Should You Apply to a New Grad Nurse Residency Program?

Hey ya'll!!! I decided to discuss if you should apply to a nurse residency program! I believe your first year as a nurse is crucial to establishing a good foundation!

Youngest granddaughter graduates ABSN course on Dec 18, 2020. She was just accepted at Houston Methodist mother/baby unit as her graduate residency. Her program will be a year. After one month, she was transferred into L&D - her dream job!

I did the new grad residency program. I actually enjoyed the program and the opportunity to have a preceptor or should say several preceptors.

Here's the problem. The starting rate is low. They want you to be available for any shift/day. They want a commitment. They're actually looking for cheap labor. Time for nurses to unionize.
