URGH I had to restart this because Rodney exited off of it when I was halfway through! Butsrsly you look soooo amazing and your outfit makes your EYES look violet!!
You're right; a lot of these names do sound so magical and royal. I like Cecily! Reminds me of Cecily Cardew from The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. Rohesia is lovely. Adelaide is really nice. Berengaria is very unique... might be interesting for a character. Love Rosamund. Thomasina reminds me of that movie about the cat (can't remember the exact title now). Ooo I love Guinevere. Isolde is also lovely. I love Arthur! Gilbert is rather cute. Roland always reminds me of the poem, Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came. Faramond is cool. I adore Walter, one of my favorites! Alfred would be cute with the nickname Alfie. That is SO cool that you're related to Alfred the Great! Edmund is another favorite name of mine--I prefer it over Edward. It makes me think of Edmund in the Chronicles of Narnia. Great video!
I'm trying to name a female character for my book which is based in the 1600's. Everyone seems to be named Mary, Elizabeth, Catherine or Anne and I can't find a name that suits her. Maybe Alice...? Guinevere is so beautiful but idk if it sounds too medieval...
I'm crushing on Hugh so badly at the moment. I picture gorgeous British actors. Thank you Hugh Dancy . It's such a great name with lovely associations. Alfred and Edmund are adorable. I love Eddie and Freddie. At the moment I'm obsessed with Welsh names. They have a certain magical quality about them. probably being my favourite.
On my mom's side. We are related to Edmund Waller. He wrote love letters to the Queen and got sent to prison. My great grandfather actually traced the Waller Family back a long time ago. It's fun reading the books and seeing the names. One of my favorites was one of my great grandparent's grandmother's name was Rosebud!
+Jessie Harms Whoah! What a cool story about that Edmund guy. That would make a really cool novel or short story or movie! You should find out more and write it!!!!!!!
Amelia EverythingBabyNames Can you please do a baby names list inspired by The Fast and The Furious? I really love some of the names that they used, and it'd be interesting to use for a baby boy or girl!
I typically don't like the name Rose as a first or middle name just because it is used so much, but I still think it sounds lovely.. But then I just saw Rohesia on this video and I am in love! Suchhh a cool alternative for Rose! Definitely sounds like a princess :)
Amelia EverythingBabyNames They are but I really love a lot of old names! I've decided to try and make my own name videos, so I created a whole new channel for it! I love this community. :-) (That's me that wrote the original comment, haha)
OMG, we're related! :D I am also descended from Alfred the Great! :D I'm sure lots of people are, but it's so cool to know it for sure, and to know HOW we're descended from him :D I'm descended from/related to lots of medieval royals. My most recent monarch ancestor is Edward III (1300s), so a looong way back, but still very cool :P I am related to all British monarchs along the line :) I worked out that I am 20th half-cousins once removed with Prince William, hehe :P Our most recent common ancestor that I am aware of is Ralph Neville the Earl of Westmorland, but Prince William is descended from his first wife and I am descended from his second, so that's why we're half-cousins :P And there is one generation difference, so that's why we're 20th half-cousins once removed :P Anyway, I am descended from Alfred the Great's daughter Elfthryth, Countess of Flanders :) I looove the name Matilda! :P I am descended from 3 royal Matildas: Matilda of Flanders - wife of William the Conquerer; Matilda of Scotland - wife of Henry I; and their daughter Empress Matilda :D So Matilda is not only a way to honour my Aussie heritage, it is also a family name! :D :P Adelaide is also a beautiful name :D So is Isolde! Rosamund makes me think of a story that Anne Shirley wrote in the second 'Anne' movie called 'Rosamund's Revenge' :P Of course, Gilbert also makes me think of 'Anne' *sigh* *swoon* :P And also Walter.
rohesia would add the perfect amount of spice to the middle name rose. ysolde sounds very enigmatic and having an unknown meaning only adds to the mystery!! my stepdads name is gilbert :p everyone calls him gibby haha.
I am loving the name Adelaide, is a good alternative for Alice which is my favorite, but is too popular in my country (There is no official baby names list in Brazil, but I risk saying that is number one). For boys, I also love Arthur, but is very popular here too (definitely on top 10). I really love old names and I think this list is so cool, but in English. Only Adelaide and Arthur sound good in Portuguese.
I've met or know someone with the same names of almost half this list. I guess a lot of Hispanics use older names, my great grandfather, grandfather, uncle and brother all have the name Gilbert.
I love Cecily, it's such a guilty pleasure name for me. Adelaide was once in my top 10 but I don't think the nickname Addie will be easy to avoid. Arthur is my #1 boy name. I love Walter, Alfred, Edmund and Hugh. And Everard is so lovely, I think I've completely fallen in love with it.
I really like Margery Cecily- i love many years Matilda- beautiful Adelaide-first i heard this name from katherine heigls second daughter Thomasina- yessss, the saccone jolys ;) Guinevere- i like Genevieve more. Gilbert- love it. And i love Gil or Gilbie. I would give a son the name Bertie Gilbert (also the name from a british actor) Percival- love love loe it. I love the nickname percy too. Everytime i think of Percival Ignatius Weasley ;) ♥
I think some of the greatest male Medieval names are Cedric, Merek, and Rowan. I think the names Adelaide and Rosamund are gorgeous, and some others I like are Alys (15th century Alice), Thea and Maerwynn. and don't even get me started on Shakespearean names
Victoria Gamble LOVE LOVE LOVE. I almost talked about Cedric but I just can't get over the Harry Potter Cedric Diggory association. Alys is sooooooo gorgeous! And any wynn name is just perfect. I think I did a whole video on wynn names like 3 years ago!
I've traced my ancestry back to 15 century Switzerland, to the great religious reformer Ulrich Zwingli. Though I do admit I'm not much of a fan of the name Ulrich or Zwingli. I know in America the name Zwingli is spelled Swingle, and I briefly met a woman whose last name was Swingle, so we may be distant relatives.
The latin medieval names you said for girls are all very used in Brazil. Also, Everard (latin "Everardo"), Arthur, Gilbert (latin "Gilberto"), "Walter" (portuguese "Valter") and Edmund (portuguese "Edmundo") are very usual in Brazil.
Y'all know Heidi is a nickname for Adelaide? Because in its original German form it's spelled Adelheid, and I love the heck out of Berengaria and Guinevere. Bear-spear, how cool is that?
+Mary Stewart Yes, Heidi is a nickname for Adelaide. Pretty cool. Did I put Adelaide in the video? If I did it was probably because by the late medieval period they were using that version, which I'm assuming has French influence. Adelheid is beautiful as well.
***** I also love Matilda. My great grandmother's name was Matilda and she went by Til or Tillie, so it'd be a nice family tie. I don't know if it'd go with our sibset and I don't think Dylan likes it very much.
Great video! My favorites are Cicily and Guinevere! So neat you are a descendant of royalty!! I would LOVE to look into my family tree and dig deep! How do you go about it? Is there a favorite site you use? Thanks! Keep up the wonderful videos!
Dandieelionn I use ancestry.com! It's wonderful. You can do a free 14 day trial and if you use those 14 days you can find out a lot and then cancel before you have to pay ;) It is quite expensive if you end up paying for it. But there are different packages you can get! So if you get some of your family together and decide to get an account for a year and all chip in that can be a good way to pay for a years worth of it!!!
+crazymonkey4744 Yes, because it's the number 36 most common name for BABIES being born in 2014 or 2015, I'm not sure what year's stats I used in this video. So you probably haven't met any... YET :D But you will likely be meeting some in the next 5-10 years :)
***** Interesting! I think Gilbert would be considered "an old man name" in English speaking countries as well. But people who like the Anne of Green Gables Novels are starting to use it again so I think we will see it come back into fashion in the next 20 years in North America.
Amelia EverythingBabyNames That's interesting. Also I commented before I saw you included Alfred in the video and that was my grandad's name so it made me very happy to see some people actually do still use it as I've never heard it here. (I'm from Switzerland if that can give you an idea). I've found that Japanese authors when they have to name foreigner character also go for more classic "old sounding" names, Gilbert or Elizabeth being names you often encounter for example.
Well I´m from Germany and most of the names with german roots sound great in English but kinda awkward in German. I think my favs are Everard and Margary =)
+Amelia EverythingBabyNames it is Marie :) The book I used said Guinevere meant white phantom and that Marie meant of the lake. I loved them together bc it reminded me of the lady of the lake! lol
Hayden Reagan Faye Harold Egbert Hugh Holden Indigo Hector Edward Ewan Ember for a boy Everard Arethusa Chloride Agatha Chlorine Agnes Alfredo Amos Wilfred Thomasina Margaret Marjorie Merlin Rosalie Roland Isolde India 🇮🇳 Idris Gilbert Faramond Winnow Hemp Faraway
La chanson de Roland hahah how I love your french accent ! Much admiration from France belle demoiselle ;)
I love most names you mentioned, especially Cecily and Edmund.
Percival was a knight name, he was king Arthur's knight who discovered the holy grail. He was part of the round table.
Loving this era...magic
I loved the Disney movie Matilda so it is on my list. And the first name you came up with was gorgeous too.
Margery reminds me too much of margerine
I have recently become obsessed in game of thrones and love some of the names in it!
i love the middle ages

+Keyra Dubbings Thank you so much!

Please do the video on medieval welsh names! I think it would be so interesting
In a play I just performed in, we had a girl playing a guy part whose name in the play was Tom, and we called her Thomasina
I got to about the late 1600s in my family tree. The most different names are Rosalba and Lucrezia from Italy. :)

Abella Isn't it just gorgeous! I have a sibset in my family tree from the middle ages and the sisters were Rohesia, Galiena (Gal-ee-en-ah) and Alice.
Also, I really like Roland and Rosamund from this list.
Julien Cloud The R names in this list are so great!

I love the name Guinevere an author is my older brothers middle name
Question, where did you find all these medieval names? I love them! Especially Cecily! And I think I’m not the only one to agree
The name Percival was used for a knight in the BBC show Merlin
Lady Matilda sounds nice!
I love the name Aelswith for a girl, and it means strong temple.
I have a list of medieval (and older!) names on my phone that I did in October and want to make a video about :D Sooo many interesting and cool names!
rohesia would add the perfect amount of spice to the middle name rose.
ysolde sounds very enigmatic and having an unknown meaning only adds to the mystery!!
my stepdads name is gilbert :p everyone calls him gibby haha.
ihavecrabs56 Awe Gibby! That's cute!

I like Hugh better with an E at the end. Don't ask why, but the spelling Hughe is just more appealing to me
isolde according to sheknows website is of Welsh origin meaning: beautiful or fair.
I think some of the greatest male Medieval names are Cedric, Merek, and Rowan. I think the names Adelaide and Rosamund are gorgeous, and some others I like are Alys (15th century Alice), Thea and Maerwynn.

***** I also love Matilda. My great grandmother's name was Matilda and she went by Til or Tillie, so it'd be a nice family tie. I don't know if it'd go with our sibset and I don't think Dylan likes it very much.

Male names 5:52
I love Margery, it is so cute! Much better than Marge or Margy.
Isolde means fighting the ice battle and it is Germanic (:
I would seriously consider Matilda if my husband liked it. Tillie as a nickname would be pretty cute.
Lulu Barretta I'm dying to know your name choices!!!!!!
I'm happy you're so excited :) I hope you like the name. Any guesses?
For a girl I think it's somewhere between 200 and 50 on the charts and it's going to very feminine. For a boy I have absolutely no idea.
It's actually not between 50 and 200 on the charts. But here are some names between those ranks that I like: Sadie, Lucy, Piper, and Eliza
OH MY GOSH YOU NEED TO GIVE ME A RIDDLE OR A HINT OR SOMETHING!!!!!!

you said matilda was number 36 most common name in the uk and wales iv never met someone with that name in my life time

I am in class with 3 Mathildas in the uk
i knew the nicest young man in high school named gilbert preuss. j.
That's funny because in French speaking countries , Gilbert and Roland are typical old men names and are completely out of fashion.
***** Interesting! I think Gilbert would be considered "an old man name" in English speaking countries as well. But people who like the Anne of Green Gables Novels are starting to use it again so I think we will see it come back into fashion in the next 20 years in North America.

Well I´m from Germany and most of the names with german roots sound great in English but kinda awkward in German. I think my favs are Everard and Margary =)
