    I forgot to mention in the video that I kept the electronics the same. 500k pots and .022 cap. I'll try a different cap value for the A90 (as recommended by IronGear) in part 2

      It's it true that the alchemist 90 isn't a p90 at all but it's just a strat single coil in a p94 housing

    • @AlexisGuitars
      @AlexisGuitars  3 роки тому

      @@jismy012 it'll be worth looking into. I didn't want to get into the difference between actual p90s and humbucker sized p90s in this video. Might take a look under the cover at some stage though!

      @@AlexisGuitars yeah but I thought this humbucker sized p90 sounded very very stratty. Whereas most p90's are much more mid boosted. And very similar to a humbucker sound. Even humbucker sized p90's sound similar to full sized ones. Whereas thr alchemist pickup just sounds like a strat single coil to me

      I agree, it's got a lot of high end. I do have the pots and cap to bring out highs, though. In my video coming out later today I demo it with .047 cap which darkens it up somewhat.

    Loving how the guitar looks Alex! Been a fun process watching you build it! And it sounds awesome! I think I like the p90 style pick up. I like the almost strat sound to it.

      Thanks Billy, it was a lot of fun to make, and now is a lot of fun to play. Already planning the next! I didn't quite know what to expect with the p90s. Absolutely love their tones

    A90 is my preference, but the humbuckers rock as well!

      I feel the same way, but not sure which will stay in this guitar. Going to try the p90s in another guitar and see where they fit best.

    Are those P90s ceramic or alnico? I like the tone of both humbucker and P90, but for looks I would keep the P90s on the guitar they look elegant there. Beautiful guitar by the way, great build!

    I think I preferred the humbuckers. The real winner is that Terror Stamp I think! I was tempted to get one before

    • @AlexisGuitars
      @AlexisGuitars  3 роки тому

      Haha the terror stamp is a great bit of gear for home use. Tone/shape knob is only useable between 11 and 1 o'clock, and gain passed 2 or 3 o'clock is just fuzz. Staying within those boundaries is great though 🤣

    Great video! I've been thinking about putting an A90 in the neck and a HS in the bridge of my Jackson...do you think that'd be a good combo? Cheers!

    • @AlexisGuitars
      @AlexisGuitars  3 роки тому

      Cheers mate! Tonally that would be an awesome combo. It might take some tweaking of the pickup heights to get the output levels balanced, but I like the idea of that combo

      Nice! Hope you enjoy the A90s! I'm finishing up a second tone demo of the alchemist 90s where I do a short comparison with different cap values. Hopefully that will help show what difference to expect at different tone levels in case you want to brighten/darken the tone slightly. Should be out this week.

    One nerdy question. Irongear recommended a. 27uF cap when the A90 and. 44 on the Hot Slag. Did you swap caps or same throughout?
    I like both. Hot slag possibly bit too brutal for my ears

    • @AlexisGuitars
      @AlexisGuitars  3 роки тому +1

      Great question! Can't believe I forgot to mention electronics. I kept the same pots and cap, so a .022 cap and 500k pots for both. In part 2 I'll do a quick capacitor change and see how much influence that has on the A90. Thanks!
