This is one of those videos I wish I had worded better. I made this video because for the past couple years I’ve gotten daily messages pretty much saying “My life is in ruins, I have no goals, can you help me go to Syria or Ukraine”. It’s a serious choice that I could never give advice on without knowing someone, so I wanted to show in this video that there are other options. If you don’t have a family, if you aren’t being depended on, these are some interesting things you can do instead of combat. Really hope you got the message right ❤️
If I weren't married AND had relevant training to help Ukraine I would have been there by now. As it stands I would most likely just be in the way and I recognize that. People asking you for advice on ways to 'start over' should maybe consider the French Foreign Legion. They can start over and gain experience in warfare their. Cheers!
OMG, I spent most my adult life traveling around the world. I would say around 90% of the people I have met traveling, can't handle it for more than a month or two. I am not talking about war, or even dangerous places. Just staying in hostels or hotels, in a foriegn country, speaking a foreign language, partying with some people you meet. Just all around being able to adapt to new situations. A war zone is not the place to try and get the hang of a new culture and language, while trying to "find yourself".
I know a guy who travels through Africa ALONE, by car. I respect the guy but at this point in life i can confidently say i would not be able to go with him on that journey. He has over a decade of experience knowing how to make friends there and how to not get shot or kidnapped. I'm fine with my life where i am, and thats okay. My regular hiking in the forest is some kind of wild crazy thing to some people i know.
People who go travelling generally are pretty unhappy and lost in life i find. Yeah its great to see these places but isn't even better to raise a family and hold down a steady job?
I'm one of those people who wants to go to Ukraine and asked for advice :) Just for the record, I want to say, I have been thinking about going to Ukraine since the war began. I've been talking to my friend who was in the marines about it for months, saying how I want to go. Not necessarily to do combat, but to help out. This is before I found your channel. You didn't recruit me. It's just something I've felt the need to do for a while and I don't know how to go about doing stuff to help or what I should expect. This isn't to put you down, it's just to explain that even when you get those messages, you may have not convinced them or even inspired them, you're just someone who has been there and done that. I love what you do and massively respect that you felt the need to make this video though
@@Chris-tn9zx similar to my other reply: Because I have morals. I don't wanna fight just to fight. I don't wanna go into a warzone just because. I have a set of morals and values. The US military does not match my morals and values. I don't want to go to a desert and tell the people that I am totally not there to occupy them. That this isn't some imperialist mission. I also don't want to sit in a base and train for nothing while there are people out there who need help.
I didn't have the luxury of joining the military, but I wanted to... What I mean by this is... my dad died when I was 15. I dropped out of High-School and started working right away to help my mom. I got my HSE when I was 17 and went to college later in life. My brother had renal failure and had been battling with related medical issues since he was 6 years old. He was on dialysis 3 times a week before his recent transplant. My family has experienced a lot of death. I don't have my grandparents, my kids will never meet their great grandparents or their grandfather. I think joining the military or fighting another country's conflict would probably be the most selfish thing I could ever do to my remaining family at this current time. I think about it a lot, and how things would be if my life turned out differently. I was someone that wished I could do what Civ Div did and make a name for myself. I was angry at life, I'm still angry. That being said, I always come to the same conclusion. Young men, you have nothing to prove to anyone. War isn't a gateway to manhood. It's a horrible event where all sides experience loss. Whatever guidance you're seeking, war isn't going to offer it. That's all I have to say.
I think you're wrong in the fact that war doesnt guide you to manhood. It may not guide you to manhood but it probably teaches you alot about your inner self, your real you, who you are. In your case however you're right, you had no choice, you could've abandoned your family to try and become a soldier or marine or whatever and go to combat but then If you're a compassionate person that would destroy your concious, you did the right thing by sticking with your family through the hardships and being there to aid in all the support.
Got an own story to share that somewhat relates to the video. A friend of mine went AWOL to help in Ukraine. It was a decision understood and respected by quite a lot of folks in his circle, including some of his superiors, but it essentially ruined a stable military career. In addition to that, yes, he had training, but not the type that was really needed there - leading to him carrying sand bags for a couple months. Many people who want to do this sort of thing have no prior military experience. I understand where you're coming from. It's noble to see a horrible situation and to want to help. But unless you know what you're doing and have good experience, you will probably help more by staying home, donating and raising awareness. And life's short enough as it is.

I spent 9 years in combat in the Middle East . I was wounded & im disabled from a RPG and other things . If you think this is what you want to do because “it’s cool “ you are special. Everyday is incredibly difficult for me now because of what I put my body through. After all that the real battles started . Trust me life after combat ain’t no picnic even if shit went well .
@fudgepacker2858 I have to point out almost everyone in the Infantry I've met, including hardened combat veterans, joined because they think it's cool. I've had Drill Sergeants admit feeling the same way. Same reason a lot of people try out for Special Forces. Being "cool" is a powerful motivator. Young men want to stand out among their peers and honestly I think it's bad to shame people for it. That is what bootcamp is for. So that even the dumv kids who join because they're inspired by video games can be trained into professional, mature, combat personnel.
@@fudgepacker2858 Did 6 years in the military, a lot of guys in 'combat' jobs definitely picked the combat jobs because they thought it was 'cooler' or more 'bad ass' than a job that actually taught you skills that could directly translate into the civilian working world. Not saying those combat jobs can't translate, it's just not as easily translated. A mechanic can get out and become a mechanic or engineer, same with firefighter, hvac guy, etc. Not sure if that makes sense.

Loved my van, used the time to listen to pods coming out of Syria and Sinjar. Saw a lot, loved being free, but didnt save enough to replace it when a drunk driver smashed into it. Now I work defense, but, getting an adventure van for weekenders again.
I'm guessing in his case, during his time in the Marines, he actually saved money, like - ate at the chow hall regularly (free / cheap food on base), didn't blow his check every month on strip clubs or just piles of unnecessary shit, got deployed (where there's not much to spend your checks on, and the pay gets higher, tax free)... do stuff like this, and you'll have a freakin big pile of cash after a few years, even without investing in CD's or more complicated stuff. Still, yeah, I'd be interested to hear any thoughts he has. He probably gave good tips in his old travel videos, too, if those are available. Edit: "Do stuff like this and..." you'll have a big pile of cash, or be very sadly damaged, or both.
I am from Spain, married and father of three kids. I started watching your videos because of the war action. But I have come to see that there is more than action in them. There are thoughts and things you do that inspire me. Wouldnt know what it is, but your vision of life fits mine. Be a good person. And it really gives me hope to see that there is young people with values, with ethics. Thank you and keep posting videos about whatever you want. There is always some comment, or phrase, or image, that makes us think. And that, my friend, is a gift.

To me, you're an unique individual, able to endure so much physically, but more important, the mental game of this crazy thing we call WAR. I don't understand how airsoft enthusiasts think they can take on combat roles without formal training. Never mind mentally, while out in trenches for days taking indirect enemy fire that doesn't get you to put your hand up saying "Hit" but rather a mist splattered on the ground.
Taiwan treats American passports super good . I always encourage people that have American passports and say go live abroad and see how great people treat Americans and how loved we are !
Taiwan is a great place to travel indeed. people spoke English overwhelmed with concern as I didn't speak the language, I kept saying it doesn't matter as I can always smile and mime my way to food or accommodation but they infallibly went out of their way to give me lifts, buy me tea, make sure my hotel was not overcharging (they never did) & apologize for not speaking English, in really good English. it was funny and charming in equal measure. fantastic place to travel

Followers are like "but i won 5 chicken dinners in a row on PUBG. Why cant I volunteer"? Definitely want to go there and help rebuild around the cities or other civilian volunteer work. I do meet Ukrainian's requirements to volunteer but i definitely have no business on the front lines.
I do not want to be like you, but I do want to have a lot of traits that you have man. Your videos truly inspire me and you make me want to work on myself. Thanks to your videos I've realized that I do not need to have a goal in life yet, just not being a dmb-ass idiot and experiencing life and most importantly value what WE have and that we should be grateful for what our ancestors have done for us and most importantly what our heroes are doing to keep and maintain our FREE lives!

Gave me some insight to weigh decisions, but I'll say this for everyone else - if you can be so easily swayed by a guy on UA-cam - imagine how convincing incoming artillery will be to dissuade you. If you're not 130% sure you CAN do it - *don't*. It's not a game.
Thank you for your Message. PLEASE....anyone who wants to go to Ukraine. GO and volunteer your services but not as a soldier. IF you went to know what 2/10 feels like as a soldier just join your local Infantry Reserve Unit. Get wet, cold, and tired and then figure out if you love it. IF YOU DO, stay in 5 years minimum and maybe then consider full time in the Army. Because guess what.. the Artillery finds you / 'or not' regardless of how good you are. On the van topic. I love rock climbing bought a 2000$ town and country and love spending all my free time in it. Climbing chilling with friends being in nature being alone. All of it. Its a war against yourself sometimes in the mountains.
Since the war began and before i found your channel, i wanted to help out. Its horrible whats happening. When i tried to join the foreigners army you had to be (i think 21 or 18), and had to have combat experence or mil training,both of them i dont have, so i didnt go to Ukraine.
Jason Hanson was echoing a similar sentiment that you better be in good shape and know what the hell you are doing if you go to Ukraine. There is a reason the military does intense training before sending people overseas. Col. David Hackworth wrote that it takes 10 years to training a modern combined arms soldier. The learning curve is steep and if you fail then you die.
Hey civ, i was one of those people at the start of the conflict in ukraine. I didn't have much going for me in life, but watching your videos helped me realize that someone with out prior combat experience/training really would have only been in the way. Everyone who wishes to volunteer to help out Ukraine are absolutely welcome to do so, all the power to them. Just know the risks and try to stick to what you know best. If anything, we need more people willing to do the right thing.
It should also be noted that the type of warfare being fought now is not anything like what you experienced in the first 4 months of the conflict. Anyone going now is highly likely a death sentence.
I mean people keep saying that someone with no prior military experience or training has no business fighting in ukraine, but the international legion literally sais that no military experience ist required.

Comment on your previous video, your time in Corp. I can relate to it. It’s been three decade since I left the Corp and same scenario goes on. Poorly ran commands or some that don’t get words up command to know what’s going on with the troops. In my case after my Gunny wouldn’t recommend me for reenlistment the command realize how much this Gunny didn’t develop young Marines and turned it on him. Commander asked him what does he contribute to the corp that he should stay in. Soon after I left he was out of corp, but of course the f… head has a pension. Where I’m going with this is,it’s hit and miss. Similar to you they’re have been short in height marines but commands mostly worked with them. I would have thought your command would have detailed you long term to the chow hall or facilities maintenance. Finishing out contract cutting base commands lawns. Hahaha Semper Fi brother.

Transitioning to living in a van has been my 5 year goal for 10 years now. I just never have enough money at once to ever buy a vehicle. And now that no one can afford an apartment, everyone wants a van. The price of a Sprinter goes up proportionally with the rent and availability of one bedroom apartments. I'm going to do a stealth box truck, if I can ever find one that isn't $20,000.
Yeah the explosion of Van Life UA-camr/social media content creators combined with expensive housing/rent has really jacked up prices on vans. Even vans that are beat up and worn out are selling for crazy prices.

I would never be able to fight. I have a good life ahead of me things aren’t' always good but stuff is set up I'm able to follow a study I love I got job prospects. The military sounds awful to me everything about it (skipping past the point i would obviously need years uppon years of training before I'd be more then a deadweight). To self reflect at the risk of sounding like a wuss. the situation in Ukraine and other countries just simply angers me to no end, the injustice being done (only) 2k KM away from me. there's probably a lot I can do. but it feels like I can't. I think hat's because I’m attracted to military channels since the war. because if I won't fight and don't have the money to substantially mean something. then the least I can do is stay informed. to be honest, I don’t' think it's working. but it's all I have. I really appreciate you keeping it real.
I was one of the Men who got turned down to go to Ukraine I was 17 at the time and went to the Ukrainian Embassy in Chicago when they found out my age I got denied instantly out of all of my buddies I was the only one who couldn’t go it broke my heart into pieces but now I believe I have my own battle at my home.

I barely see Americans where I live anymore. It used to be pretty even with Americans and Europeans/Aussies/Kiwis. Now I'm the only American at my job. It's like everybody is scared to get a passport and travel.
Seeing the current world political climate and the deteriorating economic conditions many people probably aren't willing to travel abroad or can afford to. If you don't mind me asking, what country are you talking about.
Not afraid to travel necessarily, afraid to not be able to afford life. Too busy working to pay rent to be able to plan a trip somewhere yet alone pay for it and suddenly be back all that money we'd spend on the trip.
Compared to many Euuropean passports the american one isnt even that good in comparison it is placed in Tier 6 on place ~20 while the entirety of western Europe is in Tier two or three and eastern Europe 4 to 6 with the US

Eh, not so much gestapo but concerned citizens. Why wouldnt you say "Hey man, be careful what you say because you might accidentally get someone killed." Is that government tyranny or a dude looking out for his fellow dudes?
This isn't really a "Gestapo" thing. If you post videos of yourself in Iraq, Europe, and Syria fighting with militias, you're going to attract a lot of attention from your government no matter what country you're in.
I personally think if you had your own reasons to got at the start and you had little to no training, it was probably not too bad, they had the time to train you but right now I don't think that a good idea. Join your national guard or something like that where you can gsin experience and if you still fell the same doen the line ar least then you have somthing to give.
I can add to this, that if you are not sure about van life, try trucking first, if you have money to do CDL. You can earn some money for building a van in that way. That is my method, if you can endure some time in small space of truck cab, then you should be able to be happy with van life. Unfortunately Im still on trucking phase.

Most EU, American, Japanese, Singapore, Australian, New Zealand passport are great because most countries you go to can be recently certain you are who you say you are on the passport. Many countries like South Africa you can bribe someone to give you a clean passport with another person’s name. To most customs offices thats scary as hell so they always look long and hard at those people. They can sometimes request a visa interview first for permission to enter. Also you can trust most US passport holders, because most Americans simply can’t hide their Americanisms. It’s a set of traits that are almost impossible to not spot.
Honestly i hate war and would never ever fight and one, but i enjoy the videos because they’re informative, and i can get accounts and information from someone with experience. This video honestly was really good too even tho it shedded light on a serious topic. Don’t join the military or anything because it sounds cool, trust me you’ll either wish you never went there as soon as a bullet flies over your head, or you like it because you’re crazy idk
If someone doesn't have enough sense in them to know you shouldn't do these things without actual experience and training, than I wouldn't care if they do it anyway. Natural selection and I'm not their parent lol.

He did point out that he believes is the soldier who makes the gear, not the gear that makes the soldier. So if you are going with subpar gear as a great soldier you'll be a great soldier. But if you are going to with subpar gear and arent a soldier you won't be a good soldier.
Hey honestly its a nah on ukraine or fighting anywhere but home for me man. Honestly my view on other places is "sucks to suck" not that any of them suck its just not my business and i have no skin in the game. Even if there was a draft to fight somewhrre else for some other bullshit war its "fuck that" i respect the hell out of what you've done though. Just not for me.

Many people who want to do this sort of thing have no prior military experience. I understand where you're coming from. It's noble to see a horrible situation and to want to help. But unless you know what you're doing and have good experience, you will probably help more by staying home, donating and raising awareness. And life's short enough as it is.

I spent 9 years in combat in the Middle East . I was wounded & im disabled from a RPG and other things . If you think this is what you want to do because “it’s cool “ you are special. Everyday is incredibly difficult for me now because of what I put my body through. After all that the real battles started . Trust me life after combat ain’t no picnic even if shit went well .

I've had Drill Sergeants admit feeling the same way.
Same reason a lot of people try out for Special Forces. Being "cool" is a powerful motivator.
Young men want to stand out among their peers and honestly I think it's bad to shame people for it. That is what bootcamp is for. So that even the dumv kids who join because they're inspired by video games can be trained into professional, mature, combat personnel.

@@fudgepacker2858 Did 6 years in the military, a lot of guys in 'combat' jobs definitely picked the combat jobs because they thought it was 'cooler' or more 'bad ass' than a job that actually taught you skills that could directly translate into the civilian working world. Not saying those combat jobs can't translate, it's just not as easily translated. A mechanic can get out and become a mechanic or engineer, same with firefighter, hvac guy, etc. Not sure if that makes sense.

Loved my van, used the time to listen to pods coming out of Syria and Sinjar. Saw a lot, loved being free, but didnt save enough to replace it when a drunk driver smashed into it. Now I work defense, but, getting an adventure van for weekenders again.
Perhaps could you do a video on good strategies for working/saving money in order to do travelling? Or even financing your van and kit out?
I'm guessing in his case, during his time in the Marines, he actually saved money, like - ate at the chow hall regularly (free / cheap food on base), didn't blow his check every month on strip clubs or just piles of unnecessary shit, got deployed (where there's not much to spend your checks on, and the pay gets higher, tax free)... do stuff like this, and you'll have a freakin big pile of cash after a few years, even without investing in CD's or more complicated stuff. Still, yeah, I'd be interested to hear any thoughts he has. He probably gave good tips in his old travel videos, too, if those are available.

I am from Spain, married and father of three kids. I started watching your videos because of the war action. But I have come to see that there is more than action in them. people spoke English overwhelmed with concern as I didn't speak the language, I kept saying it doesn't matter as I can always smile and mime my way to food or accommodation but they infallibly went out of their way to give me lifts, buy me tea, make sure my hotel was not overcharging (they never did) & apologize for not speaking English, in really good English. it was funny and charming in equal measure.

IF you went to know what 2/10 feels like as a soldier just join your local Infantry Reserve Unit. Get wet, cold, and tired and then figure out if you love it. IF YOU DO, stay in 5 years minimum and maybe then consider full time in the Army. Because guess what.. the Artillery finds you / 'or not' regardless of how good you are. Since the war began and before i found your channel, i wanted to help out. Its horrible whats happening. When i tried to join the foreigners army you had to be (i think 21 or 18), and had to have combat experence or mil training,both of them i dont have, so i didnt go to Ukraine.
Jason Hanson was echoing a similar sentiment that you better be in good shape and know what the hell you are doing if you go to Ukraine. There is a reason the military does intense training before sending people overseas. Col. David Hackworth wrote that it takes 10 years to training a modern combined arms soldier. The learning curve is steep and if you fail then you die.

I didn't have much going for me in life, but watching your videos helped me realize that someone with out prior combat experience/training really would have only been in the way. Comment on your previous video, your time in Corp. I can relate to it. It’s been three decade since I left the Corp and same scenario goes on. Poorly ran commands or some that don’t get words up command to know what’s going on with the troops. In my case after my Gunny wouldn’t recommend me for reenlistment the command realize how much this Gunny didn’t develop young Marines and turned it on him. Commander asked him what does he contribute to the corp that he should stay in. Soon after I left he was out of corp, but of course the f… head has a pension. Where I’m going with this is,it’s hit and miss. Similar to you they’re have been short in height marines but commands mostly worked with them. I would have thought your command would have detailed you long term to the chow hall or facilities maintenance. Finishing out contract cutting base commands lawns. Hahaha Semper Fi brother.

And now that no one can afford an apartment, everyone wants a van. The price of a Sprinter goes up proportionally with the rent and availability of one bedroom apartments. I would never be able to fight. I have a good life ahead of me things aren’t' always good but stuff is set up I'm able to follow a study I love I got job prospects. The military sounds awful to me everything about it (skipping past the point i would obviously need years uppon years of training before I'd be more then a deadweight). To self reflect at the risk of sounding like a wuss. the situation in Ukraine and other countries just simply angers me to no end, the injustice being done (only) 2k KM away from me. there's probably a lot I can do. but it feels like I can't. I think hat's because I’m attracted to military channels since the war. because if I won't fight and don't have the money to substantially mean something. then the least I can do is stay informed.

I was one of the Men who got turned down to go to Ukraine I was 17 at the time and went to the Ukrainian Embassy in Chicago when they found out my age I got denied instantly out of all of my buddies I was the only one who couldn’t go it broke my heart into pieces but now I believe I have my own battle at my home.

Not afraid to travel necessarily, afraid to not be able to afford life. Too busy working to pay rent to be able to plan a trip somewhere yet alone pay for it and suddenly be back all that money we'd spend on the trip.

Compared to many Euuropean passports the american one isnt even that good in comparison it is placed in Tier 6 on place ~20 while the entirety of western Europe is in Tier two or three and eastern Europe 4 to 6 with the US

This isn't really a "Gestapo" thing. If you post videos of yourself in Iraq, Europe, and Syria fighting with militias, you're going to attract a lot of attention from your government no matter what country you're in.
I personally think if you had your own reasons to got at the start and you had little to no training, it was probably not too bad, they had the time to train you but right now I don't think that a good idea. Join your national guard or something like that where you can gsin experience and if you still fell the same doen the line ar least then you have somthing to give.

I can add to this, that if you are not sure about van life, try trucking first, if you have money to do CDL. You can earn some money for building a van in that way. That is my method, if you can endure some time in small space of truck cab, then you should be able to be happy with van life. Unfortunately Im still on trucking phase.

Most EU, American, Japanese, Singapore, Australian, New Zealand passport are great because most countries you go to can be recently certain you are who you say you are on the passport. Many countries like South Africa you can bribe someone to give you a clean passport with another person’s name. To most customs offices thats scary as hell so they always look long and hard at those people. They can sometimes request a visa interview first for permission to enter. Also you can trust most US passport holders, because most Americans simply can’t hide their Americanisms. It’s a set of traits that are almost impossible to not spot.

He did point out that he believes is the soldier who makes the gear, not the gear that makes the soldier. So if you are going with subpar gear as a great soldier you'll be a great soldier. But if you are going to with subpar gear and arent a soldier you won't be a good soldier.
