His expenditure is probably in proportion to his parties popularity because otherwise it would signify some sort of pre meditated desire to ripoff the system.

All expenses should be capped, with their salaries they can afford the short fall. If they need to travel once over their limit there should be another process to keep them in check. It shouldn’t be an open cheque book, how one MP who isn’t even in power can spend three times the average and this not be picked up as a concern is beyond belief.
