How to replace the Traction Drive Friction Wheel on a Toro 521 Snowblower Model 38052. I take the snowblower apart, show how the friction drive works, and replace the friction wheel.

I have a later model Toro 521 with air filled tires. If it ever requires this repair I'm coming back to this video. So far just need to replace the drive belt.
What the drive belt number mine snapped
Great video! Is there a keyway on that shaft as well? It looks like you have a space for a small keyway part that goes on the shaft. I have a Toro 521 Model #38052. Is there a truck for installing the keyway? Thank you
Didn't know and now I think this is my issue. Thanks a lot ,good video.
thank you it was very helpful, hope my comes out as easily as yours! I like that you are actually using an
older machine that looks more like ours that we are trying to repair not something newer in a shop
Do you still own a Toro 521 Snowblower? Just curious.
the rod connected to the friction wheel whats the correct name for it????? my toro 1971-1973
Good job on both videos . I guess you have to adjust the drive linkage rod after replacing the drive disk . This is similar to my Snapper Rear Engine Rider drive system that I hade to replace the drive disk on too . Also , I just want to say I have had chains on my blower for years , and they really make a difference for traction .
Thanks for the info! My linkage was probably loose to begin with (and contributing to the issue), and I think the new traction wheel was big enough to tighten the linkage back to how it should be.
As for chains - I know what you mean. Ours had chains when we bought it but they eventually wore all the way through and I haven't replaced them yet. I wasn't sure how long this blower would last, but now that its fixed up (new belt, new drive wheel and new auger bearing) it runs WAY better than it used to so I may get some new chains again. Of course now that it works so much better we've only had one snowfall this whole winter (up in MN) that I've got to use it!
Matt Spencer Yes , I have to do both jobs you did , we ,in NJ , didn't have much snow this year , but we had a lot last year , and you heard about just north of us , that could come down here next year. Boston got 100 in. so far . My auger belt burnt some when I got a piece of ice stuck in side , and when I released the lever , the belt didn't release , so it started to burn . I had to turn it off , but the belt looks bad . My chains are on their last leg , but 25 years is isn't bad. New ones are a little over 100 dollars , # 62-7630 , I'll keep using the blower it as long as I can get parts , and be able to fix it . At 70 years old , it gets harder each year Haha . A new one might be soon if we get snow like Boston . I hear sun spots are at a 100 year low , which might be starting a new colder trend like we had back in the 50 and 60's . Well , thanks again for the videos .
Good job, thank you.
i have the same one, but mine , when i put it in reverse it will move very slow , is there a cable to adjust to make it move faster ,.forwards fine ,its only reverse is slow .
sadly no, the reverse is very slow on these toro models.
100% easier system than the 824!
Thought maybe you would clean the plate and grease the gears while you were in there. Otherwise a nice video.
My friction wheel doesnt just slide off like that. What gives?
probably rusted on. I'm surprised it came apart that easy. I probably would've used a fair amount of neverseize and grease on reassembly, but that could just be me, lol.
definitely do not clean the glaze off the flywheel(you may want to clean the glaze off the flywheel.)
to funny we can see and read the part # thinking he will tell us the price. nope he reads us the part # hhaha
send me a message please if any one knows the correct name part#
