I was disappointed to hear you weren't gonna be playing Curse. I always thought it was the best game in the series. Also, a character is first introduced in that game that will be in the new game.
Curse absolutely is one of the best Monkey Island games. I love it, over the second game. Personally of course I love the original looks that much more too, the pixel game of ye olde, from the first two special editions I only appreciate the voice overs, and the art style kinda rubs me the wrong way.
Just to say thanks so much for playing through this on the channel. This was mine, my brother and sister's game of choice back in the early nineties when we were growing up, and it was really rewarding to watch someone who had never played it, take it on for the first time. No hint mode back when the first game came out, so imagine how long the Monkey Island section would take when you have zero clues and are wandering back and forth all over the place looking for something you've missed!
This games original pixel art looks better than modern pixel art because back then it wasnt pixel art, it was the devs trying to cram as much detail as possible into the small amount of pixels they had. Modern pixel art people don't really get that and ends up lacking detail
Did chat not tell you? The cereal is where you get all the chemicals and the flag is the pressed skull? Also I just read the other comment in here, no Curse of Monkey Island?! It’s a great game, though maybe you heard it’s not made by the the guy who did the first two games and also the guy bringing the game back. He was a little upset because they didn’t use his ideas for the third game as it deviates from the first two with a sort of quick Deus Ex Machina moment at the beginning of the third one and does it’s own thing.
True. Of all the games now, though, Escape from Monkey Island is the one game that desperately needs an overhaul. It never looked good. Not back then, and not today. The controls sucked back then, and they suck today.
I kinda want to do the hard work to make the best versions of each game like Scarfulhu did for his reviews. So you get all the music special effects that the studio payed for but was such a un-notice feature no one did it after them back in the day. Its so great that people just recently got it working on emulators. Every char had their own version of the background music that would fade in seamless into the background tune.
The whole background music fading into other bits was called iMuse and it was developed by LucasArts or (lucasfilm games back then) just to seamlessly switch between different scene and character music :)
I mean ol' Herman did tell you he had a fort on the volcano, so it's not purely pixel hunting, but that one throwaway comment can very easily be overlooked. They should've at least worked it in more of his dialogue, and made the location itself a bit less invisible.
You obviously lost your patience on a few instances there. The compass and key were was pretty easy to get. And a few others that I don't remember. The fort that was not visible I totally get. Maybe even the part of giving the monkey bananas, though I was totally screaming "Give" not "use"!
Played original. No hints back then. Took lot of patiance, but i made it :). Prolly dont have that kind of patiance anymore. Nor players of today. That why we live in world of hints!
Dude you should totally play the Sam and Max adventure games. They're really funny. Monkey Island 1 turned out to not be that funny actually. I think the later ones are funnier. But Sam and Max has some pretty hard puzzles.
The newer version obviously looks way more detailed, but 'better' is quite subjective. Having played the original game 30 years ago, I still vastly prefer it. Especially Guybrush's hair.

@@marilyn-monroe crybaby.
Your so right. Curse is the best.

Yeah absolutely agree. The art style in the modernised version is just goofy looking.
fun fact: every time you escape from the hut with the banana picker the cannibals upgrade the locks
Some top voice actors! Very impressed for a special edition.
There's actually two ways to light the gun powder at the dam ;-)
Dang, he was five pixels short of finding the fort right away 😅
That's the "puzzle" that took me the longest, just pixel hunting that fort
And he played it on the new look, where the fort has more than one brown pixel.
Definitely do Curse dude!

I used to use the Ghost Ship Shuffle as my phone ringtone
I wish they would remake/remaster Curse of Monkey Island and Escape Monkey Island. Loved the 3rd but never got to play the 4th.
Escape was the weakest but I still enjoyed it.
@@bryanalexander7571 I've heard, but still would love to play it.
Escape was horrible with its transition to 3D and the Monkey Kombat. They also redesigned Guybrush to wear a posh suit that doesn't suit a pirate.
@@jled787 Still wanna play it, wanna give it a chance.

01:05:00 Whoops? THE understatement of that line...😮🤯
The shocked expression when he sunked the ship!
Serves those lazy mutinous bastards right.

What a fun game. I even forgot some of the solutions to a few puzzles so I was lost when you were a couple times. XD Well played!
Hahaha the Graduate reference at the wedding!
FAQ reminded me of a "Dirty Little Helper"

I mean, Odd should really be used to pixel-hunting from playing X-COM, looking for that one pixel that let's his grenade hit all 4 aliens.

you consistently picked the shortest least funny dialog options that avoided all the jokes and stuff. why?
What’s the deal with part 2 being up before part 1? Lol
I was reading FAQ as "Fackyou"
Can't you do theese without the chat? It is annoying when people give unwanted hints.
original isvbwtttrrr
This is UGLY as hell! How could they ruin it so much?! The pixelated original looks better that that. The 2009 remaster is light years ahead.
This is the 2009 remaster you goon.
