    The terms "Dwarf Reticulated Python" and "Super Dwarf Reticulated Python" are used to describe Reticulated pythons of the subspecies Satuprai and Jampeanus, along with half-blood crosses of these subspecies into mainland reticulated pythons to refine the amazing array of genetic morphs within that species, and reduce their size to something generally more suited to a life with humans. Unfortunately, these terms are often used to mislead uneducated buyers into purchasing snakes with insufficient Dwarf and SD influence (lower than 50% Dwarf/SD Blood), or by completely misrepresenting larger growing Retics altogether!
    Pure locality Dwarf and Super Dwarf Retics from the Selayer, Jampea, Kayuadi, Tombolongan, Kalatoa, Madu, and Karompa islands of Indonesia form a group represented by two unique subspecies of Reticulated python that have actually adapted to live in harsh environments with their diminutive size- packing all the intelligence, confidence, and incredibly beautiful color and pattern of the world's longest snake into a tiny little package, some being even as small as corn snakes! Unfortunately, they are still quite rare in captivity, and difficult to find except through dedicated breeders.
    At Reach Out Reptiles we dedicate ourselves completely to Dwarf and Super Dwarf Reticulated pythons like no one else in the world! We want everyone to be able to learn about this little known and under-appreciated, misunderstood, and highly misrepresented group of animals in a simple, straightforward way. Stay awhile, and connect with us, and with the WILD in you that really makes you HUMAN!

    Garrett, I really appreciate how you're so open minded about how different people use different methods to care for their animals.
    It's very refreshing.
    Thanks for the tour bud.

    This just proves that it doesn't matter what species the animal is, you get out of them what you put in.

    What I think is awesome about Blake is he tries his best to think outside the box, and most importantly think like a snake! You can tell he puts a lot of time and care into his animals! He’s not just doing what everyone else does because people in the industry or the internet so!! Very impressed!!!

    If you want to make a ladder/shelf in your cage they make all sizes of wooden ladders for parrots. I've used them in the past for snakes and monitor lizards.

    You invited it, so here it is:
    Cohabitation is fine as long as everyone involved is happy and healthy. If any animal is stressed out or injured, the caretaker must change the care. But if not, why fix what's not broken?

    I have hopes to start on a similar project this year out at my place with either a 20ft or 40ft shipping container that will be insulated along with an outdoor cage that the snakes can come in and out as they please. I'd like to set it up so that they are outdoors 24-7 and can go into the container at will.

      I read an old article by Dave barker. He did this when he moved to Texas. Didn't work out well. The snakes kept going out into the cold and trying to die. Turns out tropical snakes don't understand cold, and don't realize it will kill them. The only snakes that get it were Argentine boas, a naturally cold-climate species.

      I hope you did it! I always wonder as I've heard for younger/juvenile animals it can contribute to defensiveness to have them outdoors, though maybe doing a 50% outdoor setup it'd be ok. I know Kevin Mcurley has mentioned it regarding monitors, and I'd assume snakes are similar til they are a bit bigger? Still, cool idea regardless especially a shipping container lol

    I would love to see a full tour of the snake jungle gym! Absolutely love that idea! Great to see such care given to these awesome animals. As for cohabitation, well, it's all good until it's not. Zoo settings often cohab without problems so I'd say it's up to the individual keeper if they want to take the risk. Worst case scenario, one tries to eat the other and they both die. As I understand it this doesn't usually happen with older animals, but I've seen it with corn snakes, ball pythons, and boas when young. I think what may happen is after feeding, the snake smells the food on the other snake, but I'm sure there are other factors. It's not worth the risk to me (except with species that are known to be social), but you do you!

    When I read the title: "why would I want to see your sponsor?"
    1min into the video: great freakin video mate! :D
    He is also taking it to the next level not just the retic room, but that filosophy "walking" the snake outside, I kind of do it as well with my BPs.

    That big room is fantastic! I would put masses of branches in there, plus a big water pool, which they might like to swim in; also, this would help keep the humidity up. This guy’s snakes are amazing! However, I really think that those carpets should be in a tall enclosure with branches. Mine only stay on the ground when in their hides, and spend most of their time up in the branches - they are semi arboreal.

    I Cohab my young ball pythons ., and I put my bps I use for my education programs together all the time .. so they are used to each other and they seem to like the company .. now they all have their own homes.. but I take them out side together .. let them crawl around together when I’m cleaning cages .. so I think it works .. and my snakes seem to like it ., and when they are not in breeding rotation .. I keep them in bio tanks .. that way when they are possibly regimes as pets one day they are used to a pet bio set up

    I have totally thought about setting up a tent inside my house with some climbing opportunity for my snakes! I love seeing that he had this idea to get his snakes out, even if it was for a bit different reason. I know a gal in Colorado that's currently doing research on cohabing carpet pythons and finding that they are a species that can work being housed together if given enough space and food. Love hearing the talk on how to further enrich our snakes enclosures and interactions.

    I got two carpet pythons last year that were very small. One would escape through a tiny gap in the rack frequently and I found him in with his sibling in the next bin every time... So, they got to live together for 4 months in the same bin while they got big enough that he couldn't fit through the gap, lol.

Everyone acts like I'm a total weirdo I give them toddler toys they seriously play with them! My champagne fire yb paradox male loves toys with lights and singing! And they are only bps I only have 5 but I make them playgrounds with my sons toys they love it they crawl around play and nap! So cool to see other people doing this! I was seriously just looking at a dog playpen off Amazon too Unfortunately I only have an apartment but its my dream to have a house and room for my snakes right now we only have small spaces for all of us. Congratulations your blessed living the dream! Such cute babys as well!

    l cohabitated my male and female for the first 3 and a half years, then they bred, had only 10 eggs laid but after that l noticed a change in the behavior of my male and he would never move from the cold end, was always hiding under a piece of bark, so l put a divider in a 6ft enclosure and kept them like that until they each needed bigger enclosure. So l dont have an issue and l think it is great to do this especially if you are wanting to breed as they do become very familiar with one another but you must be able to read your snakes and know them well to do this.
    l have my room all set up with climbing space on the ceiling for my snakes and they love it and they would spend all day out and my bigger snakes do, l have to put them to bed when l go to bed and sometimes that is midnight. l have one girl that comes out at 6 in the morning and thats it her whole day is out in the climbing area, where she has branches and hammocks to sleep on.

    That’s exactly what I would do with it except I’d have a swimming pool for them and more trees, or fake trees. Basically though, this is what our house is like with 74 snakes and we don’t is racks. All have enriched enclosures and then they get out and roam around our house.

    You don’t se it as stressful and dangerous to move the snake to feed? I used to do that with Ball pythons. I learned real quick not to ever move retics to feed. My first one was extremely defensive and wanted to eat everything in sight after eating... me included lol i wouldn’t ever recommend anyone to do that with a retic. They just stay in food mode for to long and it lasts so long after eating I just see it as dangerous for the Owner... especially when they are bigger. To each his own but I think it’s a bad idea to recommend moving to feed a retic! 😮

    • @whitneybuxton6162
      @whitneybuxton6162 4 роки тому +1

      He moves his retics to feed yet never mentioned a bad reaction. I move my retics to feed and also don't get the bad reaction. Ball pythons are a whole different snake (go figure) and more stressy typically so those reactions aren't surprising. A tap/hook trained snake just needs to be tapped and they know it's not feeding time, regardless if they ate last week or a minute agon

    • @ReachOutReptiles
      @ReachOutReptiles  4 роки тому +1

      We never “recommended” anyone on how to feed their animals. This is just how Blake does it :) it works for him.

    • @blakestewart891
      @blakestewart891 4 роки тому +2

      I don't see it as stressful or dangerous in any way whatsoever. They never eat in their enclosures so whenever I open their cages they are always calm and never in food mode, so I can easily and confidently reach in and just grab them. They only go into food mode when I put them into the container they are used to always eating in, the container is the only thing that triggers their food response. When they are done eating I put them right back into their cage because it's not good to handle them right after eating anyway, you should let them digest the meal for at least a day or two. I find this works great and keeps the animals very friendly.
