I had this code on my 03 Corolla. To replace the catalytic converter with OEM parts (is one continuous part with muffler) was quoted at $2,000 dollars. I then bought Catalytic converter online from Magnaflow and had it installed - total price was $1,000. I just got the code again and did a lot of research (this video included). 2014 Kia Optima had 300k miles, P0420 code meaning the catalytic converter or 02 sensor is dead, ran 1 bottle on an Italian tune.up(70 mph on an interstate highway, all gas no brakes) lights turned off on it’s own, obd reader confirmed issue was fixed, ran another bottle just for fun the next week, car now sounds like it will make it to 700k miles, most GDI engines needs to have this done every 11 months

I used the seafoam in the brake booster hose that connects to the front of the intake and also the hose that goes to the back of the intake and let the motors soak with SeaFoam for 24 hours works better if you have it soak longer and use of more 2 an 1/2 can’s. 🖖⛽️ surprising thing is I’ve seen the motor get more response from the stoplight also gas mileage gain 15-20 mpg

Unfortunately 4 me it didn't do anything on my TC. The check engine w the Catalityc code still on after 2 weeks of using this product. Looks like I'll be replacing the cat soon!
You should drive it at about 2,500-3,000 rpm for at least 20 minutes after refueling. Really you want to drive it a full 150 miles over 2,500 rpm with it in the tank. It drastically swells seals, so I would drive it all through in one day and refill to reduce any unnecessary fatigue on components

If your car loses oil, your cat is building up carbon hence it is clogging. Bad cat is a problem elsewhere. You fix the problem and clean the cat with that bottle and it'll solve the problem. Even if you buy new cat, it will get dirty again n will throw code n same problem will persist. To stop oil leak, change your pcv valve. Only cost $14 for the unit. Check your gas cap too. Faulty gas cap will throw a cel too. Also 87 gas at cheap gas station will not clean your injectors because it does not have additive. I know you pay more at the pump for Chevron but it has techron additives that will do your cat right. Shell has additive but only at 89 or higher grade. The 87 doesn't have is what I heard through the grapevine. If you turn off your cel n try to smog, they will know. Oh n there's a way to check if your cat is bad. Get a laser temperature reader. The cheapest one are for baking. You take the temp of the front, middle n end of your cat. Front is hot, middle is hotter n end is cooler temps. If your front is hottest then you have a clog. All that hot air getting pushed back up the other way n into your engine n if drive further, you will get an overheating. Cataclean may clear the blocking so the air can flow out the back of the cat. If you hear rattling sound from your cat then your honeycomb inside the cat is broken. If there's leaks in the cat, your air is leaking so your horsepower will be lost. If your muffler smells like rotten egg, yep time for a new cat. Important is to know if your cat is broken. Sometimes you replace cat for nothing n the problem comes back again. Need to fix problem first so the cat can breathe. If cat need replacement, so will the problem that causes the cat to die needs to be fix too. Lots of money involved but if you can save the cat, less money gone by fixing the problem Instead.
Well on my vehicle I'm definitely not replacing the CATs since it has over 200k on it and in Indiana they don't do smog checks. My vehicle is not losing any oil. Also there's no rattling currently in the cat. I'm currently trying the lacquer thinner trick we'll see if that does anything so far I've driven it around 700 miles since putting it in, we'll see if I can go a couple of thousand without the light coming back on.
@@baldmetalnerd if your state has no emission test then that cel is useless. A car can drive with that light on. Although continuous driving without fixing the problem can lead to other problems but still extended shelf life for your vehicle. Mine is 390k 011 Camry. With high mileage I guess you can say that the cat is on her last leg n failed emissions. Gifted car thus why those who knows only drives Toyota or Honda lol 390k on stock n driving 140miles round trip daily for wk. Driving like a race car driver cuz you know how them Cali driver's are. Never change the transmission oil either. Only motor oil every 7k n new filter n that's it. Eventually parts will die due to high mileage. Which one goes first? Cat then who knows what else. If there's no emission test here, I'll drive her for another 200k for an even 600k b4 junking her for $300.

@@lynnvlogs7742 yes it is called cataclean. Walmart depending on location may have them for $25 a bottle. I just passed my smog by doing the following. Get cataclean n instructions will be on the bottle. Basically have less gas then put in bottle n drive hard, I mean floor it on stop n go. Do this to push out them carbon deposits from the cat out. Then get two bottles of seafoam. Walmart has them too. Same drill. Less gas tank, two bottles in to clean your lower unit. If you want, Seafoam has a spray bottle where you open up your throttle body n spray the whole can into it. Lots of white smoke will come out. This will clean your upper unit. Put super unleaded gas n go get a smog. Oh, if your engine light is on, auto zone or O'Reilly has free odb reader for you to turn it off then drive 80 miles so the system will reset itself. Then do smog. Hopefully it will pass for you. If your check engine light is on then for sure you will fail smog. We do what we do to pass n duke it out for another 2 years b4 we have to smog again. I got lucky with mine. The other smog station does not check to see if BLK smoke comes out from my muffler or I would fail again. I told them b4 hand b4 they did the smog though. They agreed. I got lucky. Car now has 405,000 miles n still driving to wk 2 hours roughly each way with traffic. Imagine that. I'm car shopping now though just in case. I'm getting new tires by BLK Friday sale. This time I'll go with 60k miles threadwear only because I do not think she can last that long. Knock on wood.
Also, a check engine light not coming back on does not necessary indicate that a vehicle will pass emissions. I drove the suggested amount of miles, the check engine light didn't turn on, so I boldly went to get retested. It still didn't pass. This is ridiculous. It a 2013 Ford Taurus with replaced Catalytic converter.
it worked for me as I was googling as I saw quite few videos of cataclean and saw your video after i had done cataclean. Even I am not going to change cat converter, not worth it. It has only been a day but CEL is not on as yet. I was curious about one thing. My question is during the 880 miles, did you happen to fill the gas tank with 87 with 10% ethanol or the pure 87 or higher octane ones? I have a feeling that cheapest gas of 87 did for me. my car has 91 recommended (not required) but the less ones work with low gas mileage which also is the case with bad cat converter
Around here all gas is 10 percent ethanol you can't get pure gas anywhere it's quite annoying. Yeah I've been using 87 as that's all my vehicle requires I did try a second bottle but I tried the dura lube brand and that lasted 1650 miles before the light came back on. I'm currently on my 3rd bottle we'll see how long it lasts I know I'm up to either a few or several hundred miles on it I'm not exactly sure. But this stuff certainly seems to do "something" and I would definitely not call it snake oil.
@@keithvolner930 Light did come one. But I changed the O2 sensor that is nearest to the first cylinder that fires. For my car, it is sensor 1 bank 1 or on the passenger side upstream. This can be different for different cars so keep that in mind. But that took care of it for now. Cataclean did its job but O2 sensor can also give in rich fuel much might make the catalytic converter go bad is my logic. I am no mechanic but no CEL after I installed the O2 sensor and cleared it and it has been more than 200 miles now.
I got the same thing going on. Same mileage. 2008 Nissan Xterra. Even have the tire pressure fault also, which is not accurate. I got a P0430 code. I hope it passes.
Great video my friend appreciate that. I have a Lexus ES 350 I change both air fuel ratio sensor in my engine light still on with a PO 420 code. I tried Cataclean I had just a little bit of a quarter tank when I add it up drove 26 miles filler back up then drove about 50 miles in the engine light is still on. I have noticed in your video that you voluntary erase the code. I thought you had to wait until the engine light would go off by itself. Now I am tempted to erase the code. I am just waiting for the engine light to go off so I can smog the car in California. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated thank you
Check engine lights don't go away. What ever issue triggered it has to be fixed, check engine light reset, and then the light monitored to see if it returns, but it usually doesn't go away by itself. Usually you want to fix issue as best you can, reset light, see if light stays off.
Hello neighbor, I'm in San Diego California. I just left the Dodge dealership to price a cat converter. Because of the strict laws in California they require you get it from the dealer. I have a 2013 Dodge Avenger and the price they gave me to replace the cat was $3400 for just the part. Hell, I think it's cheaper to leave the state. One thing you can consider if you need a cat converter. Order a walker aftermarket. However, you will need to have it shipped to a different state and then have it shipped to yourself. Not sure how it would affect registration. But it seems like if you did... you still should be able to at least pass. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do. Good luck with your situation!
I bought this from Amazon for like 30$ I was skeptical at first so I gave it a try I drank it like a hour ago and I can feel the catalytic converter getting clean. It don't taste good but it'll do the trick.
@@deanjagger1190 They appear to do "something" because I tested just resetting the check engine light with my code reader vs using the cleaners and the light always stayed off longer after using the cleaner rather than just resetting the light. After you use the cataclean, use techron fuel system cleaner (black bottle) every oil change. Add the entire bottle of techron into a near empty fuel tank. Add 10-12 gallons of fuel on top of the techron. Drive in similar fashion per this video. 15-20 minute drive keeping the rpm's up around 2500 or higher during that time. If you aren't experiencing issues with the fuel/exhaust system, you can use the techron as a maintenance additive. I use techron intermittently even before the 3000 mile recommendation. I add in a 1/2 bottle to my fuel tank every other fill up. Also, cataclean can be harmful to the engine system. Do not use but only once for severe issues with these codes. Definatly NOT a maintenance product. Good luck.
I had the same results. Added a bottle of Cataclean to a 1/4 tank. Drove 50 miles nonstop, then filled the tank to 3/4. No more cat codes & I/M CAT monitor finally shows ready! BTW to clear the AIR monitor, start the car from a stone cold start, then let idle for four minutes and do not touch the throttle. If the secondary air system is working properly the monitor will show ready.
I tried cataclean on my car cause the check engine light came on with code P0430 no other codes but it didn’t work. I didn’t wanna take it to a mechanic because I know they’ll want to replace the Catalytic but some videos show it’s not always that. So idk 😭

I then bought Catalytic converter online from Magnaflow and had it installed - total price was $1,000.
I just got the code again and did a lot of research (this video included).
I will buy some Cataclean and hope it works
Your problem was using a magnaflow cat
I tried cataclean couple times but it didn’t work well till I replaced the thermostat then the engine light went away
What code was coming on?
I have a 2010 Ford Fusion and p4020 came up and it's exactly what you are saying on your video. I'll be buying some.. thanks

Great video! I will try this product.
I can't believe it but this cataclean works I followed the directions. My Lexus with 200,000 miles is running 🎉 better 😅. We shall see if it gets better.
It worked in my 2010 Buick Lacrosse been 2 months now no check engine light👍$24 a bottle well worth it.
Can I let the cataclean sit for a day before I drive it? . I had to leave my car at work cause I was working late but that morning I used cataclean.
Thank you for sharing information I have the same so I wait till I reach one quarter of a tank add the Cadillac cleaning and driving 15 miles I have a problem my gas gauge is not working so I have to keep track of my miles or else I run out of can I pour it when I have a half tank? Don't run out gas it happened many times. The needle from the gauge is not working. Thank you😮
It didn’t work for me damn same po420 code
I used this product and it actually caused my car to start and stop followed by a check engine light
It worked on my Camry with 331000 miles
Damn Dude! It looks like you got crazy rust issues!

Thanks for that information. I just replaced the coilpacks and sparkplugs and didn't want to have to spend a lot on a new "cat" for my G37
🖖Works 1998 F-150 125,745 Also used B-12 and Seafoam spray and soak for 24 hrs and seen bits of carbon flake fall below tail pipes and with condensation flowing out of tail pipes also . All I see from use all three is first one really cleans the catalytic converter. B-12 works great cleaning your injectors in your intake valves and exhaust valves.
What is B-12?
I've just bought some today for my 2004 Ford F-150, with 280,000 miles. The Truck is now in limp mode with warning ⚠️wrench 🔧 light turned on. Your video gives me hope. thanks for sharing

I’m going to try this on my 01 Oldsmobile. Everyone pray!🙏
Does Walmart, AutoZone, Napa carry cataclean?
Worked on my BMW 440i 2017 with catalytic error from AutoZone. Engine light is off
Just poured one in a 2017 Ford Fusion SE, light came back on😢 Going to pour another bottle as I’ve seen some guys have the second one do the job on some pretty dirty ones. I’ll update soon!
Update?

Unfortunately 4 me it didn't do anything on my TC. The check engine w the Catalityc code still on after 2 weeks of using this product. Looks like I'll be replacing the cat soon!
You should drive it at about 2,500-3,000 rpm for at least 20 minutes after refueling. Really you want to drive it a full 150 miles over 2,500 rpm with it in the tank. It drastically swells seals, so I would drive it all through in one day and refill to reduce any unnecessary fatigue on components
How many treatments of this did you use?
How about another update! Did the light eventually come back on?
It did it's in the description
It is DRIVE CYCLES that will retrigger the light. NOT miles driven.

Gifted car thus why those who knows only drives Toyota or Honda lol
390k on stock n driving 140miles round trip daily for wk.

Did you experience any smoke from the tailpipe when driving
Nope
Does this thing clean the catalytic converter that is clogged or just help to clear code?
So has it came back on after a year now or not?
His car disintegrated into dust on account of all the rust. POOF! A big ol pile of dusty rust.
Well I am lucky to live where they don't test for emissions best of luck to ya.
You hadn’t gone through a “drive cycle “ yet.
A friend said can use cheap transmission fluid...cleans out everything.
I'd read up on that before putting that in your gas tank lol.
it worked for me as I was googling as I saw quite few videos of cataclean and saw your video after i had done cataclean.
2 months later did the light come back on?
@@keithvolner930 Light did come one. But I changed the O2 sensor that is nearest to the first cylinder that fires. For my car, it is sensor 1 bank 1 or on the passenger side upstream. This can be different for different cars so keep that in mind. But that took care of it for now. Cataclean did its job but O2 sensor can also give in rich fuel much might make the catalytic converter go bad is my logic. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated thank you
Yeah I cleared the code myself and it didn't come back on until around 1000 miles or so. I would definitely clear it and see what happens.
Yea clear it, if the issue is still there the code would come back
Check engine lights don't go away.
What is a walker ?
My frontier is pulling the same code. Has the code come back since you ran cataclean through it?

Didn't do squat for my Corolla with the P0420 code with 190K miles. Nothing but a waste of time and money!
Code P0420 O2 Sensor Efficiency Below Threshold - Normally Factory set at 96% or Above Efficiency.
The Forward O2 Sensor #1 rapidly senses Fuel/Air mixture and sends the info to the CPU to adjust fuel injection with of signal .
The After or Downstream Catalytic O2 Sensor #2 Senses Efficiency of the Catalytic , generally the temperature should be steady with no bounce in signal and 100°F hotter than O2 #1 . Use of a Non-Fouler Like (Google Search) the $14 Dorman Part # 42109 on the Downstream O2 Sensor #2 insures a Steady Signal and No Check Engine Light .

Can we all agree how annoying and cringe it was watching him put the bottle in with the torn foil on the spout. Otherwise appreciate the video
Any problem if I use it for maintenance, maybe just one bottle a year? My car is working fine.
Good luck.
