Love you Mark! And you should NEVER store your onions in the fridge (until they are cut). They need a cool, dark, DRY space with air to breathe to prevent both rot and sprouting.
Agree 100% and not to store close to potatoes. They cause each other to spoil quicker ... off gasing I believe.
Au contraire! Onions should go in the fridge in the bags that are available in produce depts for free. Onions in the fridge don’t make you cry! Room temperatures (like 68-75f) make them sprout. Gammy Tobin probably taught little Mark that.
@@rosezingleman5007 yes, Rose, onions in fridge don't make you cry. I only put mine in fridge after being cut. Uncut tomatoes in fridge make me cry.
@@valeriehowden471 Tomatoes in the fridge is ... criminal.
@@valeriehowden471 but you need to cling film wrap the cut onion or they will off gas into everything. Saw a chef yell at the apprentice.
I love your take on pintrest gadgets. You know ppl are already on there 24/7 if they are doing a remodel and wondering about these gadgets. You are the only kitchen designer i have seen giving your thoughts on these items... and saving us from buying orange organizers 🤣 Thanks for your professional advice!
Hey Tricia! Thanks so much.
My opinion on some of the options:
1. The slide on hooks are really meant for renters or those with purely utilitarian kitchens like small NY or Tokyo spaces
2.. The onion and potato drawers are a good idea in theory because onions and potatoes keep longer in cool, dark, ventilated spaces. But sometimes a potato or onion just decides to rot and drips the most rancid liquid that will encourage rot of the good produce. There is no solid catch pan for that liquid and cleaning it up is so gross.
LOL, onions and potatoes are supposed to be kept in a well ventilated, dark, space along with the garlic. At least my Mum taught me that. I even had a cheap hutch at some point that had onion and garlic drawers in them. But more recently, like you, I’ve been keeping them in the fridge. Also works, tbh. On thé issue of these upper cabinet pull outs - omg awesome! Will have to look into them
Great video Mark! I really like this style of content for you!! Keep the reactions coming!!
Thanks rob. These are fun videos to make for sure.
Only thing that sparked my interest was the pot drawer. Love that idea and seriously think it can work for us.
Having shorter heavier friends - that step ladder is NOT going to last long.
Things hanging from the cupboard go into the same category as open shelves - dust collectors.
Love the onion drawer!! Hate having separate baskets/ storage for potatoes/tomatoes/pumpkins/squash/garlic and onions.
Most produce should not be refrigerated!!
as long as the kitchen is around room temperature, it will be fine
It tastes way better Un-refrigerated
However potatoes and onions can’t be stored together as the onions will spoil the potatoes
4:47 the shallow hutch pantry with the bifold doors looks cool, but the doors will sweep away a lot of otherwise usable counter space.
Love the shallow pantry!
Nice video- pull out for knives and large spoon is a great idea and on my list to have, device for hanging pots is great and pull downs for higher cabinets is great, I love the lowering apparatus for the high cabinets.
YES! When I saw the accordion doors, I thought, "You just cut your storage options in half! This is why I'm considering going with raised panel doors (thick area to attach storage) instead of shaker style (simple, classic, but thin center that's too thin to attach hang-y things!)
Always interesting ideas Mark, thank you for sharing
Hooks would be great for small rental kitchen
In truth, I would love an onion (and potato) drawer.
Similar to the onion drawer, I've seen pictures of older kitchens with flour or rice drawers. I would be concerned about critters getting inside 🐜🐜🐜
I can imagine that if I had a rice drawer it would be a catastrophe. lol
I like the thin ladder idea and your other three. I hope i can find it. thank you for doing a clever video
Good 🌅 morning...glad to see you feeling better....agree with your opinions 🤣🤣🤣🤣 some of those crack me up....onion drawer..😭🤪🤣. 😅..have great day...thumbs up all day👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏻💯Great Blessings to the whole Tobin Crew..forgot oranges🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😅😅😅
Onion, potatoes tomatoes bananas cool dry place not a fridge and not a drawer with no air circulation if it had a basket or wire front to allow air in maybe
I do like the shallow depth pantry hutch. I once saw in a magazine a deep pantry hutch where half the depth went to shelves coming off the back of the hutch, and the other half went to shelves on the doors (like the shelves on the inside of a refrigerator door). I thought that looked good.
I have one of those "onion organizers" for the sock drawer in my closet. it doesn't work either. I have too many socks and they start to pile up over the organizer. I would NEVER have enough onions to waste a whole drawer on them, even if I added potatoes to the drawer. Some things just don't need to be organized.
Yeah, I totally agree. lol
I love the pulldown wall units! Have you seen any for an 18" wide cabinet? I just discovered your channel recently and your ideas/designs/tips have been so helpful in my kitchen renovation planning.
Hey Jill! Thanks for the comment. Glad the videos are helpful. I can't say I've seen one for an 18" cabinet. I would have to do a little looking. It would make sense that there was something, 18" is still pretty wide and the hardware wouldn't take up too much of that.
Good video.
Oranges! Ha, ha. You are obviously not into makeup. That orange thing looks like a sponge to blend makeup, like foundation and concealer. On a more serious note, I am going to install some kind of a mechanism to bring top cabinet shelves down. Whenever my kitchen is ready. If it will ever be ready. We started in January. Still going.
Yeah, my make-up game is a little weak. But thumbs up on the pulldown. I want one too.
We don’t have upper cabinets in the new kitchen but if we did, those pull down things would be perfect. I’m not as big a fan of the pull out for cooking implements, because I like having wooden spoons/spatulas in a pottery crock by the stove and knives on one of those magnetic knife thingies on the side of the fridge. I had the same thought about those adhesive turning hooks falling off. That’s a big nope. Onions and potatoes shouldn’t go in the fridge. I keep mine in a wire bin that clips on under a pantry shelf.
3:58 I talked to a friend who had (past tense) that type of knife block. It doesn't stand up to real-world use.
Good to know!
Pots would have to have hole in handle for the cool pot holder
Most do, don't they?
How about a step stool or ladder in a toe kick drawer? Like Ryan Serhant has in his kitchen! Kewl!
I need an onion drawer!!
Hello, could you PLEASE do a detailed video on Vadara Quartz. I am not sure if they use the brenton technology or not. Just looking for more info on this company. Seems good. Thank you.
Yeah 5 ft tall cabinets are NO fun for me have a small step ladder for my kitchen
Nice cut dude
hah thanks bro. I know a good hairdresser!
For my kitchen renovation, I'm looking for exactly such a pullout pot rack. Unfortunately, here in Germany I can't find one. Shipping from US is too expensive. I guess, I will build one myself, because the idea is genious. By the way, although here in Germany kitchen islands are not so common, I will install one, because I hate corner cabinets ;-).
Music to my ears. Thanks so much for watching!
Potatoes and onions should NOT be stored in fridge. Or together even though they both need cool, dark, dry spaces.
Where is that plate storage insert from?
I've searched high and low for that thing and nothing. Closest I've found is from IKEA. If I find it I'll update.
Good evening, Pinterest is so addicting. That honeycomb thing seems so useless.
Yeah, I'm not sure what the deal I is there.
Some of these look like options for shorter individuals.
Just for laughs...there is a video of a lil blonde headed boy about 4 or 5...I have posted every where. It has nothing to do with kitchens but we must have watched a million times 💕💕💕 the name of video on you tube
Big Ol' Bobcat! Please pull up and watch🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's always interesting seeing new ideas. As far as the onion drawer goes... onions and potatoes should be stored in a cool dark place. Putting them next to the oven would cause them to rot in no time. And hey, doesn't everybody put their oranges in with their spices!?😅
😲😍😍😍👏👏👏👍👍
Some people don't have a drawer/place in your cabinets for onions and potatoes???
Noooooo! Don't keep them in the fridge, please 🥺
Let's face it...most of them are ridiculous!
