  • Here's the first movement of the famous Grøndahl "Concerto for Trombone" with Megan Gale on piano! The piece was written by Danish composer Launy Grøndahl in 1924 while on sojourn in Italy.
The Grøndahl Concerto is probably my favorite standard concerto for trombone, which is why I've taken so long to post it for the Standard Repertoire Project. I was a little intimidated to put my version of this piece out into the world, mainly because I love it so much and respect all the wonderful versions that already exist out there. But I also want to normalize sharing the music we make, reject using comparison as our primary decision-making tool, and lean into the idea that it's not about who makes the "best" recording of any piece. It's about putting beauty and intentionality and joy out into the world, because you never know who it's going to help or impact. Which is the whole reason I'm doing this project in the first place!
I had an awesome time recording it with the amazing Megan Gale. Kevin Edlin was the engineer for this, and Nick Laufer produced. The video was done by Continuous Motion Productions.
    Thanks for listening!

By far the best rendition. You highlighted all the details that other trombonists didn't. The second best is Christian Lindberg's live. This is the best and most detailed one

Really appreciate your willingness to share your own thoughts and feelings about putting yourself out there. If someone as skilled as you feels that way, it validates my own insecurities. And additionally you sound fantastic 👏

Beautifully done! Had the privilege of performing it myself years ago before anyone (at least on the west coast) had heard of it.

You display an articulation "TOUR DE FORCE" in the first minute! What fine subtleties throughout. You sound effortless, I know you've heard that before but it's evident in your playing.
    Bravo!
