If your STIHL FS280 engine starts but does not accelerate, there could be several possible causes for this issue. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow:
      1. Check the fuel and fuel system: Ensure that there is enough fuel in the tank and that it is not stale or contaminated. Check the fuel filter and clean or replace it if necessary. Make sure the fuel lines are not clogged or blocked.
      2. Inspect the air filter: A dirty or clogged air filter can restrict airflow to the engine, causing acceleration problems. Remove the air filter and clean or replace it if necessary.
      3. Check the spark plug: A faulty or dirty spark plug can cause issues with engine acceleration. Remove the spark plug and inspect it for signs of wear, damage, or fouling. Clean or replace the spark plug as needed.
      4. Carburetor adjustment: The carburetor may require adjustment if the engine is not receiving the correct fuel-to-air mixture. However, it's important to note that carburetor adjustments should be performed by a qualified technician to ensure proper tuning and prevent damage to the engine.
      5. Check for mechanical issues: Inspect the throttle linkage and cable to ensure they are properly connected and functioning. Additionally, check for any signs of mechanical problems such as loose or damaged components.
If you've followed these steps and the issue persists, it is recommended to take your STIHL FS280 to an authorized service center or contact a professional technician who specializes in small engines. They will have the expertise and specialized tools to diagnose and resolve the problem effectively.
