It hit me like a fucking truck. I watched this at work and I had to hold back tears. It's like, somewhere in my mind I KNEW people were dead and I KNEW these works were from the studio, but it only just clicked personally on how the two are related.
Especially for me, I hadn't heard this news yet so I thought they'd died of old age or something. Then there was a burning building on screen and everything clicked.
LifeWulf *_remembers that Kazuma ended up getting good "trash" girls as teammates and he's not freaking overpowered_* Yeah, remember Konosuba? Not everything goes as planned when Isekai'd.
Back in 2018 I almost killed myself but after silent voice and mostly Violet Evergarden it save my life . Thank you Kyoto animation. Watching Violet Evergarden movie in 2020 I still fall in love with the story and cry back in 2018 .
@@koruton9925 I disagree, I can say I'd do the same but in the face of such danger, I'm not sure I would. People like the construction worker are incredible people.
It hit even harder when digibro said almost the exact same thing a few days ago. Now that I mention it this video is almost exsactly the same with the same cut to black and everything almost like he ripped digi off hmmmmm
Lucky star made me laugh, K-on made me sing, Haruhi Suzumiya made me dance, Clannad made me cry, Nichijou made me smile, KyoAni made me understand anime.. thank you for being my childhood.. rest in piece..
And i feel a bit like a absolute jerk for not hearing of this news until about several days after the events that unfolded when i was informed about it in a UA-cam comment section.
I believe thats the worst feeling for a fan to hear. To know the person who made that anime that you love is gone and was snuff away in a horrible and tragic event. I have watched animes and read mangas that wasnt finished by the author or people behind it because of personal or medical issues. But this will certainly leave a dark mark for they were taken away by such a horrible crime.
Really hits you when you realize that whoever developed the soundtrack, was simply doing their job. Yet here we are, Gigguk, a man they never knew, never met, and never knew existed, had played their exact piece note by note on the other side of the world. Wonderful how even if we can't live forever, our impacts-even the ones you least expect-can survive for generations. As there might always be someone, somewhere, playing or even remembering your work, if it even is for an instant.
Rest in peace Yasuhiro Takemoto, director of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, Full Metal Panic, Hyouka, Amagi Brilliant Park, Dragon Maid, Lucky Star, and High Speed! Free Starting Days. Some of these shows and films were integral parts of my teenage years, and I'm sure that even the ones I haven't seen have affected many others.
What director of hyouka??, the most season 2 anime that I ever want in my entire life and now even it will have season 2 it's must be feel different,I'm so sad for director and I'm so angry for the man who did this horrible thing to a place that brought many wonderful work for so many people
It hit me so hard. Just thinking of that beautiful piece of music from Disappearance that moved me when I watched it, and how so many talented people who gave so much emotion and feeling to me are gone. It resonates with me so much and brought me to tears. I totally feel what Giguk must be describing and how despite the large scale of this tragedy it feels personal. I can’t begin to imagine how those involved and their loved ones feel after this tragedy that has changed the path of their lives forever. Pray for KyoAni
"I don't even know if the people that made this are alive anymore" The director of Haruhi, Yasuhiro Takemoto, is still missing and can be presumed dead. It's like everyday since the fire more bad news comes out.
Nichijo aka My Ordinary Life is funny at a level I stopped expecting from anime years ago. Silly and fun so even if you don’t LOL you still smile. Melancholy and it’s follow-up film Disappearance were frustrating. Maybe my expectations were too high. I will have to watch more from the studio.
"They say you don't know what you have until its gone. Truth is, you knew what you had, you just thought you'd never lose it" Lets hope this doesn't happen again
Yes especially loved ones and pets but sadly I can't feel anything for I have seen children getting ripped to shreds I held a little girl who's neck got slashed before she told me it hurts and to make it stop so 😭I did I barely twisted and pop her neck snapped but before her last breath she said thank you before I saw her soul leaving her body into the heavens her soul went waving at me with a beautiful smile that was the day my feelings left now I want to help but can't as spinal stenosis got me first
I've recently learned a tiny thing about this. The anime "Fire Force" had a scene in the ending where the orphan house is burning and there are people dying insisde. After the Kyoto tragedy happened, the ending was censored. And the anime wasn't airing for few weeks. All this as an act of respect. The creators though it'd be disrespectfu to air an anime about fire monsters right after you heard the news about the actual fire.
@@imayworkatmcdonaldsbutimri1076 To them this would be a 2 weeks gap without money from the diffusion, the money lost is more important than the people's lifes. The only thing they'd do is some statement made in 15 minutes regarding the families of the victims so they look good.
@@EdgyRick To an extent I understand that, but on videos like this where the money is going to the cause. Like on this or Casey Nistetat's (probably butchered that last name) video with the Las Vegas shooting, it just shows how much of a shithole UA-cam is becoming for their creators when the news channels, late-night talk shows, and other just to be TV things still gets add revenue on videos on the exact same topic, but *without* the promise for the money to go to charity. It's just a shitty move, and I wish youtube got more flack for that, but if he can't out the ad revenue from this vid to the cause I will gladly help make up for the difference.
UPDATE: UA-cam have confirmed by manual review that the this video is demonetized. That's why there are no ads, unfortunately it won't be generating ad revenue. I'm guessing it's because I talked about the tragedy and that goes against their terms. In light of this I'll forego waiting the 2 weeks and I'll add an extra $500 on top of my personal donation, hopefully that makes up a bit of the lost revenue at least.
kim jaehee I hope so too some. of there projects are left in the air too. I hope they are still able to push through this tragedy and continue there beautiful work. They didn’t deserve this they where just trying to give people joy, and instead this guy comes in to the building and starts this fire.
If you think about it... What will the ones who are still alive do?If KyoAni shutsdown than all of the employes will be unemployed, including the injured ones.I don't think that they will want to lose their jobs too imo 🤔 But,of course, they might get traumatized and won't come back even after they heal up,but some of them,I'm pretty sure will come back after a while...
@@toxicfart1913 I think (and hope) that if they get back up with the help and support from anime fans and donations, they will make the studio a lot more secure and have a bunch of emergency procedures so that something like that doesn't ever happen again. Idk that's what I thought.
you know an animation studio has captured your heart when you start crying over a video made by a guy you never met in which he shows his gratitude towards people both of you never met but also will never be able to meet now. KyoAni changed my life and many others. I seriously can't describe how I feel because of all this, but I also want to thank you Gigguk. Thank you for all your wonderful content and everything you do.
Birbo its the first video ive seen of him And it hit me so hard No words can describe what i feel like but he has worded it so well They did not deserve this, they were too precious to end like this I hope they still keep on touching hearts like it touched mine the first time i saw their work
Apologies if this is a little raw, I couldn't think of any other way to approach it. I wanted to get this out a bit earlier but I was travelling when the tragedy happened, and was unable to make anything until now. All the info you need to support this tragedy is in the description.
The lesser spoken part of the tragedy is that they lost EVERYTHING. All the physical and digital copies of everything they were working on. Not only do they need to mourn the dead, they need to restart, from scratch, on everything they were working on.
Yes, i kept thinking about this nonstop! Not only were lives lost and talents forever gone but even all the documents and hard work they've been focusing on all burned into ashes, never to be retrieved again. It'll take a LOT amount of time to recover everything and start again, but even then... it undeniably won't be the same and only the remaining workers know how much they lost in the fire.
I was looking forward to the upcoming Violet Evergarden Movie. What your saying brings a another level of pain to this. My first thought was that any good business should have offsite backups for their digital data, but this is Japan. They probably don't have disasters of this level happen very often. And Data backup can be expensive...
That line, that "I don't even know if the people who made this are alive anymore" hit me like a truck. This is a truly saddening loss for the anime community. May they rest in peace, knowing that they have changed the anime landscape and inspired so many people. #prayforkyoani
For me, free! was that life-changing anime. Being a twelve-year-old girl when it was released, many assumed my love for it was due to the female-oriented fan service or the obvious BL-undertones, but in truth I’d hardly noticed any of that back then - all it had been for me was a touching story that brought a sense of hope to a kid going through a hard time. Even now, the show can make me laugh and cry the way it did back then, even with the acknowledgement of how over-the-top it can tend to be :’) Hearing about the deaths of Futoshi Nishiya, Yasuhiro Takemoto, and the many others who dedicated their time and talent to the franchise that shaped my early teenage years hurts in a way that’s beyond comprehensible. May they and all the other victims rest in peace, and know that their effort and dedication will forever be recognized ❤️
i watched free with my best friends from a swim team when i was in middle school! it gave us so many laughs and something to relate to. outside of the fanservice, the story is beautiful and it definitely shaped my early teens as well~ i know it’s been a while since the fire, but kyoani impacted me in so many ways, and i’d also like to say thanks to all the creatives who dedicated their time to making something so special.
I was in my late 28 when Free came out. I really liked it and it had a good story to it but because it was more of a Shojo anime with somewhat male fan service lots of people called me homosexual. I didn't care what people thought because it is a good anime.
Man I cried when I heard about it and now I'm crying again. May the 34 amazingly talented people rest in peace. Thank you for sharing these beautiful things with us.
The first series I watched in entirety from KyoAni was Beyond the Boundary, and it still had a special place in my heart for how beautiful it was and how sad it could make me feel
After watching this video, I realized how much I took Kyoto Animation's anime for granted. I know it is too late to say this, but thank you Kyoto for everything you have given us.
I just remembered about all of this, rewatched some of Kyoani's work that touched me the most, and I just broke down crying. Multiple times. This studio changed my life and I will forever be grateful to them. Thank you, Kyoto Animation.
@@krimson8317 may I ask what works were those, personally it was koe no katachi that taught me the expanses of music and what animation as a whole could do, violet evergarden helped me understand the many ways and importance of communication and k-on showed the struggles yet wonder if travel
Kyoto Animation was the first and only anime studio to change my life especially after seeing A Silent Voice. There were countless shows this studio made that moved me in so many ways that it brought me to tears when my dad texted me about what happened. I’ll never forget how this studio was able to make me cope with my mental health. And I will forever be grateful for discovering this community.
Kyoto never deserved this. No company or just anyone should deserve this type of treatment that one psycho decided to do. When you anger a community, you don't anger one person, you anger everyone within that group. It's best we mourn for the fallen employees at Kyoto Animations and help them, like when they helped us out with their spectacular shows that all meant something within our hearts. This one event will not set us back, but will set us forward for the future!
@@monkeydoespride totally, it just puzzles me that someone would have the absolute brains to do this. It was someone who didnt care for the people inside that building. Hope he gets punished SEVERELY
@@monkeydoespride Can we? Not to sound cynical, but look at what happened to RWBY: It was an amazing show (not perfect, but still amazing), but once Monty died it all started going downhill and now if I never hear again of it or of Rooster Teeth at all it'll still be too soon. Many of those who died there were not exactly replaceable cogs in the machine that made the studio work; they were the creative masterminds behind it. Will someone really be able to equal their talent? Will they be able to surpass it? There is a huge chance they won't. At this stage it would not surprise me if the studio even closes after this tragedy, as they have lost all their material, physical and digital. And even if they somehow rebuild, there is an even bigger chance it will not be the same. All I can say is, don't hold your breath. If this is not the end of Kyoto Animation altogether, it might be the end of the studio as we know it.
@@LeonValCh I get what you mean, its the most realistic side of what might happen. But that's the great thing about the future, it's very unpredictable! So you are definitely are not wrong, but to put it into a more....positive way of thinking, I hope they will bounce back to what they were originally were or even better! I might be sounding unrealistic, but the unpredictability is what makes the future of Kyoto even more intriguing!

I couldn't think of a name A Silent Voice made me realize there is some good left in the world, it also made me realize how much seemingly minuscule things can affect people’s lives in many ways. It changed me from being a unconcerned asshole into someone who lives to make a positive impact on all

One of the victims, Yoshiji Kigami, was in charge original pictures of the battle scene in the drainage of AKIRA. He was a true artist and a legend. RIP.
@Jacob Locklear I was the only one awake late at night reading manga when I was 8 and then I saw them outside setting fire to the cars and house. I guess you can say manga saved my life.
You can literally hear his voice waver a bit when he says "I don't even know if the people who made this are alive anymore". You can tell how much this means to him just from that. The only thing that gives me any hope about this situation is the support and coverage that KyoAni is getting. It's good, this needs to be seen by the world. Just look at the go-fund-me, they're 1.25 million dollars over their goal. And while that can't replace the lives of the wonderful people lost in this travesty, with any luck it will be able to get them back on their feet. I can only see this going two ways. One, they recover and use this as fuel to bounce back harder than ever. Two... this hurts them too badly and they either shut down immediately or get up and slog forward for a bit before dying out. I sincerely hope it's the former.
The studio most likely won't survive that. All remaining employees probably suffer from PTSD now. And honestly, even if it wasn't KyoAni, but some completely underwater studio that pushed crap works one after another, it'd be still exactly the same tragedy.
This episode cracked me up, im finally able to show my emotions, wich i always had closed in myself, i let them all out. and i never stopped, because it feels good showing emotions :)
@Zandabyte no, that's not what missing means in this sense. We only have 3 confirmed names that are safe which are Yamada (Silent Voice, K-On, Tamako etc) Ishihara (Eupho, FMP I believe and others) and Ishidate (VEG, Kyoukai no Kanata etc) everyone else is unconfirmed whether they're among the people that survived or not missing means we have no information about them, just as we dont about almost 70 other people please don't spread any baseless rumors and wait for official confirmation before making comments about this 🙏
I've gotten back here after the recent news of the trial. Nearly 5 years on and it still hurts knowing that people that put their heart and soul into the craft they are passionate about, the people that helped create stories we love, the people that helped us in some way without even knowing, are gone from this world or severely injured. I go back and watch The Disappearence of Haruhi Suzumiya near every 18th December. I always thought the colour design on the film is amazing, the vibrant colours of the world we're so familiar to that goes as that day comes in the film and we're left in this grey world with Kyon who is faced with what he took for granted, and as soon as Haruhi recognises Kyon as John Smith, we cut to a cafe that has that vibrant tone back as a glimpse of hope. The colour designer Naomi Ishida was one of the victims. Her mother dressed her up in a kimono for a funeral that was intended for when she was married.
The goal is 750.000$ and the donations are 2 million $... This shows how much KyoAni is loved, a fanbase that brought us all here to donate and respect to the most inspiring, lovable Animation Studio in the world...
Kyoani are a unique and incredible studio who cared more about delivering a high quality product than maximizing profits. Violet Evergarden is proof of this with it's immense production values.(highest on a tv anime ever) They are also known to provide their employees with a good working environment and pay their animators proper salaries instead of per frame like the rest of the industry.(incentivizing quality over quantity) This tragedy has cost the lives of 34 hard working people, injured over 30 others and destroyed decades of work and legacy. This is too sad, they didn't deserve this. All we can do now as a community is try to look forward positively and hope they return stronger than ever. #prayforkyoani WE ARE WAITING

When I heard about the fire on the radio a week ago they just referred to it as ‘a Japanese animation studio that made high school life shows’ and that doesn’t exactly narrow it down. I came in to this video without knowing that this studio was the one that was attacked, and I also didn’t realize this singular studio was responsible for so many of the early anime shows I watched. Thanks for putting all of this together.

I'm going to be honest. I am a deaf violinist and hearing aids barely help. KyoAni made a series of anime that were really relatable like A Silent Voice and Hibike! Euphonium. I feel that right now we are Kumiko and KyoAni is Asuka. And we just don't want to say goodbye either. We will never forget all the people that died on that day. Their love and passion will live forever as long as their work remains near to our hearts. Thank you for everything and please stay strong KyoAni.
I know this is very late, but thank you so much for such a great tribute that both respected the work of Kyoto Animation and the people who lost their lives. It has been frustrating to see responses like "but what about season x of xyz anime??" and "who's going to make my favorite show now??" as though the effect on real human lives in this or any large tragedy isn't as important as the fact that it happened to be an anime studio. I really appreciate Gigguk's way of talking about the impact KyoAni's works have had on him while still prioritizing the actual events as the real important part of it.
Let’s hope for god that one day Kyoto animation will return to us stronger and better together and what have happened would be a lesson for future generations what this artform represents to us
KyoAni burned to the the ground. But you know what? It's not all bad. Just like a Phoenix reborn from its own ashes KyoAni will rise again. I know it will. It will rise and return stronger than ever before.

From what i've heard the person who committed the arson apparently did it from a claim of the studio copying their work, I've also heard they were just some insane fan i'm not sure
I read somewhere that the possibility of Kyoani to exist in the future is absolutely zero to none. Even after the tragedy, those affected will spend most of their time in hospital and later on evaluated for traumas, this process might take a life time and most will either retire or go back to the workforce and work somewhere else and those unaffected right now do not work at Kyoto Animation Studio at this point and are jobless, these people might have to abandon ship and work at various other animation studios at this point. Even if the CEO gets compensated by the insurance company for the building, I don't think he'll start working again for a while and will go into hiatus from work, even if Kyoani miraculously don't end up getting shut down, they lost all their colleagues/friends in the tragedy, a lot of materials went up in flames and the future Kyoani will never be the same as the one we once knew. It wouldn't surprise me if the CEO resigned and either retire or join a different company at this point, we might never see Kyoto Animation Studio open their doors ever again.
Silent Voice was the first Anime to make me cry It makes my heartache that they were murdered by a mad man who ran in pouring gasoline all over them screaming "die" I lose more hope in humanity every day
I've both lost and gained hope in humanity with the tragedy of this event, the madman made me loose hope, the coming together of this community has made me gain hope.
All of their animation were just amazingly made. They didn’t feel like something that was rushed by some big corporate, wanting to make a quick buck. Even though it’s not much I donated 5$. Thank you Kyoto animations for everything.
Don't worry, $5 is a lot! If one person donates $5, it isn't much. But get a 100,000 and you get $500,000! Every bit of help is absolutely appreciated no matter how small the deed is.

A few people started commenting on my piano cover of this "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya" song, that you played and they said that they come from this video~ I already saw this video yesterday but now I want to share my comment with you! You're right, all Anime that Kyoto Animation created are magical! The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was one of my first Anime I watched and the first that reached my heart! I loved Kyon's monologue and Haruhi, how she triggers Kyon with every movement! (He just wanted to see Cosplay photos from Mikuru haha) I still can't belivie what happened at the Kyoto Animation Studio! It's something that you not expect at all! The people at the Kyoto Animation Studio made Anime we loved watching since we were kids and till now even as adults we watch them! ... right now we don't even now if these people who created our favourit Anime are alive or not ... to be honest ... I don't want to think about this! Not in a "look away" way, but in a "It's too emotional for my heart" way! I probably sound stupid right now. I think I wrote enough! Thanks Gigguk for your video by sharing your thoughts! oh, and again, here is the link to the KyoAni charity: www.gofundme.com/help-kyoani-heal
I Just discovered that almost all my favorite animes is from them. I never check who make the animes I watch, but from reading a comment here on yt under a video from violet evergarden, I finally did. Reading "pray for KyoAni" thinking is that the maker? And knowing something bad has happend was a horrible feeling. And so discovering that they have made many other works close to my heart, broke it. I deeply hope they will crawl out of the dark and up into the light again and continue their stunning work. I haven't really checked how they're doing now since this video is from 8months ago, but I couldn't stop myself from writing this comment. Thank you KyoAni for all the feels and happy memories.
*Dear Kyoto Animation,* On July 18, our loved Studios was caught in a fire with 33 feared dead. A man in his 40s came in and poured gasoline and yelled, "Die! Die!" As he lighted it up with fire. There were about 70 people in the building and only about half came out alive. My heart stopped when I heard this. KyoAni changed my life in so many ways. Its lessons in its animes means a lot to me. Violet Evergarden, A Slilent Voice, Free!, the list goes on. KyoAni was one of those few studios that treated there animators like people. Most animators are very poor due to the low pays. KyoAni was different. They gave there workers a good pay. They've changed so many lives. There work policy was better than most. Thank you KyoAni, for being such an amazing Studio. We fans will support you and be waiting for your recovery. Rest In Piece, your work changed lives. Please Support them and donate! We can't wait till your back on your feet and continue to make amazing animes that change lives. *Love, us fans.*
I'm not sure those were his exact words. As a matter of fact, he said quite a bit more, giving an entire minute long speech according to three witnesses.
"I don't even know if the people who made this are alive anymore."
That line was a gut punch.
I read this as he said it.. yea it's fucked up...

I've recently learned a tiny thing about this. The anime "Fire Force" had a scene in the ending where the orphan house is burning and there are people dying insisde. After the Kyoto tragedy happened, the ending was censored. And the anime wasn't airing for few weeks. All this as an act of respect. Reporting on a tragedy is not suitable for advertisers, unless it's CNN or whatnot.

To an extent I understand that, but on videos like this where the money is going to the cause.

The lesser spoken part of the tragedy is that they lost EVERYTHING. All the physical and digital copies of everything they were working on. Not only do they need to mourn the dead, they need to restart, from scratch, on everything they were working on.
Jonathan Wessner did they really lose all of their work?
Yes, i kept thinking about this nonstop! Not only were lives lost and talents forever gone but even all the documents and hard work they've been focusing on all burned into ashes, never to be retrieved again. I couldn't think of a name A Silent Voice made me realize there is some good left in the world, it also made me realize how much seemingly minuscule things can affect people’s lives in many ways. It changed me from being a unconcerned asshole into someone who lives to make a positive impact on all
The movie made me realize not to be a asshole to because i get embarrassed by some disabled people and thats not ok
Corona changed it
Oh yeah did you know that in the manga there is more then the anime movie sfter the festval i wont spoil but on the last page shoya and shoko holding hands together
k-on taught me guitar. no joke. In high school, i picked up a guitar after watching and started learning angel beats songs. I like how every kyoani series has a special vibe to it. Hope they'll be back to producing more anime in the future after a period recovery.

I didn't watch even one show the studio made and I still feel sad for them, not sad enough to read a four page letter about how "he's sad too"
The studio most likely won't survive that. All remaining employees probably suffer from PTSD now. And honestly, even if it wasn't KyoAni, but some completely underwater studio that pushed crap works one after another, it'd be still exactly the same tragedy.

One of the victims was apparently a director of K-on. That literally broke me.
They’re confirmed safe, but the director of dragon maid, lucky star, and haruhi as well as many others is missing
Wait what..no please say they’re okay some of mg favorite shows, truly masterpieces, their directors are dead? Oh no....
Richard Tran not confirmed yet, just missing
@Zandabyte no, that's not what missing means in this sense. We only have 3 confirmed names that are safe which are Yamada (Silent Voice, K-On, Tamako etc) Ishihara (Eupho, FMP I believe and others) and Ishidate (VEG, Kyoukai no Kanata etc) everyone else is unconfirmed whether they're among the people that survived or not
missing means we have no information about them, just as we dont about almost 70 other people
please don't spread any baseless rumors and wait for official confirmation before making comments about this 🙏
Lets pray they’re found 🙏
I've gotten back here after the recent news of the trial.

*Dear Kyoto Animation,*
On July 18, our loved Studios was caught in a fire with 33 feared dead.
