Took Accutane back in 2007 in grade 9 for 8 months and my skin is still clear. I do get a pimple or two at times but after a few weeks they disappear. There's no cure for acne, however, Accutane is the closest to one.
I really hope you do a video about life after Accutane, how to know if it has “cured” acne, are there signs that indicate it will come back, what to expect after six months, a year, etc… TY
I had cystic acne until I went on Roaccutane in my mid thirties (20 years ago). Have never had a cyst since and also have never had thrush since either! I wish I had gone on it earlier, it was offered to me in my early twenties but I declined it through fear of the side effects and also didn’t realise acne is a chronic condition that I wouldn’t grow out of. So, by the time I had treatment, I had had cystic acne for more than 20 years. Now as I approach my 60’s, I’m dealing with the scarring which will cost me tens of thousands after it’s all said and done. Beauty standards are hard for most people, but if your face is full of scars it is very difficult psychologically. Makeup doesn’t cover them, it almost accentuates them. Some people would say I still have “acne” because I still have a lot of sebum but it’s manageable with products such as tretanoin creams. After dealing with the scars, I might get some advice and go back on a low dose. Acne is a terrible and chronic disease for which effective treatments are now readily available. The sooner you get treated, the fewer scars to deal with later. The drug has been around for a long time now. Whilst you are receiving treatment, you will be monitored extensively to be cautious.
My brother was on it in the late 80s. I remember how red his face got and how dry it got, but he also had bad cystic acne so i guess for him, the side effects were worth it. He's now in his early 50s and never had a breakout since using Accutane. His face looks quite nice even now.
Im 55 now and was on accutane twice in my early 20s. The first course cleared me up for about a year but then my acne came back and my derm put me on it again and that cleared it up for good. The only side effect I got was a little bit of dry skin around my nose. My family doctor tried everything under the sun to clear me up for years with zero results. Accutane was the last resort and for me it was a lifesaver.
Accutane is the most AMAZING acne medication ever!! There is a small percentage of people that may need to take it more than once. Yes your skin gets dry but when you have full blown cystic acne and other forms of acne it is a good medicine. Also, most people with severe acne already have depression so it is possible that it may exacerbate but how would you really know. I was on oral antibiotics for over 10 years and it was so difficult to get it. In addition doctors were afraid that I would get pregnant which is understandable however no one was ever remotely interested so that was never a problem but I get it though because people don’t tell the truth!🤣
Thats why you get it online illegally lol that’s what i did and also for a friend. We were responsible and still did our blood tests plus it was about 95% cheaper
It's not just your skin that gets dry though (eyeballs and vaginas if you have that) and the depression when you're already susceptible to low moods and depression episodes it's not really an ideal situation.

I have been on Accutane for about 7 months and I take 30 mg/day. I take it twice a day after a high fat meal. I have had no side effects except slightly drier lips than before. My skin has not become dry at all. I still get little pimples here and there but they go away after a few days. I worry that the dosage is too low for me, as I have none of the usual side effects and still break out a little every now and then, even though I am already on the 7th month. It was a miracle lol. All the best to you and your journey💕💕💕
It’s not complicated. It is just a fat soluble vitamin and you just need to watch that you take it with food and the absorption rate. Other than that it does not need to be strictly controlled by every government agency created by men.
Have you tried low dose yet? I did 2 normal rounds and now about to take low dose for years to make sure severe acne will never come back 😭 It always comes back after I stop
@@chibio1255 yes I have been on low dose for over 7 years now (with a few breaks). For the most part it works great though I do get breakouts sometimes.
I had to take it for a little over a year because, even though I barely had any side effects from it (basically only dry skin) and very stable blood work, my skin was incredibly stubborn and slow to change, but eventually, it did. So far, I’m keeping my skin routine game up, and I avoid dairy products. After all this time, my skin is still clean.
That's interesting! I just thought the empty stomach thing (with any powerful pill) would be for the stomach not to be damaged, but I didn't know accutane would work better with a "food pillow" beforehand. I have never taken accutane but I almost did, my dermatologist even told me it was likely for me to get to do so, I even got my blood drawn to test and see if my body would handle isotretinoin well. But the dermatologist told me that whether I take it or not, that I had to take "Minocin" beforehand. To clear it a bit and then see if accutane was necessary. Surprised me to see it worked just fine! Not as aggressive but it still cleared my cystic and hormonal acne. It's been over a year, and I get occasional pimples as normal but not even close to before. Curious if I'll need it in the future.
Dr. Dray, I've been on accutane for 5 months and I don't get acne anymore but my face is still red. What kind of moisturizer can I use to fix this? or should I wait until i'm done with my course? I'm currently using vanicream moisturizing cream,
Im on Isotretinoin for the second time in my life now and can’t agree more! I also got horrible side effects if I took it with low fat food. With high fat meals suddenly the headaches and nausea were gone.
Thanks, about to start accutane In a few weeks, nice to know. Just in case my derm don’t say anything about eating fatty foods. Also, trying to gain a little weight to this should be a win win
I quit because I felt like shit while taking accutane, the worst kinda shit tbh. Constant mood swings, migraines, my derm keeps pushing for it for some reason even though I really didn't feel well.
I've read that in rare cases people took a dose of 240mg for months and it did nothing. I'd be more interested about what the root cause of a relapse is
Dr Dray, no professional informed my daughter who had complications, thus scarring. The whole matter was a mess, badly handled. Not every provider is totally invested in the patient.
I took accutane for 4 months, (I was originally supposed to be on it for 6 months but the doctor had to take me off of it because I was in a really dark place). Mind you I never had ANY suicidal thoughts or depression before I started taking this drug. I had a lot of side effects like depression, dry lips/nose, irritability/anger etc. But I also had extreme suicidal thoughts. Not only that but I also had thoughts about killing other people. Once I got off the medication, most of the side effects went away but the depression and anger still lingered. My skin IS clear but if I had a time machine I would go back in time and never let my self start this medication, it’s not worth it.
I took accutane for three months. went from not knowing what a headache was to have severe ones, as well as increased negative depression like thoughts. doctor told me to cut the pills since the headaches were a sign of a dangerous side effect. My acne came back 3 times worse later on. Now just using water to wash my face and watching what I eat, my skin got way better!! The caveman routine was the way to go for me💪
@memoonasaeed4408 my severe migraines and lightheaded feeling went away after I stopped taking the acutane. Unfortunately my hair line is still receding. And my acne came back to bite me but at least I don't feel like shit. It's like a 40 minute drive to my college, I almost wreaked a couple times with how bad I was feeling and he's still pushing for the accutane even though I had other issues going on as well like the cysts on my ovaries and the massive mood swings I had for months, the 2 to 3 weeks of bleeding each month and yet not a single doctor will take me seriously u get told it's normal.
Im in Vancouver and after years of my family doctor trying everything, she finally sent me to a dermatologist and he put me on it. Best thing for me as I had no side effects and cleared me up for good. This was in the 1990s so not sure if attitudes toward Accutane has changed.
Accutane also causes MGD, in a lot of cases irreversible. Do you have any experience helping patients with this condition? Do not want to quit Accutane, but suffering with dry eye due to meibomien glad atrophy or discomfort is not a joke. 🙏
Guys I am begging you, if you dermatologist is recommending accutane, please understand the side effects. If there is a history of stroke in your family, please I strongly recommend not to take any birth control pills or accutane. I have used accutane for 10 days and it messed be up. Guess what I had more pimples than with what I went to the doctor. Please guys, don’t put your skin through that shit. My lips had become so dry, they started bleeding way too much
Irresponsible to say that accutane doesn’t work if you take it on an empty stomach..? It is literally a factual truth, how is a factual truth “irresponsible”? It sounds like your son had some kind of poor reaction to accutane, in which case it has NOTHING to do with what Dr. Dray was talking about here.

Same, any updates? Did she end up allowing u to take accutane
Best time to take Accutane morning and night??
Cringe overload
took about 9 months for accutane to actually change my skin, worth the wait tho
wow i would've thought it's more effective than tretinoin
is it ok that im in month 5 and still there is no result??? it seems like im doing this for nothing
@@hhhjj5795 I understand that everyone is different and it can maybe not work as effectively to some, but hang in there-please keep remaining positive. It took 9 months at least for me for there to be any sort of change at all, I was actually put on accutane for longer than I was originally supposed to be on it for my age , they wanted to give me a last little bit of hope in case there was any more change, was put on it for an extra 2 months or so and in the last few weeks my skin transformed. It was a miracle lol.
All the best to you and your journey💕💕💕
It’s not complicated. It is just a fat soluble vitamin and you just need to watch that you take it with food and the absorption rate. Other than that it does not need to be strictly controlled by every government agency created by men.
Can take it for only 3 months initially and if I’m traveling for the other 3 months will the break in between my treatment stop the effect?
Does it matter if I don’t include as much fatty food?
Wtf is up with the faces?!
I wonder too
Its like she is on drugs. So overboard???
I just took my first dose (40 mg). How long does it take to start working?? Also should I cut out all my of acne face and body washes?
Can you recommend the best treatment for acne scars
I did 5 rounds and always took it with high fat food 😭
Probably your acne is hormonal ..
@@soully2609 all acne is hormonal!
@ Deena u stayed on antibiotics 10 years straight before you went on accutane?
Dr dray should i cover my face with a shemagh(arabic face cloth) or should i use sunscreen? Bcz i cant reapply sunscreen throughout the day
Isotretinoin accutane is permanent solution for pimple acne plzz reply dr😢
I had to take it for a little over a year because, even though I barely had any side effects from it (basically only dry skin) and very stable blood work, my skin was incredibly stubborn and slow to change, but eventually, it did.
So far, I’m keeping my skin routine game up, and I avoid dairy products. After all this time, my skin is still clean.
Dr i took accutane for 28 days dose not this cause infertility? I am worried plz reply
How soon after finishing accutane can one get pregnant ?
I’m slow but when you say take it with food do you mean right after the meal??
You seem happy today
I start accutane and have to stop everytime cuz ut spikes my LDL n VLDL. What am u supposed to do 😭😭
That's interesting!
It not before. It’s with.
Accutane made me go crazy 😔 I had to stop and still have terrible acne 😣
Dr. Dray, I've been on accutane for 5 months and I don't get acne anymore but my face is still red. What kind of moisturizer can I use to fix this? or should I wait until i'm done with my course? I'm currently using vanicream moisturizing cream,
Try Bioderma Sensibio AR. Lasers also help with redness. One i tried is Genesis Laser
Im on Isotretinoin for the second time in my life now and can’t agree more! I also got horrible side effects if I took it with low fat food. With high fat meals suddenly the headaches and nausea were gone.
I'm almost heading a year on Accutane treatment and still get acne ocassionly not as i used to get though i just get like 1 in a week is this normal?
Will isotretinoin stop working ifi miss it for 3 days
Can you make z video on difference between tretnojn and isotretnoin (aka acutane)?
Thanks, about to start accutane In a few weeks, nice to know. Just in case my derm don’t say anything about eating fatty foods. Also, trying to gain a little weight to this should be a win win
My skin is becoming dark is it temporary and common ??
I quit because I felt like shit while taking accutane, the worst kinda shit tbh. Constant mood swings, migraines, my derm keeps pushing for it for some reason even though I really didn't feel well.
How much international unit in 20 mg isotretinoin
I've read that in rare cases people took a dose of 240mg for months and it did nothing. I'd be more interested about what the root cause of a relapse is
Is taking Accutane and prednisone safe
Dr Dray, no professional informed my daughter who had complications, thus scarring. The whole matter was a mess, badly handled. Not every provider is totally invested in the patient.
I took my accutane with a spoonful of PB every time, but alas, the acne came back. Hormonal acne too strong 🥴😅
I have always found Peanut butter to make me extra oily.
Isotretinoin is permanent solution for pimple plz Dr reply me
I took accutane for 4 months, (I was originally supposed to be on it for 6 months but the doctor had to take me off of it because I was in a really dark place). My skin IS clear but if I had a time machine I would go back in time and never let my self start this medication, it’s not worth it.
what was ur dosage?
I took it 3 times and my dermatologist never told me this 😭😭 this could’ve saved me so much time
I’ve never taken nor needed to take Acutane. But I feel properly lectured now. I promise to eat more avocado’s and almond butter from now on.
Im actually hollering at what ur face is doing oml 😂😂😂😂😂😂😅
omg, i LOVE your facial expressions. Do more in your videos!!! this is the content of my DREAMS
The caveman routine was the way to go for me💪
I'm going through same, i got headaches hairloss joint pains dry eyes after isotretinoin. My acne is back but side effects still persist
After the ipledge thing i forgot about this rule omg 😭😭😭😭 IVE BEEN SELF SABOTAGING
My sister’s triglycerides went through the roof! Accurate was poison to my teenage sister.
Can some one answer this how mich does it matter taking it with fatty food then just food
Accutane landed me in hospital!
Dr are against this in Canada and had to beg my dermatologist to give it to me to try!
Im in Vancouver and after years of my family doctor trying everything, she finally sent me to a dermatologist and he put me on it. Best thing for me as I had no side effects and cleared me up for good. This was in the 1990s so not sure if attitudes toward Accutane has changed.
it causes chronic dry eye as well
Accutane also causes MGD, in a lot of cases irreversible. Do you have any experience helping patients with this condition? Do not want to quit Accutane, but suffering with dry eye due to meibomien glad atrophy or discomfort is not a joke. 🙏
My dermatologist only told me to take it with food he never said anything about about fat
My derm did
I was taking it with Prednisona at breakfast, when I ran out of prednisona I have pusyules an cysts now, the wordt acne I've ever had :(
You give me FRED vibes with all the faces😂
Can you take accutane again if you got pregnant on it??
Did your baby survive that omg. Thats why you have to use 2 forms of birth control!
My lips had become so dry, they started bleeding way too much
Don't give medical advice. Your derm sucks for not telling you that purging is normal lol. You described nothing abnormal
Love the sass 😂❤
this is the other side of dray that i had ever seen 🙈.I always look at her calm tone and expression before
Wtf they need to tell you this!!
Please stop rolling your eyes
Hey does anybody know if accutane stops u from growing in 15 on 40mg 2 times diary
Daily
Durduyormu ?
Shit I eat afterwards lol I am always in a rush I never really ate before anyways
Ngl i thought this was about the ipledge issues LOL
That's why there's soja in regular isotret nowadays
My doctor never told me this..or that it's chemo
It messed up my son in more ways than one. It didn't fail because he didn't take it with food. I feel like this is kind of irresponsible to say that.
