    It is time for the newest instalment in that beloved cinematic automotive UA-cam experience where we film practical cars that can be bought for less than £1,000 in a manner befitting of their inexpensive value! This may go horribly wrong (and frequently does)...
    This time, as we test a 2000 Saab 9-3 (OG) Cabriolet/Convertible 2.0t SE, we have to deal with typical British weather, mumbling about Saab H and B engines, difficulties with describing steering rack strengthening devices and drone on about very little of any importance at all. Nothing untoward, then...

    I love a Saab. In my opinion the styling has aged amazingly well and prices are ridiculously low. So much car for not much money. Thanks for the review!

      Indeed, sir! I think that this is a nice looking car, I would personally have the five door hatchback, but the Cabriolet is quite practical for this type of car, and it seems pretty quick. Thank you for watching!

    I happen to have ridden in one years ago, with the top down. Absolutely delightful! There is a website where you still can get original SAAB parts and accessories for SAAB vehicles.
    Quite a few of these still on the road where I reside in the US.

      Glad you enjoyed it, sir! Yes, a nice car to ride in, extremely comfortable.

    Got the LPT 154bhp version of the same car in Auto form . Not a dragster by any means , although putting in Sport button on the Auto does certainly give the car a duel personality. The engine is wonderfully refined ( especially as I’ve changed oil every 1000 miles or so!) I’ve seen 40 mpg at motorway 60 mph cruising but generally around 33 - 35 mpg touring , around 25 mpg around town. Parts supply for service parts generally ok , the Saab owners club helpful . There is a general air of quality that you can feel in the car , perhaps even better than more modern German marques without the arrogance surrounding their models, don’t expect out and out sportscar behaviour on the road but they still feel very safe ( as you expect in a Saab ! ) and sure footed on the road. Still ok for diy mechanics, Haynes manuals available etc but some parts expensive , but extremely well made.

      Thank you very much indeed for watching, Martin! Yes, I drove an automatic one of these (a three door hatchback) on the channel in May last year. The engine is indeed very refined, and I have heard that the parts supply in general is quite good, considering how old these are now. I have an old Rover 45 V6, so I know what it is like to have to try to get bits for an obsolete make! Great to hear that these are reasonably all right for the DIY mechanics too...

    Superb cars .So underrated . Friend was a traffic cop for twenty plus years . Attended many fatal accidents and he never attended an accident involving a Saab where the occupants died . Indeed minor injuries were more the norm. He rated a Saab much better than a Merc or a Volvo in this respect . By the way , his usual jam sandwich varied from Cavalier Sri and Senator to Volvo various. All quick cars . I think the Senator was his best drive

      Thank you, sir! We did like this one, and they are quite underrated, I would agree. Definitely a very safe car for the time, and also one which allows a lot of fun with this engine too!

    Stunning value, very safe and the turbos are very cheaply mapped for more power by Noobtune for peanuts (not that I’ve been looking much!)

      Very good, sir! Yes, these are still very good value at the moment, the hatchback versions are even cheaper, I think.

    Excellent Review Sir, I never realised that it was a mark 3 Cavalier for some reason I was thinking Vectra or was that the 9-5?? Otherwise a lovely looking Saab, Shame they no longer exist as they were quite innovative at the time.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, all three cars (Mark III Cavalier, 9-5 and Vectra B) all basically shared the same platform along with this 9-3, and there were absolutely tonnes of others as well!

    Excellent Review. Excellent Car. Easily the equal of all German cars but with character.
    The same way that a Rover SD1, 800 OR 75 has traditional luxury and innovation, a SAAB has engineering, comfort, bulletproof build and oodles of soul.
    I am not knocking German cars because they are the best in the World but Swedish Cars are as good, especially SAAB.

      Sir, we did very much like this lovely old Saab, although personally I think the five door hatchback would be more practical for me. Definitely an awful lot of character, and a good deal of fun too!

    Excellent MR Lloyd, I do like the Saab, wouldn't mind a comparison between it and the C70 convertible of the same age.

      @lloydvehicleconsulting  2 роки тому +1

      We would like to have a go in a C70, sir, it just depends on whether we can get our hands on one...

      The Mk1 C70 was a lovely design especially the convertible, very classy, more so than the Saab. Spec wise one would have the SE Lux which is pretty rare, electric seats both sides.

      @@paulie-Gualtieri. , it's all very nice, sir, but it is going to depend on if I actually get offered one, sadly...

    Was it a small 't " for low pressure and large 'T' for the high pressure?

    These convertible 9-3 are getting quite expensive here in Denmark, good used ones go for around 12000GBP and up...

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Рік тому

      Well, round here you can still buy them for under £1000, although they won't be in great condition if you do! Thank you ever so much indeed for watching.

    Nice car even if pretty old now. But is it even possible to get exclusive spare parts for the cabriolet? I mean the soft roof, doors, rear wings, etc.

      I think so, there are a lot of Saab specialists in this country, and they have a strong following, but I could be wrong!

    can you tell me how bad the scuttle shake on this car was like?

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  11 місяців тому

      It wasn't too bad, I have certainly driven convertibles where it was a lot worse.

  • @roygardiner2229

    It's reasonably good looking, if somewhat bland.
    The high fuel consumption is a more serious negative, however, at least for me.

      Yes, it's a trait of these old-fashioned turbo-charged engines, I am afraid, but it is a lot of fun. Thank you for watching, sir!
