  • In this video I discuss how we are influenced and effected by the music we listen to. It effects our thought patterns - how we think about ourselves and the people around us, and how we act.

Interesting to hear your thoughts on this. I listen to a lot of alternative music which I think would be really helpful to young people (I'm in my 50s). They definitely don't refer to women like you described. Even though I love music I only ever listen to it intentionally - usually when I doing stuff in the kitchen or cleaning. But not with airbuds. I think they are very isolating for people who always have in -because you don't even both to say hi if someone has them in.

Agree . Im in my 50s. I lived my youth in the 80s, and even then really didnt like a lot of popular music due to the content & sounds.
I enjoyed spending time with both sets of Grandparents growing up, & I realised that I really loved their music. Even then a real disconnect between old & new. ( Even though in some older songs there were sometimes lyrics & attitudes that weren't great. There are many different genres I like & enjoy, but also just love Birdsong.
Im glad youre addressing these issues to your own generation.

Yes, important issue. I make songs with lyrics that are more into a poetic landscape, and that can be interpreted in at least three differnt ways. So that the lyrics are open, not closed into one (damaging) direction. Also, as a female artist, there is still a lot of stigma of stereotypes in the music business. It is extremely difficult to «break» as an artist if you are making music that are something else than the stereotype thing.
It’s good to start talking about these things❤

Some music and lyrics can make me hate myself, encouraged old su thoughts, general sadness or jealous where I had none before and a previous eating disorder. Some music I can only listen to in the gym.

Hey. I definitely agree with the whole sexualisation of music, and how young children and people are exposed to this. It’s really sad. (I a, a parent of 2, so I get it).
However, as someone with depression (who loves different kinds of music like classical, goth, metal, medieval and folk etc) sometimes the Heavy “darker” stuff helps. It allows many people to go through the emotions and things and it brightens our day. But I guess that is coming from someone who likes a lot of different things but I probably have a healthy balance of different types.
