Did you play Capcom's action/strategy hybrid Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess? I think it was the most innovative game of 2024 and a real surprise, I played it for quite a bit. Doing a regular playthrough felt too unbalanced and easy, but doing a "no upgrades" playthrough made the game much more challenging and fun. Shame that it didn't win the "best strategy game" category.
@@MildConviction I highly recommend it! Some of the later levels become really challenging and cool, especially if you go for no upgrades at some point. I think the core mechanics are very strong and unique, but the balancing is off, and I wish the game had a very tightly tuned hard mode.
Onimusha: way of the sword is the only thing that got my attention honestly speaking. Mafia old country interests me as well. The rest is all just the typical games being announced too early. I'm glad skipped the event and watched the trailers.
Gonna have to disagree with metaphor winning best art direction. Outside of it's UI which i've kinda become numb to since it seems like atlus (and some other games but mostly atlus) just keep using and it's kinda lost that wow factor/doesn't fit the overall aesthetic of say p3r or metaphor, but my main take away is how smudgy and awful environments look and how lifeless the models of the cast look compared to their portraits. It has some good stuff sure but as a whole it got way more going against it for art direction.
I didnt the watch the whole thing. Watched some ppl streaming it and reacting to it. I don't really care about awards. I parse it as someone telling me what's good which is not my thing as I am old vidya man now. Later saw the Nightreign and Onimusha reveals and got kinda blown away at those. Not gonna comment on the new Naughty Dog or CDPR stuff although the people that I watch on yt turned these into content mine. I get all this. I also don't like people telling me vidya is dying. It's kinda teetering but there's good stuff to anticipate for the coming year.

I did play it for a bit (got distracted by other games), but it is very interesting and I intend to return to it. I enjoy tower defense games a lot.
