Toe kick drawer: I have one in my kitchen, I wish I would have put in a few more, honestly. They are great for our cookie sheets and cooling racks. They use empty space that is otherwise unused. Plus, it feels like a mysterious secret. I have always wanted a hidden door to a secret room, this is as close as I can get! :D

Those hidden drawers and tables are an idea for handling corners. Put a regular cabinet in the corner without doors facing the “cabinet” that would be on the other wall, but make the cabinet on the other wall a pull out island by adding casters so it rolls into and out of the space. When it’s pulled out the open cabinet in the corner could have flat slab pull outs that pull into the open cavity and on top of those slabs have pullouts with the drawer glides turned the other way so that they pull into the room like a normal drawer. Way less lost space in a small kitchen, but you wouldn’t want frequently used items stored in that corner.

The low drawer for the plates makes my back cry.

I have a pullout table. It gives me additional countertop space. Very useful during dinners with friends to organise both things to serve and dirty dishes that I'll put in the dishwasher later.

I thought the wasp thing at first was not real! Oh my gosh. I do love the couch that turns to a bed. That's a build that I've been wanting to make!

For the rolling cans idea, after lowering the front edge of the shelf you could use a screw in type rod (with a barrel style screw in holder) screwed into the original spot. These type of rods are also designed for inside mounting on windows. I have wooden ones in a few of my windows. Also, if using a tension rod this would work best with face frame cabinets and mount the tension rod behind the face frame.

Toekick drawers would be great for baking sheets, cutting boards and other large flat pieces.

Those break apart organizers can be configured to ANY size. They just gave an example using little compartments.

    1. toe kick: yes, only if hidden and used to hide my treasure
    2. McGyver cabinet: love it
    3. cushion in cabinet: hate it
    4. slide out counter: love it and hides beautifully
    5. 90 degree slide out: no, use a deeper drawer and use pull out shelving
    6. hidden drawer in a drawer: nope ... wasted space
    7. drawer organizer: hate cheap plastic, bamboo is ok
    8. table flips to a shelf: hate it and would be a disaster
    9. retractable furniture: only for an RV or micro apartment
    10. pop up cabinet: yuck... might break
    11. tension rod: not strong enough; pull outs are better
    12. binder clips on rod: no, and there are better solutions out there

Toe kick drawer seems great for pot lids!

I thought I saw a potato bin there! I've seen a toe kick drawer that hid a folding step stool. That would be good to have and/or a collapsible broom.

I think the hidden drawer compartment for cash is not about hiding it from people in the household but hiding it from a thief. My husband had his house broken into twice (two different houses) and they pulled all the drawers out of the dresser looking for things to steal. All that convertible furniture is pretty cool but it sees like every example I’ve seen is made of particle board, which I really don’t care for.

I had to put on the subtitles as I didn’t understand when you said toekick (I’ve always know it as a plinth! 🇬🇧). I love the idea of hidden compartments/drawers. I always need somewhere to hide jewellery or documents if I go away on holiday. Great video! ❤️

Great video Mark! I love the tipped shelf!! It would be so much easier to see how many cans of what you have when making a grocery shopping list AND it would free up space on a lazy Susan.😄

Great video. THANKS so much for the measuring guide. 🙂👍 I think the toe kick drawers are too low for me, though it is a cool idea and some people seem to like them.

I feel like the less movable parts, the better. because once things start breaking, it becomes difficult to replace. And cleaning those cabinets is a nightmare.

Hi Mark, There are also Toe-kick risers, which I am interested in putting in the base cabinets at my kitchen sink. I was never tall (maybe in a former life!), but I am losing height as I age. My Grandfather did this in a house for my Grandmother (where my lack of height comes from), and it was just a couple of inches, but it improved her kitchen functionality immensely! (40 years ago). Thank you for the ideas.

First off, love the hat! I also love the video... James Bond level kitchen renovation. Lol some of this seems impossible, but strategically placed drawer glides and pivot hinges are a powerful thing! I feel like the slide out countertop and the hinged store away countertop ideas might actually catch on. Oh and the shelf into a table is awesome.

4:25 you are not required to put the cubes so close together. They can even be rectangles for spatulas, etc. They still look cheap, but better than doing it with cereal boxes, lol
7:00 I just saw similar chairs used in a tiny home episode last night. Good solutions for tight spaces!
Thanks for the caution on the slanted shelves; I was thinking the same thing about the tension rod. Also, it will only work if there is a notch in the bottom of the board, otherwise the entire board will slide down!
I did the binder clip/ tension rod hack when the kids were tiny, but not for chips. I stored their various activities (stringing beads, magnetic stickers, flash cards, etc) in ziplock bags and then hung the bags up in a cabinet. It worked really well as long as I was the one maintaining it. The kids didn't always put them back but just dumped them in the cabinet. After a couple years we finally got rid of it. But it is worth a try if you are able to keep up with the maintenance of it.

Secret compartment for your g u n. (You don’t even need a permit where I live so we think this way.)
That tension rod trick is golden. Even with my new cabs I can see this being useful.

The tension rod sloped can shelf is so inventive and I love it BUT who hasn’t had a shower curtain on a tension rod fall down at least once? I feel like it’s a supremely clever idea which is about to kill a child with fifty falling cans 😂
But a rod that is secure enough, brilliant. You could add semi-circular rod brackets in front of it very cheaply and be more secure in the knowledge that you or your kids won’t be murdered by soup.

For the can shelf hack, I'm not a physics expert, but if you lower the front end what is keeping the shelf itself from sliding forward since it is not connected to anything, especially if its at a pretty steep angle?
