I love how Johnny jumps back when the robot Sparrow swivels around to stare right at him. He seemed a little freaked out by it... :-D That ride has always been one of my favorites. I love the changes they've made since the movie!

Seems pretty cool but what makes this ride great is the fact that, ever since I've ridden it as a kid, it was always a blast to the 60's stereotypes of pirates. To me that just made it seem so much more authentic. The new additions aren't much, but the ride is still great. The only time it gets rough is the beginning when you drop off the 'world's edge.'

I went to the grand re-opening of the ride this weekend, and as a die hard pirates fan, I have to say they did a spectacular job. the only changes were burning wreckage in the brigg, 3 jack sparrows (one replacing the pirates pushing up the chest at the end), the addition of music when the cannons are shot at you, the mentions of jack sparrow, and davy jones. we rode it 5 times...and I agree that walt would have done the same thing. they also smoothed out all the jerks in the animatronics.

I love this clip. I haven't been able 2 see the updated version of the ride in Disney World yet so it was pretty cool 2 watch. Plus i like johnny going up 2 captian Jack and playing with him. It was funny when he went 2 touch him, Jack turned around and it was like he was saying "don't touch me"LOL

Love this ride! When I went on it a few years back, something went wrong and the all boats got in like a traffic jam, lol, but we were right in the spot where this song was playing :)

I concur. my grandfather was the electrician foreman on POTC when it was being built and since he died, it bothers me a lot that they messed with it, especially since I never got to ride it when it was still 'classic'.
i have to admit, it was a tad sad, i went on it when when the movies were out and it was still unchanged, and i still really liked it. but it mad me realize that the movie was pretty heavily based off of things from this ride, and they kept it that way for all the movies, so it was kind of cool that they threw the characters in there too.
You can REALLY see the progress in animatronics and sculpting that's taken place since this ride was created in the Jack Sparrow animatronics. But to the credit of the original designers and crafters, the original animatronics are still nothing to scoff at. When I was a naive little kid riding this for the first time, I thought they were all real human actors. It certainly must be a peculiar thing to see yourself in animatronic form. Definitely a dip into the uncanny valley.
Comment to everyone lol.. is Pirates opened in 1967 WAY before the movies... and although the new additions are nice and it's great to see younger generations love the ride like I did as a kid.. the original storyline is the best! and if you look really closely at the movies you can see and hear parts from the original ride :)

I went on this yesterday for grad nite and I shouted HI JOHNNY DEPP!! It was awesome and breathtaking.
Johnny Depp poking at the animatronic Jack Sparrow is just priceless, especially the way he flinches each time his animatronic self glances at him.
