & tfw.
Can you put the link where you purchased the shany eyeshadow pigments please? And also have you ever experienced any lifting from making the colored acryllic this way?
Shany link www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002RGMI6Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 no lifting if you prep the nail correctly, that with any product you altered. Tfw
You only want to use white to make a light color more vibrant, or a light color opaque, also white is so hard to mix well so I use natural instead for opaqueness. Tfw
Good luck, and congratulations on your first step in the nail world. just Stick with it & eye ball all the tips and tricks from other students and teachers, learn everything, and ask why and how, every chance you get. Take care
I know I bought these years ago. I bought these eye shadow loose pigments on Amazon, love them. Try in the search on amazon, by Shany Loose eye shadow Pigments. Tfw
Great video. I just noticed this video is a few months old.. I hope u still around lol making more videos. but i did like the glass where u did ur acrilic mixes..Where can i find it??. N thank you..
Hi, I'm glad you did enjoy. I bought it at Walmart in the bathroom accessories department. Im guessing it's a glass tray to store your loose jewelry, etc. before you take a bath/shower. Tfw
LOL, chop it up! I am picking, but I was thinking the same thing as you said it. Kinda creepy that we were thinking the same thing. Thanks for sharing. Such pretty colors!. :-)
+DaWanda Barton have you ever tried using chalk to make colors? I really like your pigment idea but I saw other vids on using chalk. idk bout that idea tho cuz when I think about it I think of how dry chalk is and then I picture that on my nails and my nails feeling all dry and it makes me cringe like nails on a chalkboard. lol but idk I never tried! lmk if you know anything about it!
It work the same or even better, as the ones buy mixed, already. Also, depends on the quality of your mixing products. I'm just saving money doing it this way, and I get more or less however much I want to mix, hoped that helped. Tfw
I used a pestle and mortar and it worked perfect for me! I lined the mortar with parchment paper and when done mixing just took the paper out and poured the acrylic into my jars!
You only want to use white to make a light color more vibrant, or a light color opaque, also white is so hard to mix well so I use natural instead for opaqueness. Also if you don't want a translucent base using clear, I use natural instead. Tfw
Love how this turned out, I have just bought chalk to try it too, never knew you could use pigments, probably a lot cheaper than the chalk I bought, I maybe look for cheap pigment, TFS :)
Yes ma'am, but I think chalk is cheaper, I like to use eyeshadow loose pigments, which I am using in this video. This is also a good technique for using chalk it smooths better, then in a mortar, because it get stuck in the groove. It's hell to keep cleaning out through each color. Tfw
I would love to know how, but the only way to know how to make acrylic powder you have to no chemistry that deal with the composition and properties of substances and various forms of matter, which I do not, sorry. Tfw
do u not like to use 1 of them pestal n mortar or whatever their called lol also why do u use more pigment... just i see people do it and add a tiny bit 😕 im new to doing this so sorry for questions lol great video thou xx
+THE GLITTER PIXIE I like to use a lot pigment so when I place it on the nail, I don't want to see any separation of the acrylic and pigment. Only pigment straight through. The mortar is to small and round. You can't really see all the pigments being smashed, like a flat surface, and it stains and hard to clean. Since it has grooves pieces of pigments get stuck. Really a pain. Tfw & hopefully I answered your questions.
+THE GLITTER PIXIE you can buy the spatula at hobby lobby or Michael's in the paint department, it's a handy tool for smashing and smoothing the pigments into the acrylic on a flat surface. I hope it benefits you as much as me. Trust, I don't waste time posting video if it don't works for me. Take care.
+THE GLITTER PIXIE it's actually called a palette paint knife, should be at any craft store in the paint department. www.walmart.com/ip/42741734?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227030596095&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=t&wl3=55984104536&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=99968827736&veh=sem
Nooooo! You did NOT go there Dee!😅 "Say NO to Drugs" INDEED! & I'm a smidge late, I know, but that amazing thing called life keeps happening. Thk Goodness! #BingeWatching Many thanks for this HowTo! Been on acrylic hiatus, loving gels/stamping/foils/& the neverending "next big things" in Nailart. This reignited acryliclove. It just works with EVERYTHANG? (But ooohh, my wallet is mad at Mee!) 💜💚
+ZOË HARGROVE that's ok, thanks for the support. I know about the wallet, I need to kick my own butt, sometimes. I wish my husband can tie my hands up at night before he goes to sleep, so I won't be stalking the Internet, lol. Tfw & take care.
Omg I am so glad I ran across your videos on UA-cam. I have been wondering how to mix the acrylic with glitter. I watched you on another video that shows how you do it. I'm very new to doing my own nails, and to watch this has really helped me. I had no clue you could use eye shadow pigments. Thanks so much this will save me tons of money on ordering new premixed colored acrylics.
Yes, ma’am, when viewer watch, they think I’m using a pure pigment put it’s not, and shaking it up won’t do, it has to be smashed, or mortared. Cause it’s has other binding agents in it. I’m glad this video benefited you, Tfw & take care.
Yes it does work, but the color changing is a pain. Glass vs ceramic that will stain and it has grooves, which the color gets stuck. You would have to take it to the sink every time. Tfw & take care.
Thank u girl! You've just saved me literally THOUSANDS on colored acrylics!
Yay! I’m glad the video was beneficial, Tfw
Omg I have 10 jars of that powder for an art project.. Im for sure gonna try this! Thank you!
Awesome, let me if it worked for you, Tfw
FYI: It's easier to use a mortar and pestle for mixing pigments and acrylics. Simple, quick and easy. Give it a try.
+Mattie Smith I have a mortar & pestle, and I gave my reasons, why I don't like using it in the video. Whatever works use it, I wasn't trying to twist your arm in switching to this method. This is just a how to video my way. Tfw & take care
Watching April 2021 😁 and this is helpful self teaching in the making lol thank you..
You did an awesome job... I cant wait to try this... Thanks for sharing.. Them blues came out really pretty😍😍
Awesome, I’m glad it was beneficial to you. You will like the results. Tfw
Were do u get your products from
DaWanda, those colors are beautiful!
I love this! I'm so glad there's a way to make colors bc I was not trying to have to buy a million diff acrylic powders.
Yes, indeed. But unfortunately, I still buy colored acrylics powders, cause some colors I can't make, or don't want to bother to make, lol. But don't get me wrong making it is way cheaper, Tfw & take care
thank you so much im new to doing nails and i have been looking for color acrylic now i know what to do thank you
+Stephanie Ruffin I'm glad you did benefited from the video, happy mixing. Tfw & take care.
Great tip thanks for sharing and showing luv xoxo 💅💕💕💕
Loved your video you can use a mortar and pestle to grind the colors together love the finished product
I Do have a mortar, but it’s a pain it’s to clean. Tfw & take care
Love the colours. You should do an ombre with these colours
Yes, the colors palette is perfect for doing ombré, will give it a try. Tfw & take care
You used clear acrylic powder and pigment right ? No white acrylic powder?
Hi, I used natural powder and pigment. Tfw
DaWanda, it is so refreshing to sit and watch a video with out a bunch of loud music and crazy movements! Hey, if you have a walmart, or dollar tree near you, they have the little bitty spatulas. I found mine at walmart!

What's that professional powder is that for glitter mixes.
I have hundreds off pounds off porcelain paint its loose powered do u think that will work
Sorry, I've never tried that on nails. Wondering if it's safe to put on the body.
Take care
I would look into the toxicity, but Porcelain has been used on nails for years.
Why dont you just put both powders in one tube and shake and roll the tube until it's mixed correctly
Yes, that is realistic, but pigments shadows can be clumpy and when you do it that way, you are still left with specks of unmixed pigment. I hope you this answer helped. Tfw
can you use like a matte pearl glitter etc pigment to mix? and does it have any affect on how well the acrylic works after being mixed?
+mtlycru85 you can use any glitter or pigment, but the amount of acrylic matters. I always use double side measuring spoon, the pig end for the acrylic & the glitter or pigment or both together measure or fits in the small side. I hope this helped, good luck. Tfw & take care
+DaWanda Barton okay thank you!!
im going to try this with a dollar store pill grinder
That's a good idea, too. I haven't tried it that way. Keep me posted if it works, well. Tfw
Yessssss that a a great idea!
hi love your video thanks for sharing. could you please tell us the ratio of how much of clear acrylic and how much of the pigment? thank you
Hi, it's really not a ratio,it's about how light or dark you want the color, but you must have more acrylic powder then pigment. I love how you work and do things..lol Idk why. You just got the way about yourself that I can see me doin and bein like to lol.
👏, thanks for the compliment, and I do understand where you are coming from. We are out of the box thinkers. Don’t matter how hard or time consuming it is. Hi. what color acrylic powder do you use? clear or natural? can I use white also? I'm a nail tech student! (:
You only want to use white to make a light color more vibrant, or a light color opaque, also white is so hard to mix well so I use natural instead for opaqueness. Tfw
Awesome. Good to know. Thanks!
Good luck, and congratulations on your first step in the nail world. just Stick with it & eye ball all the tips and tricks from other students and teachers, learn everything, and ask why and how, every chance you get. Take care
+DaWanda Barton Thank you so much. UA-cam is a great way to learn as well. Thanks for your videos. you have a new subscriber!
I went to the shanty sight to get some of their pigments and I couldn't find them. Could you please tell me how they are listed on their sight?
I know I bought these years ago. I bought these eye shadow loose pigments on Amazon, love them. Try in the search on amazon, by Shany Loose eye shadow Pigments. Tfw
You can use a food strainer to catch any little balls
Yes ma’am, Ive tried that too, 😩but I really don’t like cleaning it between color. Thanks for your feedback, Tfw & take care.
Great video. I just noticed this video is a few months old.. I hope u still around lol making more videos. but i did like the glass where u did ur acrilic mixes..Where can i find it??. N thank you..

+Lena Payne ha, lol. That's ok, I love humor. Great minds think alike, so guess what; were not crazy. Tfw
LOL, or maybe we are. ;) In a good way! Hugs!
So how to do you make the color darker do you just add more of the pigment?
Black makes a color darker, white makes a color lighter. Do pinches at a time to get the shade you are looking for. Tfw and take care
Can you add glitter to these?
Yes ma’am, sorry for the late response, Tfw & take care
@@DaWandaBarton no worries I know you are busy and the to add the holidays on top of that😝
+DaWanda Barton have you ever tried using chalk to make colors? Yes, I've tried, but I don't like the look of it, either. It really looks chalky, not silky, that's just my opinion. good luck on making it, tfw
The colors came out beautiful!! Tfs - xoxo Emmie
+PrettyThingsRock they did, I'm glad you liked. Tfw
hi, does this work the same? does it effect the consistensy?
It work the same or even better, as the ones buy mixed, already. Also, depends on the quality of your mixing products. I'm just saving money doing it this way, and I get more or less however much I want to mix, hoped that helped. Tfw
+DaWanda Barton thank you😊

Awesome, I thank you for your time and support, Tfw & take care
Have you tried mixing your acrylic powders with your pigments with a pestle and mortar? I think that may be easier for you and quicker x
Yes, I have but the exchanging color is harder, and to get the pestle and mortar clean, stains. Tfw
I used a pestle and mortar and it worked perfect for me! I lined the mortar with parchment paper and when done mixing just took the paper out and poured the acrylic into my jars!
What brand is your tub of acrylic
Diva D.C. Natural, tfw
oh ok thank you so much 😘
ways the difrence between using natural powder and using white? dose the natural lend a opek effect?
You only want to use white to make a light color more vibrant, or a light color opaque, also white is so hard to mix well so I use natural instead for opaqueness. Also if you don't want a translucent base using clear, I use natural instead. Tfw

how can you make the actual acrylic power plz reply!!

Thank you.. great video
+Nail Art Queen Hi, you. I'm glad you enjoyed. Tfw
Awesome 😉
👏, I’m glad you did enjoyed, Tfw
I’m going to try with a mortar and pistol with the pigment
Yes it does work, but the color changing is a pain. Glass vs ceramic that will stain and it has grooves, which the color gets stuck. You would have to take it to the sink every time. Tfw & take care.
Maybe using a flour sifter 🤗☺️🤗☺️
I wish they would come smaller and I definitely would, lol 💡
when you say pigments do you mean makeup pigment like eye-shadow?
Yes, loose eyeshadow pigments. Tfw & take care
Thank you! You too as well.
oooohhhhh, i have a bunch of them! YAY! I was hoping that's what you meant!
nice
+moeevehouston Tfw
Yeah I was about to say looks like your getting something that your not supposed to lol
I'm sorry, I went back and viewed the video to get an answer to your comment. I still don't know what you are referring, too. Tfw
YTGurls lh
DaWanda Barton I think she's talking about the part where you say don't do drugs n all that.
You could've just mixed them in a jar
Why not just put it in a jar with a lid and shake it...🤔🤷
The way you do it take way to long
To many steps for no reason
waste of time 👎👎👎
Wat r those colored powders u used and is it a gd idea to use powdered tye dyes too
Hi those colors are loose pigment eyeshadows, I would only use dye powders if that are harmless & safe to use human skin. Tfw
