I just did my 2013 Outback today. I didn't end up tilting the engine up with a jack; I wanted to try it without that step first, and I was able to do all 4 plugs. I removed the same parts off the Air intake as you did, and I took the battery out. My 3/8 three inch wobble extension and my 1/4 inch swivel universal extension were most useful. I wrapped duct tape around the swivel universal to make it like a wobble extension; this was used on the Drivers rear with a 1/4 ratchet and adapter to 3/8 drive 14mm deep socket. That coil BTW easily came out by gently pulling the head to the front and up. I was able to do the other 3 plugs with the 3inch wobble 3/8 extension adapted to a 1/4 drive ratchet. If my 3/8 ratchet was hinged I would have been able to use it on all but the drives side rear. I didn't torque the new plugs; I did the 1/4 turn after snug method. The old plugs at 70k were fine. A hinged ratchet would have been nice. Job took my about an hour and a half of actual work time. Thanks for your video; its videos like yours that can inspire the confidence for DIY.
Glad you were able to get it done. It definitely makes it easier to lift the motor. But it’s not absolutely mandatory. Thanks for watching! And thanks for the comment.
Thank you for this video. I watch a lot of DIY vids and your content, production and explanations are excellent. Only complaint, looks like this is your only video for the Subaru Legacy! 😅
Thanks for the help man I plan on replacing my spark plugs in the next 1000 miles and then I'm changing my transmission fluid. My Legacy has 124K on it
Like your wooden car lift! Assuming you made yourself....how did you make them? Just a girl that's genuinely curious about helping make husband's life easier in the garage : )
Gonna do this on Thursday and I'm watching this to be prepared. I don't have a jack however. The other commenter mentioned being able to do it without one so hopefully that'll work for me. What does it actually do when you jack up the engine? Does it help you access the bolt areas? Do I need to physically lift the engine if I don't jack it up? 😳
How long do you estimate it took you? I've been getting quotes from local shops who quote me between $300 and $375 for this job. Of course they're quoting based on book time and not the actual time. Best quote was $258 for plugs and labor.
Hello dear Wanted to enquire is it the same procedure to change the spark pugs for legacy gt 2.5 2014 (turbo) edition ? Or its more complicated because of the turbo might be more things remove and things harder to reach ? Thank you
Just did this on the 13 legacy and lord knows why they put the plugs 1 inch below the frame so you cannot get to them without jacking up the motor. Took me 45 minutes car to change the plugs. Took me 10 minutes on my Honda
what the heck why does your car have oil filter nice and easy to get to on top of engine i got the devil car with oil filter in middle of Y in exhaust pipe known as the ring of fire LOL

There is a center motor mount on my 2013 2.5 l outback. Will it flex up, or do I have to remove those bolts too?
@@cogitoergosum1474 I think you should loosen it too.
@@fondupot You rock! Many thanks

One of the best videos on this task. Very detailed and simple, Thank you for making this.
Cheers. Thanks!
I watched 5 other videos and this was by far the best one for changing the spark plugs. Great work!
Thanks very much!

Glad to help thanks for watching!
Damn... what useful video...! My legacy, my pocket and me are very thankful with you... thanks boss.
Hey glad to help! Thanks for watching.
Gotta try this soon. Cheapest quote I got was $350ish
It’s really easy. Save you some money and do it yourself for sure!

I built them. Here is my video on that. ua-cam.com/video/q8uPsanDRDo/v-deo.htmlsi=UUlENC7f-uAWkKFF
Way easier than Mr Subaru method. Altho my plugs looked great after 90,000miles I changed anyway.
@@JimSchweikert thanks for watching.

Good luck. It's probably doable with out jacking up the motor, but it definitely helps to give more clearance. Good luck!
Thank you !!!

Excellent video nice explanation. I guess its same procedure for 2017 outback 2.5i, correct?
Should be a similar process. Thanks for watching!
Thanks 👍
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching.

An hour. Maybe an hour and a half. Tops.

I’ll be 100% honest. I am not sure.

Yea. It’s not the worse spark plug change. On my 2019 Canyon I have to remove the intake manifold to change the drive side bank of spark plugs.

This made me chuckle.
I mean that’s just outrageous
Ok
Of course it's a 10mm the socket I always lose
It’s always a 10 mil. 😅
These car are such a headache
video doesn't load properly. it stops and audio keeps going and the video bar loads but video is stuck. Someone doesn't want want DIY
Probably your internet connection. Works fine for me on mobile and desktop.
