    Replacing the power steering pressure hose or flex hose stopped all power steering fluid leaks. I believe the failing flex hose is what is causing excess pressure to build up inside the other hoses, causing them to leak. Watch this: ua-cam.com/video/PqmfK8-nqvc/v-deo.html

    This man deserve a place in heaven!
    Don't know if you are aware, but here at my local dealership there's a picture with your On the wall and a hefty reward for you, dead or alive...
    After replacing the timing tensioners (thanks entirely to you) sealed up the cam girdle, replaced thermostat, replaced (added gasket maker, couldn't find only the gasket itself, I didn't wanna pay $600 for the whole part) on the oil separator, carbon cleaning, and few other things... I also did the oil house filter gasket... Now, not even 20 000 later, the gasket failed... At least I was happy to see that the cam girdle gasket was fine... So, I remove it and was that pissed and only tried to fix it with gasket maker, 450° rated with cooper base... It does holds 99% but still not fixed for good.
    Just ordered the part, original one and waiting to replace it again...
    Now... I have a tiny bit around the power steering pump, and God is whiteness... If wasn't for your video, I would have never thought that clamp is the cause...
    Ironically, I have those type of clamps, I even have the proper crimping tool, but most likely won't fit in there and be able to crimp it... I'll probably use a same threaded clamp as you.
    The issue with those clamps is of the fitting is plastic and small, you have a great chance to break the fitting before prying out the clamp, it happened to me and bought a small grinder, it's fantastic!
    To cut those clamps I have a small rotary tool, called "Dremel" it's amazing! Cuts trough metal and is suitable for many applications.
    I will also add the engine oil cooler gasket on the list, I did it before, wasn't that bad, it doesn't leak badly, but I'll do it since I'm there...
    I was soooo disappointed those days that I even looked at a brand new car, I'm probably done with AudiS, with European cars in fact, if I ever leave the club, I'll buy an Asian one, or some American piece of crap. I know, comfort, ergonomics, driving experience, it's not even close to the A6, but I live in Canada and if those repairs don't fix them myself... It's a liver and a kidney at the shop, they are charging about $150 / h.
    For a better understanding, timing tensioners would have costed me around $1500 - $2000, I would say even with my own parts.
    One shop near me asked for front struts (air suspension, for a friend, mine is regular suspension) $1500 with no warranty!
    Anyway, I hope you doing great and your car is coming out good, yesterday I was driving behind a slow driver and I wanted to speed up a bit, cause just replaced valve cover gaskets and wanted to see in full throttle how it does... Anyway, I was behind that guy and cursing, he was doing the speed limit... Few minutes later, a deer out of nowhere... Jumped in front on my car, from the pasager side, I slammed the brakes, then landed in front on the oncoming car! I can't believe the deer wasn't even touched, it happened soooo fast, that my wife on the passenger seat didn't even seen the deer... I can't believe I avoided in the last moment, 1 second faster, it would have been on my bumper and hood...
    I hope you doing fine my friend and the new year finds you good and healthy!
    I still wanna see videos from you with the A6, but working on someone else's cars, you had enough troubles already!
    Happy new year my friend from the other side of the globe!

      Wow! I feel you. Thanks for the useful inputs. I am glad you were able to dodge the deer. That was close!!! I had less luck and hit a goat about a month ago. Broken bumper, grille, radiator, condenser and other stuff. I have fixed the damage recently. I understand the pain of having a complicated European car in a world where fixing it is super expensive and complex. I guess you can't have the best of both worlds. Happy new year to you!!!

    Hey I have the same exact car as you do, I just checked my power steering fluid and its clear yellow and not green like yours. What kind of fluid does my car have? Is it okay to mix green fluid with that yellow fluid? The cap says G 002 000 thanks for your time

    • @ThatAfricanGuy

      The fluid can turn yellow over time. You should be fine. I use either Pentosin CHF 11S or Pentosin CHF 202 or Audi G 004 000 1L DSP.

    Hello,
    I just both a 1999 Audi avant A6 1.8, I must fill up the power steering fluid everyday. I see that it has bubbles in the fluid container. I know it could be many things as the pump, rack, clamp etc. Where do you recommend to start?

      Hi. There must be a leak somewhere. Locate the leak and try to fix it. It is usually loose clamps or damaged hoses.

    Can I use your flushing method (from the c5 video) on my c6? And which one is the return line on this black resevoir?

    • @ThatAfricanGuy
      @ThatAfricanGuy  3 роки тому +1

      It has to be the same process. Just make sure the reservoir does not go empty which may stress and damage the power steering pump. I am not sure however which one is the return line to bleed because there are two of them. I haven't done this yet on the C6 myself. Note that access to the hoses on the C6 is not easy like on the C5 and the C6 comes originally with one time use hose clamps.

      The thinner line from the resivoir is the return. Uses hose camps and not pressed fittings.

      1L was sufficient. I suggest you watch this other video about the power steering system. I suspect this power steering pressure hose failure is the reason why leaks appear around other hoses: ua-cam.com/video/PqmfK8-nqvc/v-deo.html

      @@ThatAfricanGuy so you are saying that only that clamp fixing it, is not enough? Should I replace that flexible hose as well?

    • @ThatAfricanGuy
      @ThatAfricanGuy  2 роки тому

      @@RomanTrollanski These hoses kept leaking a little bit, but not as much as before. I have yet to clean around the hoses and monitor them to see whether they will leak again now that I have replaced the pressure hose. Just replace the clamps for now. I just wanted you to know the existence of the pressure hose. If mine failed, yours may also fail with time. The leak when it fails is massive!!!

    • @RomanTrollanski
      @RomanTrollanski 2 роки тому

      @@ThatAfricanGuy hi brother! Just replacing the clamp on that hose didn't entirely fixed.
      Now, I got a little deeper into it, you need to remove the power steering pump. Lots of work, you need to remove all the coolant hoses.
      Inside the pump it's similar to the vacuum pump, but a lot more complicated. There's a seal there, that one goes bad.
      If you planning on taking it apart, let me know, you must be very careful with the inside rollers, there's a tiny bearing, once you remove the pump cap, they are coming off, it's tricky to put them back, you need to clean the bearing of oil, and put grease so the rollers are staying in it's place. You will need a very narrow twizzer. Anyway, if you take it apart, let me know. I also took some pictures. I'll pass them on to you on the email if you want them

    • @ThatAfricanGuy
      @ThatAfricanGuy  2 роки тому

      @@RomanTrollanski So the leaking point IS your power steering pump? My power steering pump is definitely not leaking. It's the hoses only. You apparently did a lot of work!!! Kudos to you. I hope this will fix your leak.
