A warning for bikers in The Netherlands: 01 July 2019 it's not allowed anymore, to film a video footage , using a cell-phone or talking with any registrated - recorder or electronic device in you're hands, while riding on your bike .... ( use a GPS or Route - planner ) Really, it's a new rule ....
A good rule, people these days are too distracted by their phone and in turn is a dangerous element on the road, both to themselves and others, this goes for everyone, car drivers, scooter drivers and cyclists, it only takes 1 second to kill a human, maybe a child.. That's unacceptable, so the new rule is ok, if you really need to fiddle with your phone, stop.
Great rule but this is the hilarious part "WHO IS GOING TO ENFORCE THE RULE!" There are no police in the Netherlands and even the small amount of police that are around don't do anything. They also need to ban or make it illegal for people with headphones in busy city centrums from using them as it is just as bad. Deyanira Ortiz I’m from Southern CA and I have a few questions already lol one being how did you choose going over there compared to other universities abroad. Another being if you are studying for your bachelor or masters? My last question for now has to do with housing and if people going for their masters share housing with those going for their bachelors or is that a separate thing? I have heard housing is hard over there so I want to be prepared 😅

@@deys_day you didn't begin in a neighbourhood of Rotterdam, in fact, you were in another municipality of Lansingerland, and particularly in the Town of Berkel en Rodenrijs. In the beginning, you start in the Berkel part of the town, and after you went under the metro line you entered into Rodenrijs. And there would've been at least one pit stop...a Mcdonalds in that area (i would know as I went there a few times). Then I think you were on the Molenweg when you said: "I'm lost, there are no more signs". And by the time you are riding by the airport you were back into Rotterdam municipality.

Deyanira Ortiz unfortunately not, and even if you went via Rodenrijseweg that goes through the town center, there isn't much more choice. But it is a small town, so that isn't too much of a surprise.
Pleasant ride and pleasant narration. Thanks. Your trip looked so much like bicycling on Mobile Bay's eastern and southern marsh wetlands parks in the southern US. Some towns looked very similar to the small towns on such a trip in closeup on the shops and restaurants (Fairhope, Magnolia Springs, Foley, Elberta, Silverhill). Other more urban and modern town scenes near Rotterdam looked like the greenways of Alpharetta, GA. No old windmills though. There are casual day clothes bicycling places scattered in the US. Helps if the place is flat. Most of the US and Canada is rural or small cities. Movies, TV and most UA-camrs are clustered in the big cities, so the view from afar is a bit -off. I think the US only have 9 cities officially over a million spread over an entire continent. Most overseas friends and relatives think we all live like NYC, LA or Chicago. Bicycling is mostly for pleasure though here or small town errands. Towns, even small ones, are too far apart in most places and the weather can be severe at times. Typically 40 to 60km apart. Like the UK, our most visible cyclists are the costumed athletic cyclist. However that is probably not the most common cyclists.
Totally agree, I grew up in a small town in California! Everything is pretty far apart though so cars are obviously the most efficient way to get around. I always loved biking as a kid though so it was great to experience that in the Netherlands!

OMG HOW EXCITING!!! Where in California are you from? If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. When I cam here I honestly had no idea what the university was like or ANYTHING really, so if I can help I am more than happy to do so!
I have heard housing is hard over there so I want to be prepared 😅
a home is a home, for whoever lives in it..
one tip however, DONT GET SCAMMED when looking for a room, because i do hear a lot about people who ended up in a hotel because their room, wasnt real... @@I_Prevail3
should be less in rotterdam area compared to the real city tho ;)
the way people spell here its sad to even think you guys are college educated or edumacaded.... The standard has been lowered so far soon people will barely be able to skip rope.
ALWAYS ALWAYS put 2 chain lock on your bike 1 thru the front wheel and 1thru the back wheel and always chain your bike to an fench or a streetsign or lantern post, and buy some earplugs for your phone and an stand for your phone, because an fine wil cost you up to €230,- so be aware.
I had no idea about the fines! Thank you!
No don't teach her to be a idiot cyclist riding with headphones on her bike who ride the bike paths completely clueless to their surroundings or other cyclist ringing their bells to warn them they want to pass them. Headphones in bike traffic and car traffic is just plain stupid and dangerous. Some kid just go ran over by a huge heavy dump truck that was backing up and the kid didn't hear the trucks back up alarm and road his bike right behind the truck and was crushed and killed all because he was wearing headphones. You kids are just plain stupid wearing headphones.
What about the lock?!
The fun thing is that manny of your countrymen/women think of the Netherlands as a liberal Chavez invested socialist dystopia. Enjoy your time in the Netherlands, super!!
Would of been nice to see the bike.
You really love to ride your bike on a footpath don't you.. ;-p Keep on riding your bicycle, nice to see Rotterdam through your eyes, visit the Wilhemina pier and take the bridge there to Katendrecht where there are lots of little restaurants and places to drink something, perhaps also a visit to Oud Delfshaven, the oldest part of Rotterdam from where the pilgrim fathers left towards the New World. The next message is for FD2: this is Rotterdam, we do not have worse parts..
HAHAHA I don't do it on purpose I'm a newbie! Thank you for the recommendations, I'm hoping to explore more in January!!
So what happened @ 0:30 The kickstand fell down?
How much this bike cost. ,I guess without gear,??
No gears and it was 75€
Great video 👍👍👍

Question- What studies you are pursuing ma'am.?
Greets from Nainital. Uttarakhand, India.
ahhh thank you so much!!! I am a communication studies major!
This may be a silly question, but how do you bike with one hand? And do you know how to speak Dutch?
HAHAHA I must have good motor skills? Idk lol it's all about balance! Unfortunately, I do not speak Dutch :/
Deyanira Ortiz I'm jealous! I can't ride with one hand, and I certainly can't ride the omafiets, I need a hand brake 😂
I always bike no hands you get used to it for us its normal like walking most countrys the stop cycling when the get older the dutch dont even when you are 80 years old if you can ride then ride
@@eleanoralee2135 HAHAHA I grew up on bikes with pedal brakes so I guess that makes more sense as to why I can ride with one hand lol
@@frenzel1987 I'VE NOTICED!!! It's so crazy haha
Love this video, grts from Holland. uhhhh, the Netherlands haha
You need to visite Spakenburg the hidden jamme of the Netherlands. On saterday there is a weekly markert whit more then a 100 stands. It's a old fihsingtown near Amersfoort. Take the train to Amersfoort and the linebus 76 to Bunschoten Spakenburg.
The 1e of September it's fihseryday in the citycenter of Spakenburg .

Love you 💝💝💝💝💝💝
What neighborhood do you live in ???
This was a different neighborhood and to be quite honest I don't even know where I was hahaha
@@dennisverweij4817 hahaha yeah I saw the mcDonald's and was like uhhhh I'll keep going there has to be something else! I WAS WRONG HAHAHA but thank you for clarifying it all!
Deyanira Ortiz unfortunately not, and even if you went via Rodenrijseweg that goes through the town center, there isn't much more choice. But it is a small town, so that isn't too much of a surprise.
yes lets be creepy and ask her were she lives.... tell you what why don't you give us your address and then she will tell you were she lives.
Nice
Thank you!
You're staying??? Yesss
No, I'm back in the states now :(
@@deys_day sad
lol there are no pit stops hhahaha you had to choose the way with traffic lights xD
I was like "hmmm I'll just follow the signs!" *ends up in the middle of nowhere* lol
She is so lovely
Thank you!!
Dolle pret, lekker fietsen

GNARLY!!
holding a phone in your and cost you a lot of money in fines
You ought to learn the rules of the road: e.g. don't ride your bike on footpaths!
As if nobody does that.
You are in the Netherlands, you can bike everywhere.
get a life. be happy that she's happy with her bike.
TheHonestInquirer i only hate that if people do that on the sidewalk if its a narrow one , but like this she wouldn't bother anyone
Yipping Fox we have special bike lanes on roads
Ok ok, that was the nice part of the country.
Next time show us the worst parts.
BTW, glad you like it here !
Hahahaha what exactly are the bad parts? It's literally so pretty anywhere you turn!
Just wait for the winter months and see how many people ride their bikes in cold, rainy or even snowy weather... great vlog!
@@cas73 HAHAHA funny that you mention because just last night I was biking home in the rain and it was so windy I couldn't get myself to stay in one lane! Thank you, for subscribing!!

Hi if you do more bike rides and show Dutch lifestyle then all subscribe taa daa .
hi how is life joy bicycle
Do not bike on the sidewalk....lol that is for walking...
You will get fined..
O gee, omafiets model. Women tend to go for the romantic looking stuff, but they learn the hard way why Dutch men use omafiets model seldom, it sucks when you have to take it up against our famous south western wind ... or any wind, there is always wind here. Omafiets sits too low, that’s no good position in conquering our lovely weather conditions, on a bike.
By the way, you are bicycling in places you are not supposed to.
Very good, now buy a mountainbike :P
Mooie fiets, mooi meisje, wat wil je nog meer in het leven.
