I am so happy I found this. The music was incredible. And the guy in the Cubs hat reminded me of my late father. All around 5 stars, would totally recommend to a stranger on the internet!
This beast would probably fit in the bed of the 797F they make now. Great film, it really was more like a movie than a sales presentation. Cat should watch all their old films. They are better than the new ones. Shake Hands With Danger is the Citizen Kane of safety films.
Thanks, Periscope! A-PLUS! Cat makes a fine truck. And the way they're set up, if you can heard one, you can heard all the newer ones. Very little differences between. I really like the self shifting trannys. Thanks again!
I just mountain biked up that old test road and back down it, it’s a lot cooler than they showed in the ad. I just now started looking for a video of this to see what they tested up there, and this seems to be the only video I found
I can't imagine how hard it was to mount cameras under that machine I remember when I was a little kid in the late 90s we had a video camera that had a carryin case that was slightly bigger than a briefcase. And I imagine this was filmed before then!
How times have changed. Operator walks up in his shirt sleeves. Now you would have to have a damn Yellow vest and reflective pants...sigh. The 769 truck looks like a wheel barrow when you put them side by side!
Small by today's standards, but still neat. They could use a water wagon, but I suppose dust is easier to deal with than 6 inches of mud if they want to look at anything. Put an L&M radiator in and you'd have something.
for a look at the Cat 797 mining truck, look for the Ultimate Factories episode on Caterpillar. It's a nice review of how the machine gradually gets assembled at various locations.
My guess China....remember CAT Was not willing to pay their fair share in taxes. And decided that they were going to put their money offshore in the foreign bank so that they did not have to pay taxes on it. One of the many benefits of being a multi million dollar company. If you did that you would go to jail!
I would love to see a video like this of their 200 series excavators and elevated drive dozers. I can't stand the new equipment with the emissions and all the lousy electronics.
So much pride in engineering and precision machining
Hear that China!?

Thanks for the video Periscope!
I absolutely love the music in these 1980’s commercials!
The Mullets too! :-)
I would love to bring one of these to the next Cars ‘n Coffee.
Now I want one of these also with my 1960’s 944 video I just watched!
I'll take two for my self plus the 944 Awesome old equipment
I drive this particular model here in the mines of S. AZ slightly older than the one shown in the vid. also configured for water haul.
I love hearing 785 start up with the air starter
the 80's synth-music is gold! ... 04:10 i just say "JAWS" 04th of July scene
I’m happy other people appreciate the soundtrack as well. Peak early 80’s. They even added some beep boops when the computers were on screen

Such a satisfying video.
Good music
I used to cross the Caterpillar test site and drive up into the White Tank mountains to service a microwave site.
My grandpa used to have that job way back. Worked for the bureau of reclamation then went to work for the county.
There's a housing development sitting on top of most of the Cat proving grounds. The road up the mountain is still there though.
HighFlyer no joke that’s too Bad! Looked like in the 80’s that was out in nowhere land

Imagine the swat team showing up with one of these!
YES!!!

There ain't nothing like a caterpillar I wish that they can make a smaller size V12 to fit into a 1975-76 Peterbilt 359 with a set of twin turbos.
That would be one serious rig.
Someone did that swap in a peterbilt with a 3412
The only way this could've been improved is if it was narrated by William Conrad.
@Willam Hastings David Attenbough as the narator would be a nice change to the old shows like this.
Cat introduced the 785 in 1984 & the larger 789 followed in 1986

супер спасибо
Amazing video. Do we still make these vehicles, or has it been outsourced to China?
Caterpillar still makes mining trucks in the U.S. - in Decatur, Illinois.

When you want to like a periscope film but the BGM music tryna kill you
What date is this video?
Driver enters cab of truck, puts on seat belt, and can outright crush anything on the road, or off it, for that matter...
Did you see that big Cat shakin' her fanny?!

Very well made film (even though many clips were shown multiple times), and amazing music.
Fill er up, ... that'l be five thousand nine hundred eighty two dollars and thirty three cents please.
