Things that they can’t train you for at Rucker. When the stress goes up, you start botching commas and it gets confusing to other elements trying to walk-on your talk-on.
At 10:24. That was the op topside the apache shot at. The bodies laying around. That I believe was the op. The place where the guys where in the fight for there lives. Tnat guy pointing around I believe was the op. Not blaming a sole. I've been there I know how it is. Sucks looking it this way.
I think the Pilot had the gun slaved to his sight. The OP was taking frags so the enemy was within 50 meters from the OP. The TADS and the gun can point at 2 different locations at the same time. Having the gun slaved the helmet would alow the Pilot or the CPG to look and shoot with out having to use the TADS to point the gun.
There used to be a buzzing sound instead of an altitude low voice, whenever we were low enough to see their tattoos. You carried on piloting one of the best and most efficient, sorts of transportation known in the military during actul combat. The improvements from the 80s is unbelievable, especially the fire power. Thanks for sharing your content, and congratulations on making back to the states from such a shitshow of a situation.
I didn't see any explosions from the 30mm gun runs, was that edited out because of You Tube policy? A quick thought in my head came quickly and that is can't something like an M-79 or any 40mm grenade launcher be used to deploy say a red smoke on top of an enemy location to mark the area as enemy instead of always trying to mark friendly locations only? Those AH-64 guy's had a tough as hell of a job flying around the canyon and getting lined up for an effective run-in for guns or rockets and not hitting friendlies. Tense and frustrating moments considering they are both trying to save the troops on the ground and suppress the enemy enough to get the medivac in to evacuate the wounded. Having to worry about ground fire and all the other shit involved in this is just nail biting. God bless them for their efforts. The choice of ground to defend and position of all the Main Base LZ, KOP'S & OP'S was just piss poor. Doesn't West Point teach Officer's these days to always take the high ground? I am ex-USN and I can see the problems here.
What a horrible location to put guys in & seems like they did it several times. I never served but a lot of my male relatives have including both gdads in ww2 & dad in vietnam but I'd never expect anyone with any kinda sense to put guys in the lowest area. I would have been feeling real set up being told to go there😡
Idk how you guys have the self to control to know what’s happening on the ground and not level everything on the ground in a 1 mile radius around the OP literally if it move it’s over including there goats

Last since they were in a 💩 hole did they have artillery cover?

How did so many of them hide from the thermals? I've seen estimates ranging from 100 to 300 AAF & there's not a single one visible, pass after pass. From the captured films it looks like they we're lined up right along that ridge the apaches swept multiple times. What was going on?
I was just looking at the commemorative badge my great great uncle received fighting in Afghanistan from 1879! We never learn.
We never learn the state are liars. But then there’s always someone stupid, naive, desperate or malicious enough to put on a uniform and take orders from the government.
Did no one have any PEQ15's or 4's on their M4's in the valley to help point out these targets???
They did not. Chosen had nothing and no support. Complete leadership failure at the highest degree.
Not taking any responsibility makes it even worse…
@@BattleofWanat It was also daylight, the IR lazars won't be picked up by the thermals of the TADS. At night you can see them in night vision devices, so even if they had had them they would not of been any good.
Those only work at night
@@guyrandom1 LOL! You must have never been trained on them.
@@briansmith2125 yea what do I know I’m only a pilot. 😂😂
I watched the video made by the other side back in 2009. Crazy how they simply did what they did.
How can he see anything moving camera as he is?
The camera is tracking what he sees. This is a recording of what his helmet is looking at.
Thank you to all those that took part in the efforts of this battle, you all are not forgotten to the civilians like myself that pay attention to the things we ask those who serve to do on behalf of our great country. "God Dammit" is 💯 at the end.
The altitude low warning will drive me nuts ! You have no way to cancel that or set it for a lower altitude?
Yes that can be set by the pilot
You can set the low bug, but it's still nice to have warning. Some units also use a hard deck.
Sorry, but this was the most frustrating video I've seen. How many times can you fly around, look right at the area they told you they were getting fire from, and just go right on by and not fire a shot? They should have went home with zero ammo left.
More birds were together during this fight. Keep in mind the situation was extremely kinetic and hot under fire not only down below but above as well. More tapes are soon to be released and you’ll understand much more. Stay tuned..
Thank you for watching
I don't know if you understand what 50m and danger close means. Just saying they were all scattered and overwhelmed.
The ground unit did not mark themselves. The pilots have to discover who is who on their own. Should they have killed everyone?
That’s crazy those in the canopy looked friendly
Pedro was the call sign of the AF medevac unit that was in the documentary series .
Hedgerow. I perked up when i heard it too but the apaches were Hedgerow I'm pretty sure
Why aren’t they marking their target ?
What happened to Lat & Long cords. How did we win this with bad communicaton.
We didn't win.
Is this gunship footage of the aftermath i hear shooting but i dont see any impact from the shooting?
@@MrVideoyoulike no it’s early in the battle. Several more Apache videos are to come in the upcoming episode “Archangels”. They are much clearer and show much more detail in their attacks etc at Wanat.

I love when they say "next to the bush" it's not like that entire country is filled with little bushes...
I watched the documentary the enemy took a lot of our guys that day they ambushed the base from up on the mountain sides. Hundreds of Fighters with RPGs and machine guns. I wish those birds would have come in a little more vengeful and hot especially while they had them in sight. Probably just my emotions speaking but man that was terribly sad.😢 ❤to the USA soldiers families
Thank you sir
I wanna know where the call sign Hedgerow came from. I can only imagine that's a tail rotor in the weeds in training.
Townsend is a pre revolutionary war family name.
Crazy.
;)
A lot of names are...lol what's your point?
At 6:20 that taliban SOB was right outside maybe 10m from the only soldier left alive to hold the OP
1 hour of watching and still couldn’t make out what I was looking at.
That terrain is nasty.
I was Farah province. The landscapes look completely different
80 meters. This means gunships or an A-10. Doubt an F-35 or even the trusted F-16 can do much that close.

Soo do they not just hover so they cant be shot at? Didnt realize they have to do gun runs like a plane would
Hover in one spot to be a stationary target sitting duck?
@@trashpanda314 not necessarly but hover then move. Idk just never realized they have to fly through full speed like a plane
Things that they can’t train you for at Rucker. When the stress goes up, you start botching commas and it gets confusing to other elements trying to walk-on your talk-on.
Some of the most frustrating video I’ve seen.
At 10:24. That was the op topside the apache shot at. The bodies laying around. That I believe was the op. The place where the guys where in the fight for there lives. Tnat guy pointing around I believe was the op. Not blaming a sole. I've been there I know how it is. Sucks looking it this way.
I wonder if some of the survivors are waving with their arms at the Apache?
I think the Pilot had the gun slaved to his sight. The OP was taking frags so the enemy was within 50 meters from the OP. The TADS and the gun can point at 2 different locations at the same time. Having the gun slaved the helmet would alow the Pilot or the CPG to look and shoot with out having to use the TADS to point the gun.
@@SpcPoole TADS LOS would be more steady and accurate.
@25:02 "were gonna die"?
Yeah I heard that too. Must have been chosen guys on the ground.
I think he said “he’s gonna die”
'Altitude low'
If Apache's are a 2 man crew, where does Bitchin Betty sit? 😏
In your lap ❤😂
Seems to me that the pilots had no clue what the situation was. How friggin long it took just to know where NOT to shoot. Holy shit!!
6:33 is crazy
