Using WinISD to Model Sundown Subwoofers Comparing Effects of Enclosure Size & Power

- Just playing around modeling up some Sundown zv3 18" dual 1 ohm Subwoofers using WinISD, comparing recommended factory enclosure power and tuning, vs larger enclosure more power and different tuning.
I design enclosures and build as well. Been using Torres or CT sounds box calculator on phone ( damn close to Chris Torres' calculator) but I don't have any way to model. I need to learn this. Does it work for slot port enclosures? In your experience can a slot port be as loud as a round vent like those "big ass ports"? Would term pro software be better you think?
Slot ports have better bandwidth and are just as loud as aero ports if built properly , plus they brace your box.
Does it work for slot port enclosures? Yes, you can set the length and width of the port or you can select round port and enter the diameter and length. Do I feel that a slot port can be as loud as an "aeroport" type of round flared port like big ass ports, sure I don't see why not as long as their is adequate port area, as port area is more important than the shape of the port. The reason people argue over round ports is there is less surface area and therefore less resistance ie more efficient, however if there is enough area it will make up for the lack of efficiency. I hope that explanation makes sense. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@E4EonEbay yeah with aero ports you can get away with less port area to get the same sound, downside is it doesnt work for big walls hence why the loudest people on the planet run slot ports , much easier to fit. If you build 2 proper boxes side by side and one uses slots and the other aero guaranteed you wont hear the difference in sound, I've personally noticed Aeros lack bandwidth even when built properly they fall off above and below tuning easily
I have a stupid question.. the length on the 12" ports you said I s 40... is that a total length like each port would be 20"s or is that 40" each port??
Does changing port area change the ventvelocity? I can't get it to change
On my copy of WinISD changing the port area, length, tuning etc... effects port velocity, I just confirmed this before commenting. Thanks for watching!
I think your Xmax cone excursion is off. You’re stating that 1500 watts is only moving your sub halfway.
Be careful depending on WinISD for concrete data. It’s just a model of the real world performance. Once you actually build the enclosure, you’ll realize there’s stuff that varies from the modeling predictions.
A red flag is when you think you know more than the folks that actually manufacture the speakers.
