- Sam Darnold started the season out hot with the Carolina Panthers. Through the first 4 games, he led the league with 5 rushing TDs. He had many convinced that he was shaping into a franchise QB. Many analysts projected him to be a great QB coming out of USC and it was assumed that his tenure with the Jets hindered his growth. Would a fresh start lead him down a path of success? Or is he a bust?

Sam Darnold is a highly qualified backup quarterback with mild dual threat capabilities. I don’t know why people hate on him so much. I do understand why they think he’s not a franchise qb.The key word here is “backup.” If you accept him for what he is, he becomes a nice no.2 option at qb for most teams.
Man started the first 4 weeks like he was having a breakout year and then he just fell apart
Makes you wonder what happened.... it's like he lost all confidence. The raw talent is there. First four weeks proved that. Wonder if he was being over-coached. Messed with his head.
What happened was this : CMC GOT HURT and was out for the year.
Matt Rhule had NO GAMEPLAN without CMC involved in the offense. CMC was Sam's first read (always) which enabled him to peek and see if there was anyone else open (and usually with CMC on the field, teams have to focus more on him, so there was at least one open). Once CMC was gone, his teammates not getting any separation combined with an O-Line that played poorly led to much of his struggles.
Now that's not to say some of the passes he threw (over-threw or under-threw) weren't his doing 'cause they were but at that point he did lose confidence it seems.
Interesting how he came back the following year off of injury AFTER Matt Rhule was fired and replaced by Current Niners DC Steve Wilks, and went 4-2.
In fact, the last game against the Saints was his worst ever game (that he somehow won. lol) but here are his stats for the 5 games prior :
- 1,100 yards
- 8.8 yards/attempt
- 9 TDs (7 passing 2 rushing)
- 1 INT
- 105.4 passer rating
Coincidence that he turned it around after finally getting a Coach (NOT Adam Gase or Matt Rhule) who knows what the fuk he's doing out there? I think not.

He folds like laundry when ya touch him, he’s got water on the ankles, and he’s near sighted than a bit. Defense and good play calling is what it’s about.

As a Panthers fan I appreciated this video and here is my verdict. Sam definitely showed some flashes of what he can do in certain situations, however he is just simply not a quality starting caliber QB. The O-line surely hindered him in a lot of plays (literally everybody but TMO #72), however even when he had a decent amount of time he either let the pocket collapse on him, held on to the ball too long, stayed on one read, avoided check-downs, forced the ball into traffic, made a mental error, or just overall made a bad pass. I would not be opposed to Sam getting another chance behind a better O-line, OTA's, and being trained under Ben Macadoo, but there is no way he should be the undeniable starter throughout the whole season. The best options in my opinion is to either draft a OT/BPA at #6 and roll with Sam and draft a QB next year ,trade back and get a QB then let Sam play til either whoever is ready or Sam starts to suck again, or Draft Willis & bring back Cam meaning we would get rid of Sam entirely somehow.

As a jet fan.. my biggest gripe was he never went out there and even tried to look like he commanded an offense.
I agree with everything you said. Especially BPA. Personally I feel like the team was better with Cam & im definitely not biased in this situation. I know cam probably doesn’t wanna come back. But it would not hurt to have him and Darnold compete for starting qb. We have nothing to lose 🤷🏽♂️. I know Cam is past his prime and best but I feel like he could take us to the playoffs even if it’s a wildcard. With Sam idk. I feel like if we take BPA, we should try to bring cam back bc he’ll be cheap and for comp. Or any Qb for comp that could actually start. Not another Sam Darnold 😂.
It's crazy they gave Sam that 5th year option and he's making almost 19 million in the upcoming 2022 season.. Oh well.. One more year I guess
@@OCPARKWAY they really thought they were on to something with Sam but I’m scared with this upcoming draft. We really backed ourselves into a corner any way we look at it. Take a qb we prolly gotta stick with Rhule another season , take a lineman we gotta stick with Sam & bring in veteran comp (probably baker😪)

It’s so frustrating because you saw some amazing throws and absolute dimes then he goes on to throw 3 picks it’s like he’s a handy cap for what ever team he plays for

Burrow made the Super Bole with a terrible line. A good line won’t make Darnold a good QB or even decent. He is who he is. A backup.

That’s why is was pissed the hell off. Had me questioning my team loyalty and shit.
Darnold can make every throw in the book and has the arm talent and mobility to extend plays when the pocket breaks down. The problem is he panics and makes too many bad decisions. He wants to play hero ball but he is so bad when the play breaks down or even something as minuscule as his first read being covered. The guy has had every opportunity to correct his mistakes but has failed. When you see a guy like josh allen who was just as raw come so far in that aspect you have to kinda just accept this is who Darnold is. A guy with immense potential who can make throws and plays other qbs simply cant but fails at the most essential parts of being a franchise qb. I can see Darnold having a Fitzpatrick esque career. Stepping in for a game or two and providing a spark but unable to be consistent enough to ever be a full time starter
This guy was under pressure every snap the entire season.
To much hate on this kid, He just needs a competent coordinator and coaching; Every single QB the panthers started have looked like trash, it's not his fault and I hope he gets the start in 2022 with Mcadoo and company to prove it.
It won’t help. He is a bust. You Darnold fans need to come to grips with reality. He will never get better. No amount of coaching will make Mr Interception a good QB. He wasn’t that good in college either.

I spent all of last year thinking he was terrible. This really opened my eyes, he’s really not as bad as I thought, this dude is talented. Oline sucks and I think they ran the same 6-7 concepts all year. Linebackers jumping into concepts by week 6 is never great lol. Joe Brady sucks, get this guy some easy completions in the middle of field holy cow. And what is this boot pa lmao can’t run this Vs cover 4 & 6 no wonder Brady got fired haha

I’m really confused why people think he has bad arm strength. People say that a lot but his arm talent is one of the reasons he was drafted so high. Darnold has a really strong arm, he is just so inaccurate that it doesn’t matter.

For about 2 minutes I was like, "I shouldn't have said those things about Darnold. Maybe I was too harsh?". 8 minutes in, "No I wasn't. " The O line couldn't stop a couple of 90 year old grandmother's from getting inside though. So I'll give Sam that much.

Interesting to have the lowlights all together. Most of them are not hia fault or him trying to be a hero. Hes got elite traits but needs help from o line and receivers.

No way in hell you can play like him. He may not be starter worthy in the NFL, but he is really good just because he can get to the NFL

The Draft Scouts aren't accurate on most QB'S & they definitely missed it with this guy!
The draft is always a crapshoot it’s why I almost never pay attention to it. Darnold, Rosen, were both picked fo be great prospects. Nobody had faith in Allen or Herbert. Look at them now

Terry Bradshaw, that clown, bruh. But hey, ngl, Darnold was looking stellar those first 4 weeks. Even in that Dallas game. He had a couple of bad picks, but he was still slinging it. Then the oline started breaking down and so did Darnold. Like, no one is even thinking about what Darnold might look like with an upgraded oline, for one, and a healthy oline for 17-ish games. They had a different lineup on their oline for about 14 weeks last season. What if they're healthy for 14 weeks? What if CMC stays healthy? Lot of what ifs

majority of the “lowlights” were because of the pressure the Oline was getting 5:20 because of our crappy Oline darnold got tripped 😂 listen you can bad mouth the guy all y’all want but him and Matt have the same show 4/5 good oline so darnold has this year to prove he ain’t no backup but let’s see how he does with this oline this upcoming season.
How many games did he play last year? He is as overhyped as Carson Wentz
A lot of the lowlights werent lowlights but he makes too many bad decisions and processes defenses too slow to be a good QB

Cam wasnt given a fughting chance last season. Id rwther have cam n matt out there playing for this team. Matt corral cant improve anything next to sam. At least cam has experience to help mentor the guy. Sam could only train a loser.
