Song: Marina & the Diamonds - "Oh No"
This drum fill came up through jamming along to a Marina and the Diamonds song. It starts with a 6 stroke roll then moves into some single strokes and a little fancy footwork. This works great for leading up to a musical pause, or you can extend it into a full 2 bar fill

This guy is the BEST drum teacher I have ever watched. I learned most of my drum fills from him. He also rocks that flat cap.

I am gonna be honest brother KJ... YOU TAUGHT me the PROPER way to play a 6 stroke roll... I learned it wrong from a fellow drummer 20 some years ago and I have been doing the accents wrong this ENTIRE Time... THANK YOU man... you have fixed a LONG standing problem I have had. with your video.... I am buying your kick package cause your fills are sick LOVE your videos. You go into Detail where most drum instructors ASSUME knowledge.. IT IS MOST appreciated!!
Thanx for this fill...started learning it about a month ago and now its like my go to fill...and that last KRL-KK-RL is now my go to outro on other fills....Thanx again from all the way out here in South Africa!!
Thanks for watching Nthato! Glad I could help.
This is the first 6 stroke roll with 7 strokes I've ever seen!
I agree. I have checked a lo-hot of drummers out, and this guy not only rocks, but teaches so well. Thanks brother. You are a credit.

That is one sick fill, I have made a promise to myself to learn this by the end of the week to impress all my friends lol. Thanks man, the six stroke roll is my all time favourite rudiment, and to see a cool amazing fill being created with it fills my head with inspiration. Can't wait to watch the next tutorial man, nice video and you deserve more subs.

Awesome teacher, greeting from Armenia!!! cool Drummer!!!
Perfect drummer 🤟
Oh my goodness! That is wicked cool! It came together very quickly. Great instruction! Thanks!👍
Awesome stuff KJ, I'm so glad I just stumbles upon you site/channel, whatever. So I subscribed right quick and I'll be watching and listening for more good stuff from you. You are a freakin sick drummer man, I love your fills, etc. Hope I can learn a few of them. I have been looking for some real good song ender fills. Fills that end the song so to speak. Whenever I say song ender, no one seems to know what I'm talking about, so I say, "you know, the big Los Vegas ending", Now I know you can't put that type of ending on every song, but I'd just like to learn maybe 3 or 4 real good song enders, so people will say, "hey man, did you see what he just did to end that song, man that was sick". God Bless my friend, stay loose and happy drumming.
Thanks Cal! I know what you mean about the "song enders"...AKA Head-Turners, AKA fills that get you that "Whoa, what was that?" reaction. Haha. Plenty more on the way so stay tuned. Thanks again for the kind words and support.
You have way to little subscribers for how good this channel is...
Haha. Thanks for adding to the list, Cameron!
4 beat fill starting on the 1. First three beats are 16th note triplets. Last beat is just a snare drum. First beat is Rll rrL. TOM snare snare snare snare SNARE. Second beat is Rlr lrl. SNARE hitom lowtom lowtom lowtom lowtom. Third beat is Krl kkr. Kick lowtom hh kick kick lowtom. Last beat is just a snare.
(last beat is also 16th note triplets)
when I don't see notes it's tricky to get it. Thanks man for clarifiation
Fills that will get you canned from the gig should be the title here..
KJ, you are amazing!!! I really loved your 6-roll demo near the 2 minute mark when you were 'noodling'!. Would love to see you do a video and teach what you did there when you were noodling - with the rim shots etc. AWESOME ! ! !
yay new fills!
just a quick note. Make sure to do your 6 stroke roll triplet based instead of 16th note based. For the longest time I did mine that way and it never sounded right until I changed it up
you make my dayyyyyyy!!!! awesomee teacher!!!

I 💯 am using this! KJ, are those PDP CX’s? Sneaky good sound! Well done!
Hey Kj great teacher and great fill.
btw
Interested to know I notice a flanger affect sound that your drums are giving off it sounds like your drums are not in phase?
This will be a great example for people who don't know what out of phase drums sound like.
Muy bien explicando gringo, te felicito!
You’re the best
This is amazing ty so much!
Happy to help Ewan. Thanks for the support
Чувак, ты супер! Очень нужные вещи даешь!!!
Thank you! Glad you liked it
Nice!!Thank you♡
pffff nice
Ya know. I took the time to learn this fill and while i got it down pat. It never sounds as good as you play it. You just have such solid dynamics I cant touch it. Who infuenced you to play?
Great job!! Even your blinking is in time:))
Hey KJ. Your lessons have really helped me progress over the past couple of weeks. Thanks and keep up the good work. I wanted to ask you about wrist pain. Have you ever had it ? And if you did what did you do ? I have minor tendonitis in both of my hands that holds my playing back. Ive went to the doctors and it helped alot, but it wont go away completley. Any tips ?
Hey bud. Sorry for the late reply. This is a problem a great number of drummers face. Have you tried targeted wrist stretches prior to playing?
easy! and cool :3
(have tutorials teaching how EQ your drum? thanks!)
Sorry that was rude of me, just that opening drives me bananas lol.
New sub, love the content.
Dude!! Love it... im gonna practice that... thanks... :-)
U are a really dope teacher bro but that's a reverse 7 stroke roll in the beginning of the fill
Great Lesson KJ! Can you provide your kit & head profile? They sound amazing!!! Thanks
Great video!! How about ending the complete fill with a left handed paradiddle so downbeat can happen with right hand? Will work on this when I next get in front of the kit Thanks for posting this!!
Hey awesome video! Just one question. Are those all 16th notes or are there 16th note tripplets involved as well? (Especially when going down the toms) cause for some reason i'm not able to land it on the 4. Thanks!
HI KjRias, ur lessons are amazing.i wounder if could help me to understand what the hell Danny Carey (tool) do in the last part of "the Grudge". tnx for the attention.
Axl
Great Lesson!the only thing that was hard for me to transpose it to play it fast, cause in the context of the song you played it in a triolic way.its a bit hard to understand that.maybe a middle speed example would have been helpful. But thanx anyway, its great stuff you play.
Thanks for your comment, H! I love learning new words. Admittedly, I've never heard the word "triolic" used until now. I think I get your meaning. Thanks for the feedback :)
hehe, sry.my english isn't that good,i mean, its not played on 4 notes,is 3 so in german its" triolisch".i don't know the word in english.many 6 stroke rolls are played combined with an right-left-left on the end to fit it in a 4/4 beat.the one you showed is in another way.thanks for the sessions, they are nice!
