Thanks a ton. I've never been a 3D modeler by any stretch, but I'm just starting to make baby steps into this. I made a very simple edit to a car to remove some badging (to denote a lesser model). I managed to get it back into a .kn5 but discovered all the windows and lenses had turned into portals, showing straight through the car and not showing any of the interior. Following this tutorial it was easy to figure out that I needed to manually re-set "transparent=yes" for all the windows and lenses to fix it. Somehow those settings got flipped vs the original - maybe that setting gets lost when the .kn5 is unpacked, but whatever, now I understand things a little better.

most likely because you have an illegal character in the persistence file. Check object, material, and texture names for any illegal characters and remove them.

the problem is most likely a forbidden character in the persistence like different unicode characters that aren't normal. Go through the materials or objects and try to find which one is causing the issue and rename it.

the brightness of the sun can't be changed, you can change the time of day but I can't see why would would want to make the sun darker because it will just make your car appear different in game

Hey man! I've come across a couple of cars that have a little charm or air freshener hanging from the mirror that actually reacts to in game gforces and dangles around on the string, is there any chance you know how to do that?
@@capt_nugget Been playing around with it for a couple hours and i cant get it to anchor to the mirror, all it does is move the whole thing with the string as a solid piece around the car, do you have any experience using this extension?
@@capt_nugget By dummy do you refer to parenting all the pieces of the air freshener to an empty? If so that doesn't do it, it was my first idea but as I said all that happens is the whole thing moving freely with no pivot
Hi thanks for the video! I am using the v6 of the editor and am running into problem with not being able to select objects in a model using the right mouse button. The objects can be selected in the tree on the left hand side of the program but just couldn't right click them directly to select. If I export the car, the cars shows up properly in CM showrooms. Hi! I have a question about how to make trees, I tried to do it with Alpha test shader but the texture didn't cut off the gray area. Could you explain more about Alpha test shader?
I think trees would be a little better with alphablend and probably PerPixelNM. This depends on your texture of course but it would make it have softer edges on the leaves. AlphaTest is usually reserved for decals mainly, things that have hard edges.
Ok, now how I cast light from a material, let´s say I put new lights in a car. I did it but lights are not emmiting light in the showroom or in the game.

Hi, when open a fbx file form race track builder, the camera is under the track and I cant go above to set thing up. Any idea ? I had the same probleme view month ago and I don't remenber what I need to do.
After editing a car in blender, i opened the fbx in kseditor. I loaded the persistence, but the part (not even the one i edited) just doesn't show up, and is transparent. Changing values and properties of the material doesn't do anything, any idea why ?
Hi, thanks for the best tutorial out there. Can you help with the problem I'm having. So I try to swap wheels from civic to e30 and i did everything in 3DS max, I load the persistencies, first of civic, then of e30 and save kn5 from kseditor without any errors. However when I start loading the race with this car get 13 errors popping up one by one. one of them: "couldn't set texture dirt.dds for material Tyre_tread for slot txDirty" the rest are similar as in couldnt set texture for something. After I click OK for all of them the game does load, the car looks good and has wheels, so most of these errors are some unnoticable things. I tried fixing in kseditor but couldn't find materials with specified name. Please help, thanks
your problem probably stems from loading the second persistence, if you are just swapping wheels, it might be easier to just copy over the values manually if it is only a couple of new materials. Check for any red highlighted materials in the material browser in ksEditor to see if any textures are missing.
man i've been having this issue for a while and i can't find the solution anywhere. some cars have booleans that shouldn't be applied and instead rendered in game, and i'm pretty sure people use priorities to achieve that, i was wondering if you knew anything about priorities
I only know how to use them with glass, I wasn't aware you could do it with other meshes. That would actually be kind of helpful for some GTS models that do the same thing.

@@capt_nugget I was using the recommend verson of CSP .64 or sum, I didn't know people ran the untested version but in .64 it dose that best way to fix it in .64 is to rename every object and material so the csp dosnt try to adjust them

i have a 90mb fbx track and i import it to kseeditor and never ends loading, this is because its to large its a question

That involves sourcing a 3d model from somewhere online, an unpacked AC mod, or something you made yourself.

You can do this with KS editor or you could do a material replacement with CSP, both are equally valid.

Yes of course, if each mesh has a separate material, you can have a different texture for each one.

make sure you define them in lights.ini or via a CSP emissive

In the data folder in lods.ini, change the model to the name of the kn5 you just saved

Afraid not. No reason not to use a texture anyhow. You can use a very small and compressed single pixel image if that’s all you need.

ksEditor? That is the program the devs intended us to use. You can use CM showroom or 3dsimed but both of those options are just worse.
