  • In this video I'll be sharing with you guys my experience using blender with the M1 Max. I've been practicing blender for the past 4 months and as time goes I have continued to work on more difficult project and the M1 Max is proven to be quite a potential product for people who are looking to start working on as a blender professional with limited budget.

I work for an architecture firm, and to be honest, Apple's M1 chip series still isn't up to par for 3D work like Blender. Not to mention the unavailable software on Macs, such as 3ds Max, V-Ray, and Corona Render. And for architects, Revit isn't available on Macs either.
Nvidia RTX GPUs are beasts in 3D rendering performance, especially when the Optix API and denoising are utilized. My RTX 3060 performs even better than the M1 Ultra Mac Studio, with the only downside being less VRAM.
Here in my country, the best MacBook Pro you can buy is the 16-inch M3 Max model, costing $4400 USD, with a 16-core CPU, 40-core GPU, 48GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. Meanwhile, for the same price, I can get a Lenovo Legion with an i9 13900HX, RTX 4080, 32GB of RAM, and a 2TB SSD for $3200 USD, which runs faster than the M3 Max. Additionally, you can still upgrade/replace/repair the RAM and SSD. Although i can't recommend laptops for heavy 3D works.
I just can't understand why someone would choose the MacBook M1 Max if performance is what they're looking for. With $2500 USD, you can build a PC with an RTX 4080 that performs much, much faster than the M3 Max.
If you need a portable device, just get the macbook air with its great battery life. It's enough to get light video/photo editing tasks done. But when it comes 3D rendering, where the performance is all you need, just get a PC in your home/office.
Try working with RTX GPUs (obviously not the lower budget RTX 2050 or 3050 models; go for 3080 or higher). You'll understand how much faster it is in viewport rendering and denoising performance when the Optix API is utilized. It feels like you're doing real-time path tracing rendering. ua-cam.com/video/5LR5fp24XM8/v-deo.html

thanks Im using Mac the m1 Mac mini .. and IM tempted to buy the M1 Max coz its cheap now and I want to learn blender on the sides .. but one thing was pulling away is that I saw in many reviews M1 Max + blander .. was the poor performance in the viewport specially with al the lights and materials on . .real time viewport render performance I can wait more time to render but at least the working process should be smooth ( at least in this price range machine) .. so if you are so kind,.. maybe you can trow me some light about how is the performance now in that regard? for example .. there's the mr elephant blender project you can download and try from their site.. do you know /tested how the M1 Max. ( and apple metal api) works /perform with latest blender ? it would help me a lot . thanks.
ps: from my research back at that time around 2021 .. to put an example apple MacBook Pro 16 with a external gpu( I can't remember rx 6700 I think it was) was giving 40-50 fps with mr elephant scene .. and M1 Max around 8-9 fps . if IM not mistaken

I am planning to purchase a MacBook m3pro since I work as a 2D animator and Macs are generally good for this kind of job. However, I also have plans to learn 3D animation using Blender. Some people have told me that Windows is better than Mac for this purpose.
I'm wondering if you have any recommendations regarding this matter.

Hi there have you made the purchase decision? Sorry for the late reply as UA-cam weirdly moves your comments elsewhere. But if the main focus to to do 3D animation, maybe a window system would be better and might be cost effective as well if you are building your own laptop. Personally, I would go for the Mac ecosystem and would be willing to. pay a bit more for the screen on the macbook pro, the battery, portability that comes with it and I would choose the chip that would support me with my power demand. And i think for your case, if you are going for a Mac System, a M3 Pro would be good, but if you want to add a bit more futureproofing maybe, go for the M3 Max as the difference between M2 Pro and M3 Pro wasn't that big

Which store sell 2.2k for the spec you said 16”, 32GPU, 64RAM and 4TB in Cambodia? I’m in Cambodia too and I ask some local stores here, they said no stock anymore. Could you tell me the store that has this M1Max in stock?

Hi there, i would suggest Beckie Deal, i bought from there multiple times, I saw a deal for M1 Max 16 inch for 2499$ a few months back and the 14 inch would probably be cheaper. Thanks for stopping by !

Just a quick comment, if you think that macs sucks, its ok, the thing people want to use apple is first ecosystem, the battery, unlike those windows computer with only a battery that can probably 1 hour for heavy work load and need something to go and long battery life while considerably giving a good performance. I know rtx is more powerful, but you gotta need to see what people need anf want, you use macs when you want it or need it, like if you need a to go computer that is not a size of a home, and wants a considerably fast processing speed, macs are good for you. And for people that thinks macs aren’t for rendering, its people’s choice, sometimes they don’t want to fill out their spaces with a huge computer and instead wants a more slim computer that is much more mobile than other computers. And please do not think that computers with rtx is the best on all things, think again before commenting, and just for reference, the gpu of the apple silicon can access probably 48 gigs of ram from the unified memory, meanwhile rtx(average) only can goes around 10-20 gigs, a big consideration if you want to put heavy workloads, and sometimes mac is better in AI model training because of its fast memory bandwidth and neural engine, and maybe rtx have a really high memory bandwidth, but it only have low ram, compared to macs where they can use most of the ram and not limited by the separated processing units in normal computer. Sorry if i said something wrong, but i hope i proof my point

Hi im using an M1 24" iMac with the 4.02 version, im doing some id say basic 3d modeling and It IS kinda crashing, are ther some settings i should kniw about? Should i get the new M3 iMac?

My suggestion is that if you want to do more complex 3D modelling task, it is important for the computer to have more GPU cores, so i would suggest investing in the Pro version of the M Series Chip. I am currently on a M1 Max and there are many M series chips that are either a Pro or a Max that are on a discount

M1 Mac is perfectly fine especially if you are a patient person…The render time is longer but who really cares

I have a costly Mac Studio that cost me almost €5000 with an M1 Ultra chip with 64 GB of memory, and after using it for almost 6 months in Blender I can tell you that I am very disappointed. In this case, I already found all the pieces to build my strong PC for rendering with an Nvidia 4090 video card and AMD Ryzen 9v7950x3D processor.
Also very important thing to remember that a lot of things you may possibly need someday in your 3D work learning or working professionally that software such iClone or Metahuman and a lot of things for advanced rigging (such an AccuRIG) are NOT supported for Apple computers.
I have been using the Apple ecosystem for almost 15 years now and will be continuing of course, but definitely not for 3D work!
For such a price of Mac computer, the speed of rendering is ridiculously slow! Even for still images, I don't even mention an animation rendering!

well, M1 series is definitely lacking in 3D compared to M3 series.
It should be said, the 3D performance of the M3 series have truly returned to "normal" levels. The Tflops with M1 Max and the real-world GPU performance are not quite proportional.

Macs and 3D? Forget it. Professionals used SGI, then came the area of GPU were Apple lost it when they ditched NVidia. Since then no sane professional uses a Mac for 3D. Its just a waste of money... . PS: 3D on laptops? Was never a thing, is not and won't be. Buy a real computer...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.Overall, i understand the point you are making. I think everyone is different in terms of what they need when it comes to buying a laptop or doing 3D work. In my personal experience, I know people who run agency and in their team there are people who do 3D render on their m2 pro and m2 max laptop. Granted, they do 3D rendering for holiday posters or product render and short 10 - 20 seconds animation for clients and not a full 3D scene or CGI works which for these types of tasks, a proper graphic card would definitely needed long terms. sot i do understand what you meant, it is just that everyone has a different use case when they want a laptop and for me, like i said in the video, it's more of a hobby in addition to my main work which is cinematography and photography and i also love the mac because from my experience, i have a more productive workflow using mac.
Overall, thank you for sharing your thoughts. for others reading the comment, you can share your thoughts below as well
