      Hey Gaku. Do you think you can cover this tutorial in Davinci Resolve? The challenge here is that it doesn't support .gif files. I've somewhat tried using the aligned JPGs and use a "smooth cut" video transition in between them, with a 0.04s delay between each JPG on a 24p timeline and here's the result: photos.app.goo.gl/kEZSpdaPvRMkWqSw7
      Pretty unsatisfied with the results but if you could help achieve a better look with Davinci, I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks

    Nice tutorial!
    A note from me: I would import my full size images in After Effects as single images, align them there in a comp, nest the comp, put it in another comp and say this comp to do optical flow. The advantages here are, that you can easily do it in one program only, the quality will be a lot better (GIF is not a quality-preserving data format) and you can easily adjust the length of each single frame by getting back into the original layout comp. The problem with GIF is the limited amount of colors shown in the image and as said before, its not made to preserve quality. Also, I would recommend to not render your clip out of premiere as H.264 and import again, as H.264 is also not the best format to re-edit again (would recommend ProRes 422 or just nest the nest again and adjust the speed there!)
    But a really good to understand tutorial, loved it!

      how do I get the optical flow effect in after effects though?

    • @nichoschmees
      @nichoschmees Рік тому +12

      @@tormint5294 right click onto the clip/comp in your timeline which should get the optical flow, choose "frame blending" and then "pixel motion". That is equal to optical flow, I don't know, why Adobe calls it different in different programs :D
      I hope all steps are translated correctly as my AE is in german.. But googling "frame blending After Effects" brings me to the right tutorials :)

    Considering that you’re setting the gif to 0.12s, which is 5 frame per second I’d change premiere settings.
    optical flow works better with multiplied frame interpolation, so setting it to 25 frames will give you slightly better results and less artf**ing 😊

    • @relaythebrand
      @relaythebrand Рік тому +5

      yes you could just drag the whole psd file and load it up on you sequence as layers

    • @GakuLange

      You can! I do this purely due to habit and work flow - it's something I've gotten used to that helps for timing in my final video outputs.

    cool, but i cannot understand why you would destroy the quality by decimating it to 256 colors and dithering, THEN bring it into premiere. Why not just save the 4 full quality frames, THEN bring them into premiere, nest them, then decrease the speed and interpolate the frames and give premiere the full quality image to work with? probably would get better results that way with any method of frame interpolation
